Mechanism for maneuvering glass frames in convertible bodies. The object of the present invention is a mechanism for operating glazed frames in convertible bodywork, the side walls of which are provided with trenches intended to receive these frames, for example in bodies of motor vehicles.
It is known to tilt these frames, after folding, in excavations or housings made in the side walls of the body; but this arrangement suffers from drawbacks from the point of view of construction, which does not allow the axes of the hinges of the glazed frames to coincide with those of the hinges of the doors, and from the point of view of the maneuver which is often difficult and difficult. requires certain precautions.
The present invention should remedy these drawbacks.
In the mechanism according to the invention, the frame is fixed, by one of its windows, to a window holder mounted in the excavation and controlled demodromically, by levers housed in the excavation, so as to be able to move in height. and a lateral movement to bring the folded frame from its rest position in the excavation to its service position on the edge of the body and vice versa.
This mechanism makes it possible to carry out automatically, in the desired order, the succession of the various movements necessary to put in place and make disappear the glazed frames, for example under the action of an easy to maneuver member such as a mani velle. As all the levers are housed in the excavation, the mechanism does not require, above the excavation, any guide frame which would prevent the deployment of the glazed frame.
When the excavation is inclined in relation to the vertical due to the slope generally presented by automobile bodies, the mechanism can be established so as to straighten the window holder at the entrance to the excavation, this straightening being done preferably during lateral movement towards the edge of the body. The same movements can occur in the opposite direction when the frame is lowered into the excavation.
As the above mechanism does not require the panel containing the excavation to be opened, it is possible to mount the hinges (the doors so that their pivots are in front of this panel so that, in the service position of the glass frame , the hinges of the latter are placed respectively in the axis of the hinges of the doors.
In the accompanying drawings which show, by way of example, an embodiment of the invention applied to a body of a motor vehicle.
Fig.1 and 2 show, in elevation, the operating mechanism in the lowered position and in the raised position; Fig. 3 is a vertical section along the line A-D of FIG. 2; Fig. 4 is a vertical section along the line C-D of FIG. 1; fig. 5 is a partial section taken along the same line, showing the parts in the position of FIG. 2 and fig. 6 is a separate view of the braces in this position;
Fig. 7 is a plan view of the frame in the position of FIG. 1.
There is shown, in phantom lines, in FIGS. 1 to 5, an intermediate position occupied by the mechanism when the window holder is at the entrance to the excavation.
In the example shown, the excavation is formed by a box 1, covered with one side by the outer sheet 2 of the side wall of the body and sufficiently wide to receive the folded glass frame 3, composed of four windows 3a, 3v , 3, 3 # i (fig. 7). One, 3, of these glasses is fixed to the window holder fori))% by a rigid frame comprising a bar. horizontal 4 and two uprights 5 (fig. 1 and 2).
On the bottom 6 of the box 1 is mounted a pin 7 on which is wedged a conical pinion 8 meshing with a pinion 9 whose hub has a square hole 10 intended for. receive the square bearing 11 of a crank 12 (fig. 3). The axis 7 is extended by an endless screw 13 engaged with two symmetrical sectors 14, with helical teeth, journaled at 15, in the box 1 (fi. 1). In the hub (the each sector 14 is mounted a pin 16 whose ends are.
embraced by the fork-shaped end of a curved lever 17. The other end of lever 1.7 is articulated:,: in 18 to a lever articulated in 19 ii bar 4 (bed windows, and formed of two arms 20, 21, connected by an articulation 22 which allows this lever to flex perpendicularly to the window holder.
Each of the arms 21 carries a roller \ _ '3 engaged in a groove 24 of a slide 25. Each groove 24 is concentric with the corresponding pivot 19 dut arm 21 (fig. 1) and it is extended by an eccentric groove 26, then by a short groove 27 which is again concentric with the pivot 19 (FIG. 2). The slide 25 can slide in the uprights 5 and for this purpose it has at each end a lug 28 guided in a groove 30 of one of the uprights, and a lug 29 guided in a groove 31 of this amount.
The lug 21) crosses (the part in the groove 31 and engages in a groove 32 (fig. 1, 2 and 4) formed in a lever 33 forming part of an articulated cross member housed between the niotitatit) and the side of the box 1. Each of these braces is formed by two levers 33, 34 articulated to one another at 35.
EI either lower end, the lever 33 is articulated to the upright 5 by a pin 36, while the other end carries a roller 37 guided in a slide 38 forming part of the box 1. and parallel to the walls thereof. lie]) ras 3-1 carries at its upper end Lin roller 39 guided in a groove 40 of the upright 5, and at the other end a roller 41 (which continues the roller 37, is guided in the slide 38.
