Dans ces diverses figures, et plus spécia lement dans la, vue générale de la. fig. 1, le châssis du chariot 1 supportant l'arbre 2 sur lequel est goupillé le cylindre 3 d'avancement du papier qui est actionné à la main au moyen des boutons moletés 4 fixés à chaque extré mité de l'arbre 2;
fig. 1, qui actionnent simultanément deux en grenages 41, fig. 5, commandant la. rotation du groupe de galets 24, et deux engrenages 42 commandant la rotation du groupe de ga lets 31;
Typewriter. The present invention relates to a typewriter comprising a carriage carrying a drive cylinder and a paper advancement mechanism.
This typewriter is characterized in that the advancement of the superposed sheets of paper is caused simultaneously by the cylinder and "two groups of take-up rollers driven by a rotational movement of the same circumferential speed as the cylinder.
The invention will, moreover, be fully understood with the aid of the description and explanations which follow with reference to the appended drawing which represents an embodiment, given by way of example, of the object of the invention. 'invention.
In this deesin: La, fig. 1 is a view in longitudinal vertical section of the carriage of the typewriter, section which can be defined by the broken line: 4 <41-BBl-CC 'of FIG. 2.
Fig. 2 is a cross section following the. line DDl of FIG. 1.
Fig. 3 is a section identical to the previous one, but in which the various members are shown in a different position.
Fig. 4 reproduces the lower left part of fig.l, but showing the same organs in a different position.
Fig. 5 is an external view, in profile, taken in the direction of the arrow f, fig.1. The, fig. 6 is a profile, in section, along line EE1 of FIG. 1.
Figs. 7 and 8 show, on a larger scale, two devices forming a universal joint and connecting either two neighboring take-up rollers, or an end roller and its control.
In these various figures, and more specifically in the, general view of the. fig. 1, the frame of the carriage 1 supporting the shaft 2 on which is pinned the cylinder 3 for advancing the paper which is actuated by hand by means of the knurled knobs 4 fixed to each end of the shaft 2;
the latter still carries the ratchet 5, see fig. 1 and 5, entrained the cylinder dre and itself actuated by the usual pawl 6.. In more or less different forms, all these organs are common to typewriters of any type.
A centering star 8 is placed on the shaft 2, FIG. 1 and 6, at the periphery of which there are notches 9 forming angles, the bisectors of which pass through the center of the cylinder, as shown in FIG. 6; a roller 10, carried by the bent lever 11, is pressed in one of the notches by the spring 12, the tension of which is adjusted using the screw 13. The cylinder 3 is thus perfectly stopped in each of its positions, independently of the ratchet 5.
A lever 14, provided with a handle 15 and pivoting on an axis 16, carries a ramp 17 whose action on a roller 18 fixed to one of the ends of the lever 11 makes it possible to oscillate the latter around its axis. 19, thus moving the roller 10 away from the centering star 8. This maneuver therefore frees the centering star and, consequently, the cylinder which can at this moment turn freely.
A plate 20, fig. 1 and 2, of identical length to that of the cylinder 3, can oscillate around the rod 21 to be applied as the cylinder 22, pushed as it is by the spring 23. This plate is intended to guide the. or the sheets of paper which are fed into the machine according to the arrow P.
The papers are first driven against the cylinder by a group of large rear rollers 24 which are each supported by two independent arms 25 in which they spin; these arms pivot about the axle 26 and are urged by springs. 27, the tension of which can be adjusted by screws 28, which makes it possible to adjust the pressure of each arm independently of the others.
By comparing the different positions of the organs such as emerges from FIGS. 2 and 3, we see that by oscillating a transverse shaft 29 provided with notches 30 which receive re; 9pectively each arm 25, it is possible to obtain the position of FIG. 2 according to which the rollers 24 are in pressure on the cylinder, or the position of FIG. 3 according to which the rollers are separated from the cylinder, the pressure being thus removed.
