Au dessin annexé montrant, à titre d'exemple, une forme d'exécution du cha riot: La fig. 1 est une coupe axiale à travers la section extrême gauelie du ,cylindre; La fig. 2 est une coupe longitudinale de la section extrême droite du cylindre; La fig. 3 est une vue frontale du chariot; La fig. 4 est une vue perspective d'un sa bot de blocage faisant partie de la construc tion; La iig. b est une vue perspective d'un au tre organe;
Carriage (The bookkeeping machine or typewriter. The present invention relates to a bookkeeping machine or typewriter cart which includes three aligned cylinder sections and a ratchet mechanism. interlinear spacing to directly rotate the midsection.
The carriage according to the invention is characterized in that it comprises means making it possible to connect the middle section to one of the end sections without relative axial displacement of these sections, so that these upper sections can turn integrally.
In the appended drawing showing, by way of example, an embodiment of the cart: FIG. 1 is an axial section through the warped end section of the cylinder; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the extreme right section of the cylinder; Fig. 3 is a front view of the carriage; Fig. 4 is a perspective view of its blocking bot forming part of the construction; The iig. b is a perspective view of another organ;
Fig, 6 is a section of the extreme left part of the cylinder; Fig. 7 is a section taken along line 7-7 of FIG. 3; Fig. 8. Is a view of a ratchet mechanism; Fig. 9 is a view of a detail.
The present embodiment comprises a cylinder formed by three sections A. B. C aligned. It can be assumed that section A should be used for the tally web, section B for the sheet of accounts and section C for the statement of accounts, although this particular provision of the different working parts is not not important.
Section A presents a 1-tubular tree which is it. fixed. This shaft is supported in a support sleeve 2, the latter being fixed to the end plate 3 of the carriage. The means for rotating the section A of the cylinder by hand comprise a hand wheel 4 (cylinder button) rigidly fixed to the tubular shaft 1.
Section B is fixed to a shaft 5, the straight part of which is supported, & so as to be able to turn, in the tubular shaft 1. The means for turning section B by hand comprise a hand wheel 6 rigidly fixed to the right end of the shaft 5.
Section C of the cylinder is supported so that it can rotate as follows: the right end of this section C has a bearing 7 (fig. 1) which is supported so that it can rotate on the left side of the cylinder. The shaft 5. The left end of this section C has a support sleeve 8 attached to it and which is mounted on a tubular shaft 9, the sleeve being attached to the shaft 9 by means of cap screws 10. L The shaft 9 is rotatably supported in a sleeve 11, which is fixed to the left end plate 12 of the carriage. The left end of the shaft 5 is of reduced diameter and is supported so that it can rotate in the inner end of the sleeve 8.
The means for turning the section C by hand include a wheel. hand 13 having a bush 14 which is fixed to the tubular shaft 9 by means of the screws 15.
The means for giving the line spacing movement to the part A of the cylinder, during the operation of the machine (,, include a ratchet wheel 16 (fir. 2 and 3) which is fixed to the tubular shaft 1 A pawl 17 for actuating the wheel 16 is at the lower end of an arm 18, the upper end of this arm being pivoted to the carriage at 19.
A tension spring 20 disposed between the pawl 17 and the arm 1.8 normally maintains the pawl in engagement with the ratchet wheel 16. 21 is a cam fixed to the end plate 3 with which a cleat 22 of the pawl 17 cooperates when this. last finishes its race forward in order to release the pawl. The arm 18 is arranged so as to be tilted forward during the return stroke of the main operating lever (not shown) using the means usually employed in machines of this type or key n ' im wearing what favorite way.
The only part of these means, shown here, is a rod 23, the right end of which is fixed to the lower end of the arm 18.
[A known type of stopping device, for example a spring arm carrying a roller engaging the teeth of a ratchet wheel, is preferably provided to keep part A of the cylinder against any accidental rotation and to complete the line spacing movement started by pawl 17. For clarity of the drawing, this device has been omitted.
The means for imparting line spacing movement to part C during machine operation are similar to those described for part A and include a ratchet wheel 24 resiliently attached to the shaft. 9 tubular and arranged so as to be gripped by a pawl 25 pivoted on the lower end of an arm 26, which is similar to the arm 18 and is mounted so as to be able to oscillate around 19. The lower end of the arm. arm 26 is fixed to the transverse rod 23, so that the arms 18 and 26 oscillate together.
Means are preferably provided for imparting a rapid rotational movement to sections B and C of the cylinder, for rapidly bringing the tally sheet and the tally sheet into the approximate printing position and for rapidly removing these sheets from the press. of the machine. This device can be of any preferred construction, the only part shown here of this device, being a pinion 27 rigidly attached to the straight part of the shaft 5 for turning section B, a similar pinion. 8 being rigidly fixed to the tubular shaft 9 to quickly rotate part C.
