Speed indicator. The object of the. principal patent claim is a speedometer which has two wheels arranged to rotate in opposite directions to each other, one at constant speed, the other under the control of a variable speed shaft, the 'one of these wheels carrying a set of drive pawls for rotating ratchets with automatic return, capable of individually determining the control of an indicator needle, while the other wheel is used for. actuate a member arranged to produce, during the constant running of this wheel, an intermittent release of the pawls of the corresponding ratchets so as to.
forcing these latter to take turns with more or less deviation in order to adjust the control of the needle in relation to the variations in speed of the aforementioned shaft.
The present invention aims at an improvement in this meter allowing the needle to obey also at low speeds immediately at reductions in speed and not only with a certain delay which may be all the greater the greater the speed will be. smaller, as may be the case in the embodiment described in the main patent.
According to this improvement, the ratchets acting in active stroke by a finger on a control disc of the automatic return needle, this control disc is combined with a second disc connected to the first by a planetary gear and presenting, like this, an arched slit, but angularly displaced with respect. to that of the first disc, these slits used for the passage of a finger connected to the indicating needle and allowing by their. cooperation to reduce the needle clearance to zero when they are completely offset from each other.
The accompanying drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention: FIG. 1 is an axial section thereof; Fig. 2 is a plan view corresponding to FIG. 1.
A fixed central axis 1 is supported by the plate 2. This axis supports two toothed wheels 3, 4 mounted idle on it and connected to each other by a friction clutch with springs 5, 6. The hub of the wheel 4 carries a plate 7 which supports a finger 8. The wheel 3 is actuated by means of an intermediate pinion 9 by a control pinion 10 actuated by the shaft whose speed is to be measured. A clockwork balance 11 serves to regulate the movement thus communicated by the wheel 3 to the wheel 4. The pinion 10 also drives a large toothed wheel 12 carrying a series of four pawls 19, 20, 21 and 22, respectively engaged. with rocks 23, 24, 25 and 26 mounted idle on axis 1.
These pawls are always recalled on the ratchets 23, 24, 25, 26 by means of small spells 27. The ratchets 23, 24, 25 and 26 pivoted on the axis 1 are respectively recalled on a common stop pin 28 fixed to the axis 1 by the action .de corresponding balance springs 29, the ratchets each having an arcuate slot 30 for the passage of this pin. A disc 33 surmounting the rocks and which is also returned by a hairspring 34 supports a finger 35 passing through an arcuate slot 36 provided in the ratchets 23, 24, 25 and 26, this finger serving to drive the disc 33. The disc 33 is provided with an arcuate slot 40.
All these arrangements are similar to those of the embodiment described in the main patent.
On the disc 33 is placed a toothed wheel 50, pivoting on its axis 51. This toothed wheel is permanently engaged on the one hand with the small pinion 52, which is integral with the axis 1, and on the other hand with a reboTd disc 53, carrying an internal toothing and surmounting the disc 33. The disc 53 has an arcuate slot 54 equal in length to that of the disc 33, but angularly offset with respect to the latter. A finger 38 integral with the indicator needle 37 rotating with friction on the axis 1, passes through the arcuate slots 40, 54 of the two discs 33, 53.
The mechanism works as follows: When the control pinion -10 is running, the toothed wheels 4 and 12 turn in opposite directions to each other. The wheel 12 drives with it the ratchets 23, 24, 25 and 26 via the pawls 19, 20, 21 and 22. The ratchets 23, 24, 25 and 26 in turn drive the disc 33 through the intermediary of the finger 35. Finally, the disc 3'3 drives the needle 37, as will be seen below, until the finger 8 of the plate 7 disengages one of the pawls, 19 for example. The ratchet 23 then released falls back on the fixed stop pin 28 and waits for the pawl 19, after passing through the finger 8, to engage again with its ratchet 23 to drive it again.
But during the reported return of the ratchet 23, the disc 33, which by its finger 35 was retained by the ratchet 23, also returns from a certain angle to be retained this time by the ratchet 24, driven by the pawl 20 which has. already done three-quarters of its race, since it is he who will then be released by the finger 8. This is not the case for the first lap starting from zero, since the ratchets at rest are all stopped on the stop pin 21.
But at the end of the first turn the four ratchets are shifted by a quarter and take turns as finger 8 releases them. The movement of the disc S3 will be communicated to the indicator needle via the finger 38 which abuts against one end of the arcuate slot 40 of said disc, the needle changing position according to the relative rotational speed of the wheels 4 and 12 one with respect to the other and in dependence on the relaying that; has just been explained.
The disc 33 also drives with it the disc 53 via the toothed wheel 50, the small fixed pinion 52 and the internal toothing of the disc 53. This planetary gear is calculated to drive the disc 53 in the same direction. than disc 33, but at a speed a quarter higher. The result is that, the more the disc 33 advances, dragged by the finger 35, the more the disc 53 will advance on the disc 33 and give play to the finger 38, which at the start was stuck by the crossing of the two. arched slots 40 and 54 (fig. 2). The amount produced by the crossing of these arcuate slits is always equal to the length of the oscillations of the disks 33 and 53 and in this way the needle can be returned without delay.
At the ma xima oscillations, the two slots 36, 54 correspond exactly to each other, being superimposed, but when the oscillations are smaller, the slots by shifting reduce the clearance left on the finger 38 to bring it back to zero when the counter is at. the stop.