The papers are then driven by a group of small front rollers 31 which act in exactly the same way as the rear rollers. Each front roller is, in fact, supported by two independent arms 32 in which it pivots; these arms pivot about the axis 33 and are urged by springs 34, the tension of which can be adjusted by the screws 35, the pressure of each arm 32 being able, therefore, to be regulated independently of the other arms.
By bringing together the different positions of the members shown in fig. 2 and 3, we see that by oscillating a transverse shaft 36 carrying. notches 37 which receive the arms 32, it is possible to obtain either the position of FIG. 2 according to which the rollers 31 are in pressure on the cylinder, ie the position of, FIG. 3, according to which the rollers 31 are separated from the cylinder, which relieves the pressure.
The simultaneous control of the transverse shafts 29 and 36, with a view to their partial rotation which must effect the displacement of the two groups of rollers, is effected by means of the device represented by: FIG. 5.
A lever 38, the position of which in relation to the other parts of the machine is moreover indicated in FIG. 1, is wedged directly on the shaft, 36, and it is understood that, when it is operated in the direction of the arrow f ", the group of small rollers 31 is moved away from the cylinder, as shown in .
fig.3; but said lever is provided with a finger 39 which at the same time drags the fork lever 40 clamped on the shaft 29, thus causes it to rotate in the direction of the arrow f â and thus produces the separation of the group. large pebbles 24.
Furthermore, the rotational movement on themselves of the rollers of each group which must produce, in synchronization with the rotational movement of the cylinder, the absolutely correct advance of the sheets of paper is obtained as follows: At the ends of the drive cylinder 3, and wedged on the shaft 2 or integral with the cylinder, the two gears 7 are mounted.
fig. 1, which simultaneously actuate two in gears 41, fig. 5, commanding the. rotation of the group of rollers 24, and two gears 42 controlling the rotation of the group of rollers 31;
the pitch diameter of the gears 7 is equal to the diameter of the cylinder, and the pitch diameter of the gears 41 and 42 are respectively equal to the diameter of the rollers 24 and 31, so that between the cylinder and the rollers of the two groups will have the same circumferential speed.
The movement is then transmitted to the rollers through a device which is identical for the two groups. In order not to affect the clarity of the drawing, we did. represented in fi-. 1 as the transmission relating to the rollers 31, but it is easy to see that this transmission is also applicable to the rollers 24 and that the same arrangement is still shown by a section made following the. line AOF of FIG. 2.
It can therefore be seen, from FIG. 1, that the gears 42, rotating in the frame 1, drive the parts 43 by oscillating tenons and tails traversed by a pin 44, the , fig. ï gives the detail of this assembly diii can oscillate in two perpendicular directions. Then the parts 43 in turn drive the rollers 31 by similar connections, the pins always being placed on each part 43 to 31 in two perpendicular directions.
It should be noted that this arrangement is given only by way of example, and that it can be replaced by any other suitable assembly, such as that shown in fig.8, which consists of two pins. per pendicular 45, the ends of which are taken in the perpendicular grooves of an external manclon 46. In practice, it is sufficient that the assembly carries out the transmission of movement from one end to the other of all the rollers of a group by means of joints playing the role of a series of cardan joints.
Fig.4 shows that when the, rollers 31 of the cylinder 3, the. end piece 43 tilts without the rollers being aban given by their command 43-42.
Thanks to the independence of the arms 25 and 32 respectively supporting the rollers 24 and 31, and also to the connection of these rollers by cardan joint, each roller can. apply on the cylinder with adjustable pressure at. will to. each of its ends whatever the thickness of the superimposed papers, this thickness being able to vary from one end of the cylinder to the other without this affecting the parallelism of the advance, and since the circumferential speeds of the cylinder and of the pebbles., have equal,
the sheet of paper bearing on the cylinder and the upper sheet bearing: on the rollers are driven rigorously at the same speed, dragging the other interposed sheets, as well as the intermediate sheets of carbon paper, and eliminating any slippage of the sheets. on others.
The centering star ensures, on the other hand, a clean and stable position of the cylinder during the. hitting a line. In all the typing phases, both during typing of a line and when passing from one line to another, the movements of the paper and the resulting irregularities are thus avoided.