When the mechanism is in the position of fig. 1 and 4, the frame 3 is completely enclosed in the excavation. When inserting the crank 11, 12 in the hub of the pinion 9 and actuating it to rotate the screw 13, the sectors 1-1 pivot upwards around their axes 15 by interlocking the levers 17 which raise the window holder by means of the arms 20, 21.
The levers 17 cross in different planes so as not to hinder their symmetrical movements around the axes 15. During this movement, the slide 25 is lifted by the rollers 23 which travel in the grooves 24 and reach the junction points of the grooves. 24 with the grooves 26 in the intermediate position shown in phantom in the drawings. Until this moment, due to the concentricity of the grooves 24 with the pivots 19, there has been no relative movement between the slide 25 and the window holder, and these two parts have risen together parallel to the walls of the excavation.
If we continue to actuate the screw 13 in the same direction, the levers 17 continue their rotation around the axes 15 and the window holder continues to rise until the joints 18 cross the XY lines which join the pivots 19 at the respective centers of rotation 15 (fig. 2). From this moment, the window holder descends as the obliqueness of the levers 20, 21 increases, up to the final position indicated in solid lines in fig. 2.
During this time, the rollers 23 travel along the grooves 26 and, as a result of the eccentricity of the latter with respect to the pivots 19, these rollers raise the slide 25 relative to the window holder 4, 5. The lugs 29 s 'therefore rise in the grooves 31 of the uprights 5, and as they must at the same time follow the grooves 32 of the levers 33 which are articulated to the uprights 5 at 36, the crosses 33, 34 are forced to close. As, on the other hand, the rollers 37 and 41 cannot leave the slide 38, there is a lateral displacement of the window holder towards the edge 42 of the bodywork, the parts passing from the intermediate position indicated in phantom lines to the rear. position indicated in solid lines in fig. 3 and 5.
As shown in the drawing, the lower arms of the levers 33, 34 are longer than their upper arms; so that the lower part of the uprights 5, driven by the pins 36, will perform a greater lateral displacement than the upper end of these uprights which is driven by the rollers 39. There is therefore a straightening of the window holder which occurs. takes the glazed frame out of the excavation plane and places it in a vertical plane, or in general in the plane of the windows of the bodywork. This displacement transfers the articulation 36 and, consequently, the lower part of the uprights 5, between the slides 38 and beyond them, while the bar 4 is applied against the edge 42.
The combination of the lateral displacement, the straightening movement and the descent movement achieved by the passage of the knee pads 17, 20, 21 beyond the lines XY a results in placing the glazed frame 3 on the edge 42 of the body. Thanks to the presence of the joints 16 and 22, the levers 17, 20, 21 can follow the lateral movement of the window holder and do not prevent its recovery.
On the other hand, when the lateral movement has ended, the rollers 23 engage in the short grooves 27 which are concentric with the pivots 19, which makes it possible to continue the downward movement after the lateral movement, the frame 3 then descending. vertically on its seat 42.
These different movements are thus carried out automatically under the action of the mechanism controlled by the crank. This is then removed and the windows can be deployed in the usual way on the doors 43, 44 located on either side of the fixed panel formed by the box 1 and the sheet 2.
The pivots of the respective hinges 45, 46 of the doors 43, 44 are mounted in front of the panel 2 (fig. 7), for example by means of fittings 47, 48 in the form of a square, so that, when the frame 3 comes to rest on the edge 42, the hinges 49, 50 of the glass 3 are placed respectively in the axis of the hinges 45, 46 (fig. 1 to 5). After being deployed, the windows 31 and a "can then be attached to the doors by means of rigid fasteners.
With the window frame folded in, the movements of the window holder are repeated in the opposite direction when the direction of rotation of the crank is reversed, the window holder being first raised, then pushed back to the side and tilted in the level of the crank. the dig and finally lowered. in this one until the vitreous ehîtssis disappears completely in box 1.
During the descent of the window holder in the pit, as well as during the ascent described above, the glazed frame is guided in the pit by edges 51 of the fittings (the hinges 49, 50 (fig. R) which slide in the grooves 52 of box 1, and (it, when the frames are deployed, serve as joint covers between the windows 3 @, 3r 'and 3 ".
Air instead of being placed in a fixed panel (the body, the mechanism described small obviously to be installed in title the ear provided in Liter of the doors forming part of the side wall of the body.
