Abstract

Patente de Invenção: <B>"MéTODOS PARA CONVERSãO DE ALCANOS E ALQUENOS INFERIORES EM áLCOOIS E DIóIS"<D>. A presente invenção refere-se a métodos para conversão de alcanos e alquenos inferiores em alcanóis e dióis correspondentes. Nos métodos da presente invenção, um halogênio gasoso, de preferência bromo, é produzido através da decomposição de um haleto de metal em um líquido tendo um ponto de fusão abaixo e um ponto de ebulição acima da temperatura de decomposição do haleto de metal. O líquido preferido é cloreto de ferro fundido, hidratado, mantido em uma temperatura entre cerca de 37- 280°C. O alcano ou alqueno inferior é halogenado em uma reação de fase de gás com o halogênio produzido. O haleto de alquila ou dialeto de alquila é contatado com um hidróxido de metal, de preferência uma solução aquosa de hidróxido de ferro, para regenerar o haleto de metal e produzir o alcanol ou diol inferior correspondente. A presente invenção é particularmente eficiente para converter metano em metanol usando bromo férrico para prover o halogênio.
