A cet effet (voi? fig.
Speed indicator. The present invention relates to a speedometer making it possible to record the speed of rotating shafts with a continuous movement or of parts moving with a reciprocating movement.
This speedometer comprises in combination: a rotating part controlled by the mobile whose speed is to be measured; an oscillating part successively dragged then released by this rotating part and subjected to the action of at least one return spring, the whole so that the average amplitude of the oscillating part depends on the speed to be measured; an indicator member moving with the offset of the mean oscillation position of the oscillating part; means for preventing this indicator organ from participating in the oscillations.
The accompanying drawing represents, by way of example, embodiments of the object of the invention.
Figs. 1, 2 and 3 relate to a first embodiment; Figs. 4 to $ each show a variant; figs. 9 and 10 still show a variant; Figs. 11 to 15 relate to another embodiment. Fig. 11 is a top plan view, with the dial removed. Figs. 12 and 13 are two sections made along line A-B and viewed respectively in the direction indicated by arrows a and b.
Fig. 14 is a section along i-D and FIG. 15, a section along E-F of FIG. 11.
In the embodiment of FIG. 1 to 3, 1 designates a periodically driven disc, 2 its return spring, 3 the indicator needle.
The device for periodically winding the disc 1 consists of a rotating part 4 driving and then releasing the disc 1 alternately; for this purpose, the part 4 is constituted by a plate carrying a portion of toothing 5 on its periphery, this toothing meshing with a toothing 6 disposed on the periphery of the disc 1.
The plate 4, instead of having an interrupted toothing, could be constituted by an eccentric toothed pinion and consequently attacking the teeth of the plate 1 only at certain times. It would also be possible to use a pinion approaching and moving away alternately from the disc 1 by virtue of a suitable cam device or any other similar device and thus producing a series of successive rewindings and disengages.
It would also be possible, in all the above-mentioned cases, to replace the teeth 5 and 6 by friction devices.
Provision has been made between the disc 1 and the drive part 4. (read elastic connection in order to avoid blocking between the deuturc, s 5 and 6 when erecting, èrremerrt. For this purpose (see fig. . 3), the axis 8 of the disc 1 is supported by the fork 9, pivoting about the axis 10 carried by the housing of the apparatus. 11 are return springs.
With regard to the drive of the plate 4, when it comes to continuous rotations, it suffices to connect, either directly or by means of any control device (gears, pulleys, flexible cables, etc. ), the continuously rotating shaft whose speed is to be rrresurler, to the rod 7 integral with the part 4.
But it is also possible either to record reciprocating movements, or to record continuous rotational movements by means of intermediate organs animated by alternating end points.
It suffices to connect the plate 4 by a connecting rod to the organ driven by a reciprocating movement, this organ being able to be any one, for example constituted by it piston, harmonization of an electromagnet, etc., depending on whether a control means, pneumatic, electric, etc. In that case. one can provide firing) device allowing the passage of the dead points and ensuring the continuous rotation of the plate 4.
Fig. 4 shows such a device, in which a lever 12 returned by a spring 13 presses on title cam 14 wedged on the hard shaft plate 4. x-x denotes the line of dead centers of the connecting rod.
The respective positions of the big end, of the cam and of the lever are such that the action of the lever begins before the arrival of each neutral point and continues until after the passage of this neutral point. During the outward and return periods between the dead points, the carne 14 removes the lever 12 and band the res, return-spring 13. Before each neutral point, the lever returned by its spring produced on the oblique part of the cam an action which generates a component which is transformed into rotation and produces the passage of the neutral point.
If the force transmitted is not overabon dante, it will be essential to have the portion of toothing 5 at the point where this force produces maximum soli effect (period of a; ler or return or both, of the animated organ of 'an alternative movement for example).
The device for passing through the dead points which has just been described is of course given only by way of example. We can use any other device producing the same result. The part 4 could, for example, carry a toothing meshing with a toothed part having a certain inertia. This toothing would be interrupted after passing through neutral, even under the influence of the inertia of the toothed part. During the return period, part 4 would mesh again with this part and the gear would again be interrupted after passing the bottom dead center.
The drive of the organs animated by reciprocating movements and producing the rotation of the part 4 can be obtained electrically, pneumatically, mechanically, etc.
In the variant of fig. .), the drive of part 4 takes place electrically. 15 is the sleeping shaft we want to measure the speed of rotation; on this shaft is wedged a rotary switch 16 which, by coming into contact with the pads 17 and 18, successively closes and opens the circuits of two electromagnets 19 and 20, placed with regard to the irrigation of the other.
These appliances alternately attract an armature 21 articulated at 22 which is thus animated with a reciprocating movement producing the drive of the part 4 through the intermediary. diary of the connecting rod 23.
The rotary switch device formed by parts 15, 16 and 17 must be arranged so that one of the appliances controls the forward movement of the connecting rod and the other the return, while leaving the top and bottom dead centers , the free play of the sector whose dead points of the connecting rod will be passed by means of the device described in FIG. 4.
It would also be possible to achieve the electric control by means of a single electromagnet which would cause one of the movements of the armature, which would be brought back by a return spring.
