La fig. 1 est une vue en élévation, partie en coupe, montrant une première forme d'exé cution ; La fig. 2 est une vue en coupe transver sale suivant la ligne 2-2 de la fig. 1; La fig. 3 est une vue en élévation, à échelle plus faible, montrant le tube à friser et une pièce de retenue de la chevelure écartés l'un de l'autre;
Device for waving the hair. The present invention relates to a device for waving the hair, which can be used either for real hair or for wigs.
This device comprises a tube intended to be brought into contact with the hair by winding the latter on the tube and means for heating the tube from the inside thereof.
It is advantageous for the tube to include a coating made of material suitable for absorbing a liquid, with a view to producing, by heating, vapors acting on the hair.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, several embodiments of the device according to the invention.
Fig. 1 is an elevational view, partly in section, showing a first embodiment; Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view taken along line 2-2 of FIG. 1; Fig. 3 is an elevational view, on a smaller scale, showing the curling tube and a hair retainer parted from each other;
Fig. 4 is an elevational view, partly in section, showing another embodiment, electrically heated, and FIG. 5 is an elevational view, partly cut away and partly in section, showing a heater which may be used in combination with the heater rod of the device shown in FIGS. 1 and 2.
Referring to Figs. 1 and 2, the crimping tube 10 is formed by a tubular metal piece, of elastic nature, which has a longitudinal slot 11: This slot 11 extends over the entire length of the tube, but it could also extend from the free end of the tube only over part of the length thereof.
A coating or lining 12, made of a material suitable for absorbing a liquid, such as asbestos, is placed on the tube 10, and, as shown at 13, the part of the tube comprising this coating is of a larger diameter. smaller than the remaining part, so that the part of the tube covered with the gasket and the free end of this tube have approximately the same total diameter everywhere, or will be located approximately on the same on the cylindrical face. A support 14, having the general shape of a U and intended to retain the hair, is articulated as shown at 15 on one of the ends of the tube and is bent, as shown at 16, for keep the tube and the support in the desired relative position.
A plate 17 is spun on the free ends of the branches of the U-shaped support, and several recesses 18 are made in the branches of this U, support to come into engagement with the plate. 17 and hold it in the desired adjustment position. The plate 17 also has a central opening for slipping onto the tube 10. In order to prevent the separation of the plate 17 from the branches of the U-shaped support, the free ends of these branches are curved laterally. , as shown in 19.
The heating element shown in Figs. 1 and 2 consists of a rod 20, comprising, at one end, a handle. in insulating material 21; a bent portion 22 is provided on this rod, near the end to which the handle is fixed. As re presented on the fi-. 1, it can be seen that this bent part will exert a clamping action against the inner wall of the tube and will retain the rod 20 in position therein, by friction due to the fact that this tube is split longitudinally and therefore spring.
It is, however, understood that the slot in the tube could be omitted, if so desired, since the elasticity of the rod 20 is sufficient to allow a deformation thereof and therefore will give rise to. a clamping effect sufficient to hold the rod in position in the tube. However, when the tube is split longitudinally, the widening of this tube will bring its outer walls into contact with the plate 17 and help to retain this plate in the desired adjustment position on the tube.
The rod shown in FIG. 1 can be heated by gas or in any other desired manner, for example by placing it in an electric heater, as shown at 40 in FIG. 5.
Fig. 4 shows a heating rod itself enclosing an electric heating element. As shown, the socket 30 of a socket-outlet plug is fixed to the rod 31 and constitutes the handle for the latter, the rod 31 being hollow and enclosing the electric heating conductor 32. The part of the rod 31 adjoining it of the sleeve 30 is frustoconical, as shown at 33, and this frustoconical part serves to radially open or separate the split tube used to crimp or undulate, which prevents accidental separation of the rod and the tube.
The plug 34 for the socket, which is used with the socket 30, can be connected to any electrical lighting installation.
The operation and instructions for use of the device shown in FIGS. 1, 2, 3 and 5 are briefly as follows: First, the plate 17 is lifted so as to release it from the tube 10 and the tube 10 is moved away from the support 14 as shown in FIG. 3. Tube 10 is then immersed in any suitable desired solution to wet it, and the hair is wound around the tube and its covering or padding of absorbent material.
The tube is then engaged between the branches of the support 14, and or moves the plate 17 longitudinally on the branches of the support to slide it on the tube 10 and until it comes into a position for which it is in position. engagement with the hair rolled up on the tube. If, for example, the hair has been rolled up over the entire length of the part of the tube provided with the coating or trim, the plate 17 will be brought into the position shown in FIG. 1.
If the hair is rolled up only on part of the tube, it being understood that this hair is rolled up from the articulation end of the tube 10 on the support 14 towards the free end, the plate 17 will be brought into another position and we will engage and engage in a pair of recesses 18 of the branches of the support.
When this operation has been carried out, the heating rod, which has been heated beforehand, is introduced into the tube 10; due to its clamping action on the tube, this heating rod will be held in the tube 10 without it being necessary to hold the heating rod by hand; the same retaining effect also occurs on plate 17. The heat given off by the rod will cause moisture to pass in the form of vapor, from the absorbent material into the hair. This operation is repeated by removing, reheating and reinserting the rod several times in the tube, until the hair is dry, which holds the wave.
When using the rod with electric heating element shown in fig. 4, one operates in the same way, except that the removal, the re-heating and the reinstallation of this element in the tube are naturally not necessary, since this rod will be heated as long as one maintains the electrical connection.
From the foregoing, it can be seen that the invention provides a device that is simple, practical, efficient and easy to handle, and in tests carried out, it has been found that it is possible to obtain a corrugation having superior qualities of duration. , in a relatively short space of time.
