Process for the preparation of a vat dye. In the Swiss patent no. 127786 a process for the preparation of a new vat dye (allo-ms-naphtodianthron) is described ben. This dye can be converted into a vat dye which contains two atoms of chlorine in the molecule and can be referred to as dichloro-allo-m-naphthodianthrone according to the process of additional patent no. 133111.
It has now been found that a new vat dye which contains 2 atoms of chlorine in addition to 2 atoms of bromine in the molecule and can be referred to as dichloro-dibromo-allo-ms-naphtodi-anthrone is obtained when allo-ms-naphthodianthrone is used , a chlorinating agent and bromine interact.
The chlorinating agent, for example chlorine or sulfuryl chloride, and the bromine can be allowed to act on the allo-ms-naphthodiethrone at the same time or one after the other in any order.
For example, one can advantageously proceed in such a way that the dichloro-allo-ms-naphtodiantbron is first prepared according to the method of additional patent no. 133111 and bromine is allowed to act on it. It is expedient to work in the presence of catalysts, for example metals and metal salts, and solvents.
The dichloro-dibromo-allo-ms-naphtodian- thron is a brown-red powder which is soluble in concentrated sulfuric acid with a green color. His dyeing on cotton from blue-violet Bind vat is bright red, particularly real and deep in color.
Example 1: In a solution of 10 parts of allo-ms-naphthodiantbron (dye of the Swiss patent no. 127786) in 100 parts of nitrobenzene, after the addition of 0.5 part of iodine at 60 below Stirring 10 parts of sulfuryl chloride added dropwise; the mixture is stirred for a further 6 hours at this temperature, then heated to 160, 0.5 part of iron is added and 10 parts of bromine are added. As soon as the evolution of hydrogen halide has ended, it is left cold and suctioned off.
Example 2: 10 parts of the dichloro-alloms-naphtodianthrone obtained according to Example 1 of the additional patent no. 133111 are converted into 100 parts of nitrobenzene after adding 1 part of iron at 160 10 parts of bromine are added while stirring. The mixture is then stirred at this temperature until the evolution of hydrogen bromide has subsided (about 6-8 hours), then allowed to cool and suctioned off.
