"Lit médicalisé à géométrie variable"
D~CRIPTION

WO95 / 083l5 ~ ~ 7 2 3 9 7 PCT ~ R9J / 01l03 .
"Variable geometry medical bed"
DESCRIPTION
The present invention relates to a medical bed comprising a rest surface with variable geometry.
The purpose of these beds is to relieve patients suffering in particular from rheumatic diseases, bone or neurological.
We know from US-A-3,112,500, 5,095,562 and DE-C-214 173 medical beds tending towards this goal, comprising bed bases articulated to each other, directly or indirectly, which follow one another along bed. But these known beds do not give full satisfaction because the adjustment possibilities of the geometry are limited. Despite this, the known beds 15 are difficult to store and handle, especially between the different floors of an establishment hospital. They are indeed heavy and bulky.
The object of the present invention is to remedy these disadvantages.
According to the invention, the medical bed comprising a chassis and a rest surface with variable geometry is characterized in that said means allow move at least one of the subsets relative to the other in the direction longitl ~; n ~ 1e of the chassis 25 so as to modulate the longitudinal dimensions of the rest surface.
We thus escape the limitations of structures known where the rest surface consists of a box spring unique to articulated sections. In particular, we can 30 now adapt the geometry of the rest surface to patient size and / or morphology, and / or therapeutic needs.
We certainly know from US-A-2,470,161, no not a bed, but a treatment table in which 35 successive cushions are organized in two sub-sets which can be more or less close together one of the other. But this device is intended to ensure a WOg5 / 0831 ~ PCT ~ Rg ~ / 0ll03 2i72397 2 -comfort relative to successive patients on the treatment table, not to optimize the geometry a continuous sleeping surface consisting of a mattress.
According to a preferential feature of the invention, the sub-assemblies are mounted so removable on the chassis. So when the bed has to be moved, the chassis can be moved separately and each subset. We can also store o separately the chassis and the sub-assemblies.
Each adjustable bed base can be, at least indirectly, articulated along a transverse axis substantially median to means movable in height.
Height adjustment means can be combined 15 to the box spring on either side of this axis to adjust to both the height and the inclination of the box spring around of the axis.
Other features and advantages of the invention will emerge further from the description below, 20 relating to a nonlimiting example.

As shown in Figure 1, the medical bed according to the invention comprises a frame 1 comprising two longitudinal members 2 interconnected by multiple crosspieces 20 3. Feet 4 carry at their lower end swivel castors 6 and are interconnected by stiffeners 7 also connected to the side members 2.
In addition, the bed includes a rest surface 8 intended, as shown in Figures 2 and 3, to 25 receive for example a mattress 9 on which takes places the patient.
According to the invention, the rest surface 8 is subdivided into individual box springs comprising, in the following order from head to foot:
30 head 11, a bust support 12, intended to support the bust of the patient, a pelvis support 13, intended for support the patient in the pelvis region, a thigh support 14 and leg support 16, also supporting the feet.
The headrest and bust support 12 belong to a subset of head 17, while the thigh support 14 and the leg support 16 WO95 / 0831 ~: PCT ~ Rs ~ / 0l103 2172397 4 _ belong to a sub-assembly of foot 18. The support of basin 13 belongs to a subset intermediate 19.
We will start by describing with reference to 5 figures 2 and 5 the sub-assembly of foot 18. I1 includes a frame or frame 21 including two longitudinal elements each have two legs 22 directed downwards and rotatably supporting two rollers 23 which are bearing bearing on the corresponding beam 2, acting as a rail. The sub-assembly of foot 18 is thus rendered displaceable, longitudinally able on the chassis 1. A linear actuator 24 is interposed functionally between frame 1 and frame 21.
The linear actuator 24 comprises a fixed housing 26 15 rigidly to the chassis 1, substantially at equal distance between the side members 2, by means of two rods tubular 27 each extending between the housing 26 and a lug 28 fixed to a respective one of the side members 2.
The rods 27 are prevented from rotating relative to the 20 housing 26 and relative to the legs 28. A lead screw 29 parallel to the side members 2 is supported with possibility of rotation around its axis and translation along its axis by the housing 26. The housing 26 contains a nut 30 (FIG. 8), the 25 internal thread is threaded with the lead screw 29.
The nut 30 is mounted so that it can rotate without possibility of sliding in relation to the housing 26.
The bo ~ tier 26 supports an electric motor 31 to two direction of movement, rotating a pinion conical 25 meshing with conical teeth corresponding formed on the nut 30.
