Abstract
resumo processo para preparar um poliéter contendo unidades de etilenóxi ligadas por éter carbonato de etileno é polimerizado isoladamente ou juntamente com um outro monômero cíclico, tal como óxido de 1,2-propileno na presença de um catalisador de cianeto de metal duplo. grande parte do carbonato de etileno se adiciona à cadeia para formar um grupo carbonato terminal, que se descarboxila para produzir um grupo hidroxietila no extremo da cadeia de polímero. a polimerização de mais carbonato de etileno à cadeia resulta na formação de unidades de poli(etilenóxi). daí, o processo provê um método para fazer polímeros de poli(etilenóxi) sem a necessidade de polimerizar óxido de etileno. o processo é útil para fazer poliéteres que sejam úteis como polímeros absorventes de água, tensoativos e matérias-primas para poliuretanos. o processo também é útil para aumentar o teor de hidroxilas primárias de um poliéter. 1/1