In the variant of FIG. 6, the control device is pneumatic. A cylinder 24 is in connection with a pipe 25 and receives at each revolution of the shaft or the wheel whose speed is to be measured, a certain volume of air which drives a piston 26 in front of it and causes it to perform a certain stroke. determined. The connecting rod 27 attacks the part 4 and transmits to it the movement of the piston. This part 4, thanks to the play of a positive say for passing dead points, turns by one turn at each pulse.
In the variant of FIG. 7, the order takes place mechanically.
On the shaft 15 whose speed is to be measured is wedged an eccentric 28 which, at each revolution, produces the oscillation of an arm 29 articulated at 30. This arm, by means of a cable 31 placed in a -fixed sheath 32, controls at each turn a lever 33 both pivot 34 and biased by a spring 35 placed in the casing of the meter-indicator. The lever 33 controls the connecting rod 36 which rotates the part 4 by virtue of the device for passing the dead points described above.
The part 4 driven as it has just been described, either directly or through the intermediary of reciprocating movement members controlled in any suitable manner, attacks the disc 1 and the latter, subjected to the action of the part 4 and its return spring 2, is driven by an oscillating movement, the average position of which depends on the speed to be measured, and is indicated at all times by indicator needle 3. This is mounted on an axis located in the extension of the axis of disc 1 and independent from it; this axis is carried by a suitable support and the hub of the needle is braked by a blade 37 (fig. 1).
The disc 1 carries two lugs 38 and 39 which frame a rod 40 integral with the guille 3 (fig. 1 and 2) and which can come to meet this rod.
The spacing of the pins 38 and 39 is very slightly greater than the average amplitude of oscillation of the disc 1.
In these conditions; at constant speed, the mean oscillation position of the disc 1 remaining fixed, the lugs 38 and 39 do not meet the rod 40 and the needle braked by the blade 37 remains fixed.
If, at a given moment, the speed increases the mean oscillation position of the disc 1 moves and one of the pins, 38, for example, meets the rod 40, and moves the needle bringing it in front of a new division of the dial corresponding to the new speed of rotation.
If, conversely, the speed decreases, it is the other lug, 3.9, for example, which strikes the rod 40 and drives the needle in the opposite direction.
Until now, it has been assumed that the central disc 1 was reassembled directly by sector 4; but one can, of course, insert between these two members one or more intermediate gears, with or without inertia masses, and which can if necessary be mounted on a part capable of performing a certain rotation around a suitable axis , during the attack on sector 4, in order to avoid blockages and jamming between the teeth.
Likewise, it was assumed that the central disc 1 was biased by an axial spring; ruais it can also be recalled by the intermediary of other parts, for example by a gear constituted for example by a toothed sector on which one or more tension springs act.
Fig. 8 schematically shows such a return device 'of the disc 1, by means of an oscillating toothed sector il, returned by a spring 42, and meshing with a pinion 43 wedged on the shaft of the disc 1.
This solution is all the more advantageous as, in order to have equidistant divisions of the caidran, the tension of the springs must increase with the speed following a very rapid progression.
With a device such as that of FIG. 8, the dewlap spring or springs can be arranged such that the action of these springs increases with speed, thanks to the component due to the displacement of the return sector 41.
Thus in the case of FIG. 8, the tension of the spring at rest is zero and, for a certain offset which brings the parts in 41 'and 42', the action of this small spring reaches a considerable value thanks to 1 a following component a-rx which adds evening action at the increase in tension said spring and multiplies the effect of this increase.
We can still use in the same eight of the springs arranged in marnière to balance each other air rest and to add their tensions during the shifts, or even springs coming successively into action when the speed increases.
Part 4 can, as has been assumed up to now, turn up and down with each pulse, and thus engage the mechanism once in each turn. But it is also conceivable, for reasons of reduction or others, for this attack to take place several times per turn or even every second turns. Part 4 will turn under these conditions of 1 turn, at each revolution of the shaft, M and the control rod of this part can be replaced by a ratchet with a teeth wedged on the shaft of part 4 and dragged by the shaft whose speed is to be measured.
However, for the continuity of the movement and to reduce the shocks to a minimum, it may be advantageous to keep for the part 4 the continuous rotational movement as described at the beginning of this report. In this case, instead of engaging the central disc directly by the part 1, we will have titi intermediate gear on which will be wedged the attatqiie sector.
Until now, or assumed that the axis of rotation of part 4 was outside art disc 1; but it can also be very much inside this disk or even con centric to it.
In the latter case, the drive pinion 4 will for example be mounted on a titi arm rotating around a concentric air disc axis 1 and will mesh, at times v orluis, with the disc 1 either internally or externally to this disc. , the engagement being controlled for example by suitably arranged fixed bos wise.
Dan, the variant of fig. 9 and 10, for example, the rod, 7 driven by the shaft whose speed is to be measured, is in the pro longing of the axis (it disc 1 and it carries an arm 43 on which the pinion 4 is articulated. This therefore describes a neck circumference centric to the disc 1 while rolling on this disc.
