Description

Device for polishing hollows in stones, such as sapphires, rubies etc. The present invention relates to a device for polishing hollows in stones, such as sapphires, rubies etc., comprising a polishing lathe whose axis carries a pin intended for polishing the hollow of the stone, -and a stone holder of cylindrical general shape, the latter being provided with a clamp concentric with the axis of the stone holder and intended for.

maintain the stone, clamp whose axis, rotating in a handle of the stone holder, carries a pulley capable of being dragged by contact, during the polishing of the hollow of the stone, by a driven pulley, as well as the axis of the polishing lathe, by an appropriate driving force.

The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, one embodiment of the object of the present invention.

Fig. 1 is an elevational view partially in section of the stone holder; Fig. 2 is an end view on the left; Fig. 3 is an elevational view of said embodiment.

The latter includes a polishing lathe and a stone cutter. The polishing lathe has a doll 1 in the bearings of which rotates an axis 2, carrying a pulley 3, which is driven by a belt 4. One of the ends of the axis 2 is provided with a clamp. rage 5 concentric with the axis 2 which holds the spindle 6, intended for polishing the hollow of the stone and which may be constituted, for example, by a lead rod.

The stone holder (fig. 1), generally cylindrical in shape, is provided with a clamp 7 concentric with the axis of the stone holder and tines to hold the stone. This clamp 7, screw sée, by its end 8, in a rod 9 is arranged inside a tubular shaft 10, rotating clans the handle 11 of the stone holder. The rod 9 actuated by a spring arranged inside the tubular shaft 10, and which is not shown in the drawing, forces the clamp 7 to press, by its periphery,

against a conical part provided at the left end of the tubular shaft 10 and thus ensure the concentric tightening of the clamp 7. To overcome the effect of the spring acting on the rod 9, it suffices to press the 'right end of this rod, terminated by a button 12 to cause the loosening of the clamp 7.

The tubular shaft 10 carries a pulley 13 capable of being driven by eontaet, during the polishing of the, hollow of the stone, by a pulley 14, supported by a .axe, fixed to a support 15, arranged in front of the key face doll 1; the louse 14 which has a groove 16 is driven by a suitable transmission member.