At one of its ends, the lead screw 29 (figure 5) has two flanges 32 defining therebetween a groove 33. A coupling fork 34, open 35 downwards, is fixed under a cross member 36 of the frame 21 to engage around groove 33 between the two flanges 32. Thus, when the motor 31 is put in WO95 / 0831 ~ 2 ~ 7 2 3 ~ 7 pcT ~ Rs3lollo3 -_ - 5 -movement, rotation of the nut 30 in the housing 26 causes a longitudinal displacement of the lead screw 29 relative to frame 1 of the bed and this displacement is transmitted by the coupling fork 34 to the sub-together 18 to move the latter in one direction or in the other along chassis 1 while the rollers 23 roll on the side members 2 acting as rails.
In addition, the sub-assembly 18 is easily removable.
After disconnecting an electrical connection o supplying motors of sub-assembly 18, which will described below, just lift the frame 21 to simultaneously release the rollers 23 relatively to the side members 2 and the coupling fork 34 relative to the throat 33. The replacement of the sub-15 together 18 on the chassis 1 is effected by reverse operations.
A device for guiding up and down 35 is interposed between the leg support 16 and the frame 21 of the sub-assembly 18. The guide device 35 20 comprises two vertical tubular guides 37 fixed to the frame 21 in symmetrical positions on either side of the median longitudinal plane of the bed. In each guide vertical tubular 37 is freely engaged sliding a respective guide rod 38. Both 25 rods 38, stiffened by a cross member 39 which connects, are articulated by their upper end to the leg support 16 along a horizontal axis common transverse 41. For this, the leg support 16 (figure 7) has on its underside for each 30 rod 38 a yoke 42 crossed by a pin 43 which also passes through a terminal ear 44 of the rod 38, engaged in yoke 42.
In addition, the leg support 16 (Figure 2) is connected to the frame 21 by two adjustment devices in 35 height 46 located on either side of axis 41. From preferably the height adjusters 46 Wo95 / OX315 PCT ~ Rg ~ / 011 ~ 3 21723- ~ 7- `
are located as close as possible to the front edge and respectively from the rear edge of the leg support 16.
Each height adjustment device 46 is consisting of a linear actuator identical to 5 the longitudinal displacement actuator 24 except that the lead screw 47 is arranged in an orientation close to the vertical and that it is articulated not easily removable by its end coupling, on the underside of the support o legs 16. For this, the leg support 16 (figure 9) door on its underside, for cha ~ ue device height adjustment 46, a yoke 48 receiving a terminal ear 49 of screw 47 with possibility of relative pivoting around a horizontal axis transverse 51 by means of a journal 50 passing through the two wings of the yoke 48 and the ear 49 of the screw 47.
In addition, the rods 52 (Figure 5) through which the bo ~ tier 53 of actuator 46 is connected to each frame beam 21 are each supported in a bearing 54 fixed to the frame 21 so that the assembly of the actuator 46 can oscillate relative to the frame 21 around the axis 55 of the rods 52.
Thus, with reference to FIG. 2, the guidance in up and down 35 constrains the hinge pin 41, integral with the leg support surface 16 to remain in a vertical transverse plane 56 while the actuators 46, independently adjustable ~ n ~ mment one of the other, jointly determine on the one hand the position of the hinge pin 41 along the plane 56 30 and on the other hand the inclination of the leg support 16 around axis 41. The articulations of the actuators 46 along the axes 51 relative to the leg support 16 and 54 with respect to frame 21 allow the actuators 46 to oscillate depending on the setting.
The thigh support 14 is articulated along an axis horizontal transverse 57 to the adjacent edge of the support legs 16. In addition, near its edge 58 WO9S / 0831 ~ PCT ~ Rg ~ / 01103 ~ 23 ~
opposite axis 57, and therefore directed towards the support of pelvis 13, thigh support 14 is connected to the frame 21 by a height adjustment device 59 consisting by an oscillating linear actuator identical to both 5 actuators 46.
We will now describe with reference to the figures 3, 10 and ll the head sub-assembly 17. It includes a frame 61 similar to frame 21 of the foot sub-assembly 18. In particular, the frame 61 is mounted on a bearing by rollers 62 on the longitudinal members 2 of the chassis l and it is thus movable along the chassis l by means of a linear actuator 63 quite similar to the actuator 24. The sub-assembly 17 can thus be removed from the frame l by simple lifting releasing in 15 at the same time the coupling fork 64 of the two flanges 66 belonging to the mother screw 67 of the linear actuator 63.
