Abstract

"CONJUNTO DE CHASSI DE VEìCULO". Um conjunto de carroceria e chassi veicular inclui um elemento estrutural tipo canaleta fechada tendo uma porção interior que pode ser pressurizada sob certas condições, tais como durante uma colisão, para proporcionar resistência elevada e absorver energia. Um dispositivo de pressurização se comunica com a porção interior e contém uma quantidade de um material químico que, quando devidamente excitado, expandirá rapidamente para uma forma gasosa. Um ignitor ou outra estrutura é previsto para excitar o material químico contido dentro do dispositivo de pressurização sob condições predeterminadas, tais como quando ocorre uma colisão. A expansão do material químico para uma forma gasosa rapidamente aumenta a pressão de ar dentro do elemento estrutural tipo canaleta fechada, dessa forma proporcionando resistência adicional ao mesmo para absorver energia durante a colisão. Embora a deformação do elemento estrutural tipo canaleta fechada possa ocorrer como resultado da expansão do material químico, é a contenção dos gases altamente pressurizados dentro do elemento estrutural tipo canaleta fechada que aumenta a resistência do mesmo durante a colisão.