A courorrrie44 having one or more bosses 45 surrounds the whole of the disc 1 and the pinion 4. The latter is integral with a part 46; this part will meet the bosses 45 which will immobilize it.
The pinion 4 is thus immobilized after passing each boss and can no longer roll freely on the disc 1. The disc 1 is therefore driven by the arm 43 via said pinion 4.
As soon as the boss has passed, the pinion comes free again and, as a result of the free rolling one on the other of the pinion and the disc 1, the latter can come back, under the action of either the return device, thus as described above.
One could use a toothed piece pi voting on the arm 43 and which, on passage of the bosses engages with the disc 1 and is disengaged immediately after the passage of the bosses thus freeing the disc 1.
The above-mentioned electrical and pneumatic controls can more specifically find their use for remote controls (aircraft tachometers, speedometers for automobiles), the direct connection on the rotating part with or without gear reduction can be used with advantage. for machine counters, bicycle speedometers etc.
In the embodiment of FIGS. 12 to 15, 47 designates a rotating shaft driven, directly or indirectly, by the mobile, shaft or wheel whose speed is to be measured.
This shaft rotates in a socket 48 and carries, inside the apparatus, a pinion 49 and a worm 50. The toothing of pinion 49 is interrupted over a certain fraction of its periphery.
The pinion 49 meshes with a pinion 51 on the shaft of which is wedged a pinion 52 driving a central gear 53.
A pinion 54 integral with the gear train 53 is engaged with a toothed sector 55 which can oscillate around the axis 56. An antagonist springs; not shown in the drawing, one attached to the fixed point 57 and to a point 58 of the sector, the other attached to the fixed point 59 and to a point 60 of the sector, act on this toothed sector and tend to oppose either movement.
As a result of the interruption of the toothing of the pinion 49, when the shaft 47 rotates, the gear train 53 is alternately driven by means of the pinions 51 and 52 and then released.
Each time it is released, this cog tends to return to its initial position, under the action of the springs acting on the sector 55. The assembly of the cog 53 and the pinions 51 and 52 has an inertia which allows this assembly to have, under the action of the res spells acting on sector 55, a time-dependent return speed; the desired inertia can be obtained by means of additional masses such as the small flywheel 6l wedged on the shaft of the pinions 51 and 52. This inertia could also be obtained by the set of paddles acting by their resistance in rotation on the shaft. air and arranged on one of the axes carrying the pinion 52 or the gear 53.
it results from this that it is established between the frequency of windings of the gear train 53 (frequency depending on the speed of rotation of the shaft 47) and the return speed of this gear ( speed which depends on the force of the springs acting on the sector 55 and the inertia of the mobile device), an equilibrium, which results from the oscillations of the gear train 53 around an average position of equilibrium which depends on the speed of rotation of the shaft 47 and shifts with the variations of this speed, the offsets of this average position are used to measure the speed. So that there can be blocking between the interrupted toothing of the pinion 49 and the pinion 51, a plate 62 has been provided which can move around a pillar and which carries at its end one of the pivots of the axle carrying the pinion 51. .
The device making it possible to make the indicator needle independent of the oscillations of the gear train 53 is sensitive only to the shifting of the mean position of these oscillations and is constituted as follows: A central pinion 63, mounted in the axis of the device, carries the indicator needle; a part 64 wedged on the central shaft carrying the members 53 and 54 and oscillating with this shaft, carries a small toothed section 65 which engages with the pinion 63 and which can rotate around the axis 66.
During the oscillations of the members 53, 54 and 64, the toothed sector 65 rotates freely on the pinion 63 without driving it; Lôrs of a shift in the mean position of the oscillations, resulting from a variation in speed, the sector 65 is immobilized by stops and drives the pinion 63, and consequently the indicator needle.
So that the pinion 63 is completely independent of the oscillations, it is slightly braked by a washer 67.
The end saris screw 50 is used to control the odometer; it drives a toothed wheel 68 wedged on a shaft 69 which carries, at one of its ends, a worm 70 driving a toothed wheel 71. This toothed wheel is placed on the axis of the first disc 72 'of the totalizer; it can drive this disc, either directly by being wedged on its axis, or by the intermediary of a suitable reduction mechanism, depending on whether it is desired that the first disc marks hundreds of meters or kilometers.
73 and 74 designate the successive disks of the totalizer which are driven one by one by a knock device. and stars.
The disc 73 is driven by a tenth of a turn with each revolution of the disc 72 and, likewise, the disc 74 rotates by a tenth of a revolution with each complete revolution of the disc 73.
The numbers of the totalizer are placed side by side and are made visible by a notch in the dial 75.
76 designates the crystal covering the dial and 77 the case of the apparatus.
The shaft 47 can be driven in any convenient way.
The indicator which has just been described although capable of all other applications is intended, in particular; to be mounted on bicycles and motorcycles.
In this case, the shaft 47 could, for example, be driven by means of a star 78 wedged on it and meshing with a perforated neck, fixed to the spokes of one of the wheels concentrically to the hub.
The computer will be fixed to the bicycle by means of the bracket 79 clamped between the fork ef * the hub fixing bolt.