In addition, the frame 61 carries a device for guidance up and down 68 and two 20 height adjustment 69 similar to those described in reference to Figures 2 and 5, including their mutual provision. However, these provisions of up and down guidance and height adjustment support not the bust support 12 but a 25 oscillating cradle 71 (see also figure l0) which in turn supports the bust support 12 with a possibility of longitudinal sliding. For this, the bust support 12 is fixed to a frame 72, two of which longitudinal elements 73 each have a light 30 longitudinal 74 forming a slide. Movement longitudinal of the bust support 12 relative to the cradle -71 is co ~ m ~ n ~ é by a linear actuator 76 very similar to those described so far. Both rods 77 supporting the housing 75 of the actuator 76 35 each pass through one of the elongated lights 74 to guide the frame 72 relative to the cradle 71. Each rod 77 is fitted with a washer 78 engaged in the WO 95/0831; PCT / FR9 ~ / 01103 217 ~ 3 ~ 7 light 74 to reduce friction between the light 74 and rod 77. Washer 78 has a groove external in which the two edges are engaged opposites of light 74. Beyond light 74, 5 each rod 77 is supported with the possibility of rotation about its axis in a bearing 79 fixed at cradle 71. In service, the bust support 12, after have been settled in position longitl ~; n ~ le compared at cradle 71, itself adjusted in height and o tilt, is free to pivot on a stroke limited angular around the defined transverse axis 80 by rods 77, to automatically adapt to patient movements and attitudes.
The headrest 11 is freely pivotable around a 15 transverse horizontal axis 81 which is supported in fixed position relative to frame 61 by means of two rigid uprights 82. The axis 81 is offset in the direction opposite the bust support 12. Thus, an edge 83 of the headrest 11 rests freely on the support of 20 bust 12.
The basin support 13 is integral with the chassis to with regard to longitudinal displacements. It is connected to the chassis 1 by an ascending guide device and drop 84 similar to the guiding device up and 25 drop 35 of the sub-assembly 18 except that its tube guide 86 is made integral with the chassis 1. The support 13 is freely articulated at the end upper of rods 87 of guide device 84 along a transverse horizontal axis 88, for example at 30 by means of a clevis, ear and trunnion joint as described for the device goes up and down 35 (figure 7). A height adjustment device 89 consisting of a linear actuator similar to those 24, 46 etc described above has a housing 91 35 fixed to the frame 1 by transverse rods while that its mother screw 92 (see Figure 12) is connected, articulated or not, to a cross member 93 bringing together WO95 / 083l5 ~ ~ 2 3 ~ 7 PCT ~ Rg ~ / 01103 . .
g the two rods 87 of the up and down. As illustrated in Figures 2 and 3, although freely pivoting, the basin support 13 takes on its own inclination consistent with those of the bust support 5 12 and thigh support 14.
As shown in Figure 13, the basin support 13 can be moved down using the actuator 89 to a retracted position then allowing make the bust support 12 and the o thigh support 14. This is possible by adjusting advanced position the head sub-assembly 17 by relative to chassis 1 and bust support 12 by compared to cradle 71. Thus, we shorten the surface of rest, which allows it to be adapted to the size of a child.
Electric motors are supplied with current continuous low voltage through a housing 94 (Figure 1) to which a remote control box 96 that can be put on the 20 available to the patient to allow him to modify itself the geometry of the rest surface 8, or that you can neutralize either by disconnecting it from the housing 94 by either actuating a switch 97 provided for this purpose.
Of course the bed can be fitted with usual protective barriers and gallows. A
traditional cylinder backrest can be installed between the sub-assembly 17 and the chassis 1 to make pivot the sub-assembly 17 substantially around 30 1 axis of the rollers 62 located on the side of the basin support 13. During this movement, the fork coupling 64 is released from the linear actuator 63. When the sub-assembly 17 is brought back into position lying down, the fork 64 automatically resets 35 between the two flanges 66 of the linear actuator 63.

To make a geometry adjustment, the user moves the two sub-longitudinally longitudinally movable assemblies 16 and 17 for place at the desired distance from the sub 5 intermediate assembly 19. In addition, it adjusts height and inclination each base 12, 1 ~, 16, the height of the patient's head being determined by the headrest 11. The basin support 13 is simply adjusted in height consistently with the others box springs, and takes the correct tilt by itself compared to these.
The medical bed according to the invention allows the disabled patient, for example paralyzed, to recover a real mobility and autonomy allowing him, 15 thanks to the different motors, to change position alone, or to perform re-education. The bed becomes a kind of prosthesis.
The arrangement described and shown has the advantage of use only a small number of different components, 20 each used a lot of times in the structure, which reduces the overall cost of the bed.
But of course, the invention is not limited to the examples described and shown.
We could change the number and the mobility 2s relative to the different bed bases. The means for move the sub-assemblies longitudinally and for adjust the height and tilt of the box springs might be different.
