Description

<EMI ID=2.1>

The present invention relates to improvements made to a process for the continuous galvanization of metal sheets, a process taken up in Belgian patent n [deg.] 840. 822.
It has been described in this main patent a continuous galvanizing process for metal sheets, characterized in that, before its introduction into the zinc bath, the sheet is brought into contact with a rotating cylinder,
1 rotating around its longitudinal axis, said cylinder being partially <EMI ID = 1.1>
protruding from the edges thereof, is introduced into the zinc bath, and in that the contact between the sheet and the cylinder is removed only after leaving the sheet of said bath.
The object of this improvement, in particular in the context of the galvanizing process mentioned above, is to maintain the cylinder around a part of which the sheet to be galvanized is wound, in a state of sufficient cleanliness so that no zinc particles cannot be deposited on the face of the sheet not to be galvanized. This improvement is however likely to be used with other coating metals, in this case aluminum.
or tin.
According to a first variant of the invention, this result is obtained by removing the liquid zinc, which tends to be deposited on the ends of the cylinder which, extending somewhat axially the width of the sheet, are found periodically and alternately in the bath. of zinc, then out of that same bath. It should be noted here in passing that during the galvanizing operation, the sheet can move axially on the cylinder, which accentuates the need for the removal of the zinc at the ends of the cylinder.
Several methods can be advantageously used to remove the zinc deposited on the cylinder. One can for example use a solid member such as a brush or a scraper which causes the displacement of the zinc towards the edges of the cylinder or the bottom of its ends, this displacement comprising a component preferably in the opposite direction of the direction of rotation of the cylinder. .
It is also advantageous to use a gaseous fluid to blow the liquid zinc away towards the edges of the cylinder or the bottom of its ends. This procedure also allows a certain adjustment of the zinc blowing conditions.
According to a second variant of the invention, the same result
is obtained by making use of a cylinder of which at least the cylindrical outer wall is made of a material "not taking galvanization", that is to say, not reacting with it chemically or physically and not wetting it is , at a temperature at least equal to the melting temperature of the zinc. for example, certain silicones, silicates - aluminates, asma coating, are very suitable for this purpose
The above process has been described as being able to be used to ensure the cleanliness of the ends of a cylinder partially submerged in
<EMI ID = 2.1>
(Refinement also covers the case where instead of zinc it is made wise of tin or liquid aluminum for the coating of sheets on one side.
CLAIMS
