Les fig. 1, 2 et 3 se rapportent à la pre mière forme d'exécution; La fig. 1 est une vue de face d'une partie du cylindre montrant la position du guide- feuille par rapport au cylindre et à son sup port ; La fig. 2 est une vue semblable dans la quelle le doigt mobile a été déplacé dans une position dans laquelle son bord fait suite au bord de l'échelle du guide-feuille, permettant ainsi une visibilité plus complète; , La fig. 3 est une coupe suivant la ligne 3-3 de la fig. 1;
Device for holding the sheet in a typewriter. The present invention relates to a device for holding the sheet in a typewriter, this device comprising a pair of guide fingers adapted to extend above and through the print line and curved backwards towards the center. cylinder, a notch being provided between said fingers in a room for the passage of the character bars towards the cylinder, one of the fingers being placed immediately adjacent to this notch, while the other finger is mounted at a certain distance of the notch, at least this finger being movable to and stopped in a position in which it aligns with the print line.
The accompanying drawing represents, by way of example, several embodiments of the object of the invention.
Figs. 1, 2 and 3 relate to the first embodiment; Fig. 1 is a front view of part of the cylinder showing the position of the sheet guide relative to the cylinder and its support; Fig. 2 is a similar view in which the movable finger has been moved to a position in which its edge follows the scale edge of the sheet guide, thereby allowing fuller visibility; , Fig. 3 is a section taken along line 3-3 of FIG. 1;
Fig. 4 is a modified embodiment in which a finger is supported independently of the scale; Fig. 5 is a section taken along line 5-5 of 1â fig.4; Fig. G is another embodiment in which the two fingers are movable; Fig. 7 is a front view of yet another embodiment, in which the ladder holding the sheet and each finger are mounted independently; Fig..8 is a section taken along line 8-8 of fig. 7.
With reference, first of all, to the embodiment shown in FIGS. 1, 2 and 3, only a part of the support which is supposed to be carried by the frame of the machine has been shown.
. The leaf guide 1 has two branches 2 each provided with a groove 3 which is wider at 4 than the shank of the fixing screw 5; therefore it is possible to adjust the sheet guide laterally and vertically. The purpose of vertical adjustment is to place the top edge of the guide in exact alignment with the print line, while the side adjustment is to set a marker member 6 in exact alignment with the graduations of a scale C carried by the cylinder carriage and indicating the printing point.
The sheet guide has the usual central notch 7. At the right side of this checkmark is a rigid finger 8 curved in accordance with the curvature of the cylinder and having an outwardly curved edge 9 which prevents the fingers from catching the edges of the sheets. sheets held by it during the relative lateral movement of the cylinder and the sheet guide. At the practically extreme left edge of the sheet guide and at a point well away from the notch 7 is a movable finger 10 for paper which is held by a pivot 11 in the form of a rivet cooperating with a spring washer 12. The latter holds the finger firmly in position and at the same time allows it to be rotated freely, if desired.
This finger is also curved in accordance with the curvature of the cylinder and has curved edges 13, while the end part is cylindrical forming a central button 14 for the operation of the finger. The lower and inner part of the finger 10 has two shoulders 15 and 16 which cooperate with a pin 17 carried by the sheet guide to limit the movement of the finger to each of its extreme positions. The straight edge or inner edge of the finger 10 is graduated with the usual scale graduations and when the finger is moved to a position in which the shoulder 15 touches the pin 17, this edge 18 follows the graduated edge of the sheet guide 1, as shown in FIG. 2.
The two end edges are curved outwardly as indicated at 19 and 20, but the part of edge 19 over which finger 10 moves as it moves from one position to the other is notched or is of a height less than the curved edge 20, so that it cannot prevent such movement. At the same time this edge is sufficiently protruding for the finger to come into contact with it and to prevent its end from coming into contact with the cylinder, despite the fact that it is curved in accordance with the cylinder.
