Abstract
Process comprises blowing oxygen and a fluid having an endothermic reaction through a coaxial tuyere arranged beneath the melt surface in a converter opt. with a non oxidising gas being blowing in via a separate tuyere to obtain good mixing. A lime rich slag then collects iron oxide (iron oxidised by the oxygen) while the non ferrous elements, esp. Ni and Co become enriched (20 up to 30% concn.) in the melt. Blow is much faster than in prior apt. and consumes much less oxygen.
