"áCIDO NUCLEICO ISOLADO, POLIPEPTìDEO, VETOR, CéLULA HOSPEDEIRA, ORGANISMO NãO HUMANO, E, MéTODOS DE FABRICAR UMA CéLULA HOSPEDEIRA RECOMBINANTE, DE PRODUZIR UM POLIPEPTìDEO, DE FABRICAR PELO MENOS UMA SESQUITERPENO SINTASE, E DE FABRICAR PELO MENOS UM TERPENóIDE". A invenção diz respeito a sesquiterpeno sintases e aos métodos de sua produção e uso. Em uma forma de realização, a invenção fornece ácidos nucleicos que compreendem uma seq³ência de nucleotídeo como aqui descrito que codifica pelo menos uma sesquiterpeno sintase. Em uma outra forma de realização, a invenção também fornece sesquiterpeno sintases e métodos de fabricar e usar estas enzimas. Por exemplo, as sesquiterpeno sintases da invenção podem ser usadas para converter farnesil-pirofosfato aos vários sesquiterpenos oxigenados e alifáticos incluindo valenceno, biciclogermacreno, cubebol e delta-cadineno.