Part B is removably attached to section C, so as to rotate with Belle-ci. The means shown here for fixing the two parts B and C comprise a screw 29 (fig. 6), the rod 30 of this screw being supported so as to be able to turn in the tubular shaft 9. The rod 30 has a knurled head 31, by means of which it can be turned. The screw 29 is guided inside an axial opening 32 (the shaft 5 and can engage with the screw threads 33 formed in this shaft. The rod 30 tapers at 34, at the end of the shaft. the outer end of the screw 29.
When the latter is pushed fully and turned to engage with the threads 33, the conical part 34 engages a semi-circular shoe 35, which is mounted in a recess 36 formed in this part of the shaft. 5. When the screw 29 is turned to come in prie with the threads 33, the conical part 34 forces the shoe 35 radially outwardly to engage it with the sleeve 8, and couple the shaft 5 to the sleeve 8 and the part B to. part C.
A spring. 37 of expansion surrounding the outer part of the rod 30, presses at one end ('1mite against the head 31. And at its other end against the outer end of the shaft 9 i ubular. When the screw 29 is rotated out of engagement with the threads 33, the spring 37 moves the screw to the left and keeps it out of engagement with the threads 33. The action of the spring 37 is limited by contact with a stop 37a of rod 30, with the inner end of shaft 9.
A device is provided to give the line spacing movement at the middle section B, when the machine is running smoothly. This device com-porb Moon toothed wheel 38 which is fixed to the right part of the shaft 5 and which is arranged to be gripped by a toothed member with alternating movement. In this case, this toothed member -: st consists of a bar 39 fixed to an arm 10 pivoted on a cleat 41, which. is fixed to the arm 18. A tension spring 42 is arranged between the member 40 and a cleat 42a of the arm 18 and tends to keep the bar -den tee 39 in contact with the toothed wheel 38.
The toothed bar 39 is moved, near the end of its travel forward, downward, out of engagement with the wheel 38, as a result of the engagement of a pin 43 of the member 40 with a cam 44 attached to end plate 3.
As a result of the fact that the means #, us for rotating the middle part B. during regular machine operation, must be. be placed on the right side of the hand wheel 4 and are placed on the same side of the pin 27, the toothed wheel 38 is. necessarily placed at a considerable distance from the end plate 3 of the carriage. It is therefore impossible to provide, in connection with the toothed wheel 38, means such as those which are usually provided in connection with a line spacing wheel to complete the movement started by the line spacing pawl.
For this reason, the wheel 38 has been provided with relatively fine teeth, the teeth of the bar 39 being of the same type. These teeth are of such dimension that there are several for an angle of rotation of the shaft corresponding to a normal spacing. Since there is virtually no wasted movement between bar 39 and ratchet wheel 38, this bar rotates the wheel immediately upon commencing a stroke forward of arm 18.
There is thus obtained a sufficient rotational movement of the wheel 38 to rotate part B of a complete interlinear space, without employing means such as those which are employed in connection with the rour, s ratchet 16 and 24, to complete the interlinear spacing movements of parts A and C of the cylinder.
It will be seen that each part of the cylinder can be rotated by hand, independently of the others; that the middle part and the left part can be turned quickly to take out and insert the sheets; and that all parts can simultaneously receive the interlinear spacing movement during the smooth running of the machine.
Part B and part C of the cylinder must be relatively rotatable. once the account and statement sheet have been entered into the machine, since the lines on which to write will usually be at different distances from the top edges of the respective sheets. The construction shown here allows this relative rotation by means of the hand wheels 6 and 13.
Once the lines of these sheets are aligned, the parts B and C can simultaneously receive the interlinear spacing movement by means of the ratchet wheels 2.1. And 38 or else, these parts can be connected, if desired, to the means of the interlocking device 35, of. way that they are put in. rotate simultaneously using the cylinder button 13.
The nesting or blocking device 35 is found to be of greatest use when it is desired to print a sheet of a size such that both parts B and C are to be used.
As will be understood, the drilled tape remains in the machine, while recordings are made on a succession of pairs of tally sheets and tally records and is regularly moved one interlinear space by means of the pawl and ratchet 16, 17.
From the foregoing, it will be appreciated that the described carriage has the advantage that the middle section B can be coupled to one of the end sections without relative axial displacement of these sections.
At least one of the shafts carrying the cylinder sections may be provided with a toothed wheel of small diameter, by means of which the corresponding shaft can be coupled to a mechanism for effecting a rapid rotation of this, respectively of. these sections.