In the embodiment shown in Figs. 4, 5, the sheet guide 21 has the usual notch 22 for the passage of characters to the printing point. This sheet guide is provided at its lower edge with an index 23 adapted to cooperate with the usual scale C which can be adjusted laterally and is carried by the carriage of the cylinder. The guide piece 21 has its ends 24, 25 turned outwardly away from the cylinder. It is also graduated so as to have a scale at its upper edge.
Two protrusions 26 of the sheet guide 21 are attached to two arms of the support A by means of bolts or screws 27 which pass through openings 28 of the support. These openings are larger vertically and laterally than the fixing members in order to allow the vertical and lateral adjustment of the scale 1. Washers 29 are arranged between the nuts 27 of the bolts and the support r1.
As shown in fig. 4, the piece 21 is provided on the right side of the notch 22 with a rigid finger 30 projecting upwardly and which extends through the print line and is bent in accordance with the curvature of the cylinder. This finger is provided with edges 31 curved on the outside and a button 32.
A movable finger 33 is pivoted on the left arm of the support A, on a rivet 34 covering a friction washer 35 adjusted so as to retain the finger in one or the other of its two positions, but allowing it free movement. . This finger has at its lower part two shoulders 36 and 37 which cooperate with a pin 38 to limit the movement of the finger in each direction. The edges of this finger are also curved as indicated at 39 and this finger is provided with a button 40. When the movable finger is moved so that its shoulder 37 rests against the pin 38, its edge 41 follows the top edge of room scale 21.
When the finger 33 is in its vertical position, it is slightly spaced from the curved edge 25 of the part 21, as indicated at 42, in order to allow the necessary lateral adjustment of the part 21.
The embodiment shown in FIG. 6 is similar to that of FIG. 4, with the exception that the two fingers holding the sheet are movable. Instead of the rigid finger 30, it is provided with a movable finger 43 similar to the finger 33. This finger 43 has a button 44 and a curved edge 45. It is pivoted directly on the part 21, by a rivet 46 and a washer. spring 47 and is provided with two shoulders 48 and 49 which cooperate with a pin 50 to stop the finger in one or the other of its positions.
It can be seen that in this modification, when the finger 43 is moved to its lower position, its upper edge practically coincides with the edge of the scale 21.
In the embodiment shown in FIGS. 7 and 8, the sheet guide 51 is fixed to the support A by screws or bolts 52, which pass through grooves 53 sufficiently wide and long to allow the two lateral and vertical adjustments of the part 51. This guide- sheet 51 has the usual notch 54 which allows passage to the character bars towards the point of pressure. The upper edge of the sheet guide has 55 graduations and this edge overlaps with the print line on the cylinder. The ends of the piece 51 have edges 56 curved outwardly to prevent paper or cards from catching on them during the longitudinal relative movement of the cylinder and the holder 51.
A support 57 extends upward and has a portion 58 projecting to the left, on which a finger 39 is pivoted by means of a rivet 60 spaced from the finger by a spring washer 61, thus allowing slack. finger rotation event.
The lower part of the finger is provided with two shoulders 62 and 63 which cooperate with a pin 64 to stop the finger in its movement at one or the other of its extreme positions. The finger 59 is curved in accordance with the curvature of the cylinder and has curved edges 65 as well as a button 66. When the finger 59 is in the position shown in FIG. 7, it extends across the print line, but it can be moved to a second position where the shoulder 63 is in contact with the pin 64; in this position its upper edge coincides with the edge of the part 51.
A support 67 is carried by the support A on the opposite side of the part 51 and a similar finger 68 having curved edges 69 and a button 70 is pivoted on the support 67 by means of a rivet 71 covering a spring washer. 72. The lower part of this finger is provided with two shoulders 73 and 74 which cooperate with a pin 75 to limit the movement of the finger in each direction.
Each of the supports 57 and 67 is attached to the support A by means of bolts or screws 76 which pass through enlarged openings 77 in the support piece and thereby allow vertical and lateral adjustments of the supports and therefore the fingers 59 and 68. It can be seen that the part 51 and that each of the fingers can be adjusted independently either vertically or horizontally. In order to allow these adjustments, the left edge of the finger 68, when it is in its position of FIG. 7, is slightly separated from the curved edge 56 of the part 51 by a space indicated at 78.
