Process for the preparation of a gray high-quality dye of the thionaphthene-indole-indigo series. The present patent relates to a process for the preparation of a gray vat dye of the thionaphthene indole indigo series, characterized in that 6-chloro-oxythionaphthene is mixed with a reactive α-derivative (for example α-arylidene or α-chloride) of 5-bromoisatin condensed.
The new dye is violet in color, dissolves deep green in concentrated sulfuric acid and, with caustic soda and hydrosulfite, gives it a light yellow color from which vegetable and animal fibers are colored gray. The dyeings on both fibers are particularly notable for their good weather and lightfastness.
The corresponding dye, which contains chlorine instead of bromine in the 5-position of the indole residue, which is obtained by condensation of 6-chloro-oxythionaphthene and the a-derivatives of 5-chloroisatin, however, dyes cotton in violet tones, which itself Do not turn gray if you use strong soaps for hours.
Such a fundamental difference between chlorine- and bromine-substituted dyes of this dye class has not yet been established.
Compared to the dye of D. R .. P. No. 2'32069, which is formed by lonobromination of the condensation product of 3-oxythionaphthene and α-isatin anilide, the present dye is distinguished by better weather and lightfastness. The dye can be fixed particularly well in cotton printing and gives prints that are light- and weather-proof: it can therefore be used to advantage in 1-curtain printing, for which, as is well known, very high demands are made on light and weather fastness.
In terms of suitability, it surpasses the previous gray vat dyes on the market, since these genuine, gray vat dyes of the anthraquinone series are known to be less easy to fix in print.
<I> Example 1: </I> 57.5 kg of 5-bromoisatin: and 58.5 kg of phosphorus pentachloride are heated to 100 with 600 kg of chlorobenzene for two and a half hours while stirring to completely dissolve them. A solution of 49 kg of 6-chlorooxythionaphthene in 600 kg of chlorobenzene is pressed into this solution at a temperature of about 80 to 100. After brief stirring, the dye precipitates in purple crystals. It is advisable to stir for a further two hours at 80 and the dye is filtered on a pressure filter, washed with chlorobenzene and dried.
<I> Example 2: </I> "37 kg 6-chloro-oxythionaphthene, 76 kg 5-bromo-isatin-p-bromanilide are stirred in 300 kg nitrobenzene for about five hours to about <B> 150 '</ B > heated, then cooled to <B> 30 '</B> and the precipitated dye isolated by suction filtration.
It is identical to the product obtained in Example 1.
