Shutter device for cinematographic projection apparatus. The present invention relates to a shutter device for an apparatus for cinematographic projections.
This device comprises a pair of shutter members mounted coaxially one behind the other as well as a differential for actuating these shutter members in the opposite direction, this differential being mounted between these shutter members and the whole being arranged to be mounted on the actuating shaft of the shutter of a device.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of a positive device constructed especially with a view to being placed on an existing cinematographic apparatus.
Fig. 1 is a transverse and vertical section thereof; Fig. 2 is an end view looking in the direction of the arrows in FIG. 1.
The same reference signs indicate the same parts in both figures. The shutter comprises two shutter members 1 and 2 in the form of discs mounted coaxially one behind the other. The shutters are preferably formed by aluminum foils and are formed in such a way that they have two shutter parts 31 and 4 ', respectively 32 and 42 in the form of segments, arranged diametrically. one with respect to the other and between these parts open portions for the unimpeded passage of the light beam.
The parts 3 'and 32 of each shutter member have a series of radial slots 3a and the bands 3b formed between these slots are inclined with respect to the plane of the shutter member and parallel to each other, so that each of these parts is like jealousy.
The edges of the bands 3b are worked so as to overlap slightly and the two sides of these bands are polished or prepared so as to be reflective.
These parts 3 'and 32 therefore do not offer the light beam a complete obstacle.
The parts 41 and 42 of each shutter member are solid, but of less width than the light beam, so that they cannot cover it entirely.
The opening through which the light beam passes to reach the shutter is indicated at 20 in FIG. 2.
The shutters 1 and 2 are meshed by means of a differential 5 arranged between them and constructed so as to be able to fit on the motor shaft of the shutter of the apparatus. This differential comprises two toothed wheels 6 and 7 rigidly connected respectively to the shutter members 1 and 2, three intermediate angle gears 8 which mesh with the wheels 6 and 7 and which are carried by a central block 9 and a box 10. A bearing, for example in phosphor bronze, passing freely through the wheels 8, extends through the central block 9 and ends just before the inner face of the wheel 7.
The wheel 7 has a central boss which extends through the member 2 and is threaded in order to receive a nut 11. This member also carries three sets of screws 12 which are engaged with the shaft 13 of the machine. The wheel 6 also has a central boss which passes through the member 1 and is threaded in order to receive a nut 14.
The pinions 8 together with the block 9 and the box 10 are stationary, they can be adjusted by rotating them partially around the axis of the shaft 13 during their normal rotation to remove from the screen what is generally known under the name of "marginal spectrum". The marginal spectrum is due to the fact that the fillings take place at the wrong time, which may result from a slight relative movement taking place between the shaft 13 and the obturators.
To adjust the pinions 8, an arm in the form of a quarter-circle in the form of a curved rod is provided, which is fixed by its inner end to the box 10 and is clamped by its free end in a fixed part of the 'apparatus.
The free end of the arm 15 in the form of a quarter circle is clamped by means of a ru- ba.ri. clamp 16 carried by a shaft 17 which is itself provided with clamping means 18 by means of which it is rigidly fixed to a projection 19 for supporting the actuating shaft 13 of the shutters. The adjustment is made by loosening it. band 16 and by simply sliding the rod 15 relative to this band.
As will easily be understood, the movement is transmitted from the shaft 13 directly to the shutter member 2 and by the wheel 7, the pinions 8 and 1a. wheel 6 to. the shutter member 1, the latter rotating at the same speed as the shutter member, but in the opposite direction.
The operation of this shutter is as follows: Firstly, the position of the shutter members 1 and 2 relative to each other is adjusted such that when they rotate in the opposite direction, the part 41 of the gold gane 1 crosses part 3 \ of member 2 exactly in the axis of opening 20 through which the light beam passes. After a rotation of 180, from the aforementioned position, it will be the part 4 ′ of the member 2 which will cross the part 31 of the member 1 at exactly the same place.
As the parts 4 'and 42 cannot completely cover the opening 20 and, on the other hand, the parts 3' and 32 do not leave the slits 3a and then from the reflection produced by the faces of the parts 3b, a small amount of light, the shutter is never complete and the screen is continuously illuminated, although very weakly, during the wise passage of parts 41 and 3 ', respectively 4 \ and 3' in front of the opening 20, this passage in accordance with the change of image of the film.
It is thus possible to completely avoid the flickering which occurs when the complete obturations of an ordinary shutter, during the change of the film image, become visible to the eye, which can never be the case by means of of the shutter shown, since it never produces complete darkness, but periodically during each change of image, only a decrease in the intensity of the illumination of the screen.
Adjusting the position of the two shutters 1 and 2, one relative to the other, on the shaft 13 also makes it possible to eliminate from the screen what is known under the name of,> marginal spectrum "and which is due to the fact that the fillings for the change of film image do not take place at exactly the right time. This may result, for example, from a slight relative movement between the shutters and the 'tree 13.
A shutter constructed in substance as described and shown in the drawing is particularly intended to be fixed to existing devices, because first of all it is very compact, prepared for known shutters, the axial length being, for example, reduced to a minimum. minimum -and, secondly, very little or no modifications are required to the device to attach the shutter to it.
