<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
Si l'on continue à faire pivoter l'ouvrant
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

Pivot lock for pivoting windows.
The subject of the present invention is a pivot for pivoting windows comprising two axes of rotation around which the opening is successively pivoted, as well as an inaccessible latch placed inside the pivot.
As is known, the pivoting takes place first around the first axis in order to release the sash from the frame and to rotate it by a determined angle, for example 90 degrees or a lesser angle if the it is desired to limit this first pivoting to an angle corresponding to a positive ventilation of the window, and then around the second pivot axis until the sash has executed a rotation of 180 degrees, allowing - both to easily clean the window from inside the building.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The pivot according to the invention, suitable more especially for heavy windows of large dimensions, is distinguished from other pivots with two axes of rotation by its great simplicity of construction and the small number of different parts which constitute it.
According to the invention, the pivot comprises a plate fixed to the frame and a plate fixed to the cover, which are in direct contact with each other, a pin integral with the frame plate, centered on the second axis rotation, a cylindrical block which is centered on the first axis of rotation, housed in a bore of the plate of the opening and provided with an eccentric bore intended to receive the journal integral with the plate of the frame, as well as 'a lock chamfered at both ends and provided with a stud intended to move in a curved groove of the frame plate.
This lock is able to slide in a groove of the cylindrical block, so as to make this block integral with the plate 'of the frame during the pivoting disengaging the opening from the frame. in order to reach the determined pivot angle, the plate of the opening leaf then rotating around the said block, and, by displacement imposed on the lock by blique faces cooperating with the chamfers, then making this block integral with the plate of the opening while the pivoting continues, which can only be done around the pin fixed to the frame plate.
It has already been proposed to provide in pivots with two axes of rotation a latch actuated by hand or by a spring and capable of carrying out blockings below the pivot, and the principle of moving the latch, in pivot pins. this kind, by contact between bevelled faces of the lock and fixed oblique faces has already been applied, however under conditions
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
different from those described above.
The plate of the opening, as well as the cylindrical block are each provided with a slot arranged in a plane through which passes the axis of the center of the bores with which these parts are provided. The plate of the opening further comprises a perforation passing through the slot and receiving a screw. This is intended to directly clamp the cylindrical block in the bore of the plate and indirectly the journal fixed on the frame plate in the bore of the cylindrical block. Thus, by tightening the single screw, differentiated braking of the pivoting around the two axes of rotation is achieved. which constitutes a new application of a principle self.
The accompanying drawings show by way of example a preferred form of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a plan view of the interior face of a plate which attaches to the frame; the rod 2 is a section along the line II-II of FIG. 1; fig. 3 is a plan view of the outer face of a plate which is fixed to the opening; fig. 4 is a section taken along the broken line IV-IV of FIG. 3; figs. 5 and 6 show, seen in plan and from the front, a pin intended to be fixed on the frame plate; fig. 7 shows a cylindrical block seen in plan; fig. 8 is a section along the line VIII-VIII of FIG. 7;
figs. 9 and 10 show the lock seen from different sides, and

figs. 11 to 13 show a pivot in the closed state (pin 11), after pivoting of the plate of the leaf by 90 (fig. 12) and after pivoting of the latter by 1800 (pin 13).
The pivot has two plates which are in direct contact with each other, a plate 1 fixing to the frame and a plate 2 fixing to. opening, so that only one domed face protrudes from the plane of the frames towards the inside of the window.
The plate 1 (figs. 1 and 2) has a groove 3, intended to receive the tenon 4 of a journal 5 (figs. 5 and 6) which is fixed to the plate by means of screws passing through the perforations 6 of the plate. and taking in the holes 7 of a collar 8 constituting the lower part of the journal 5, the center of which constitutes the second pivot axis. The plate 1 also has a curved groove 9 which is centered on the second pivot axis and has at the end 10 a straight part.
Plate 2 (figs. 3 and 4) has a large bore
11 which is centered on the first pivot axis and passes through the plate furthermore. Over part of its height, the bore is provided with a clearance 12 with oblique face 13 and a clearance 14 with faces 15 and 16. The plate 2 also comprises an axial slot 17 with clamping screw 18.
In the bore 11 of the plate 2 is engaged a cylindrical block 19 (fig. 7 and 8) which serves both as a brake block and as a journal around which the opening is pivoted around the first. axis. This block is provided at the bottom with an axial groove 20 and has an eccentric bore 21 with slot 22, intended to receive the journal 5.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
The sliding lock 23 (figs. 9 and 10) consists of a rod of square section, chamfered at the ends 24 and 25 and carrying near the end 24 a stud 26. This lock is housed in the axial groove 20 of the block cylindrical 19 and the stud 26 is engaged in the curved groove 9 of the plate 1.
When the window is closed, the plates 1 and 2 'coincide by covering each other completely, as visible in fig. 11 which is a plan view of the outer face of the plate 2. The stud 26 of the lock 23 is then engaged in the straight part 10 of the groove, curve 9 of the plate 1, the end 25 of the lock gives against the bore 11 of the plate 2 and the end 24 of the lock, which protrudes the outline of the cylindrical block 19 when the other end is withdrawn inside this block, is received in the recess 12.
To open the window, the opening is rotated in the direction of arrow 27, the plate 2 rotates around the cylindrical block 19 and the end 24 of the lock moves in the recess 12 towards the oblique face 13 ending the release. Before the swivel has reached the angle of
90 degrees, the oblique face of the end 24 of the latch contacts the oblique face 13 of the undercut and further pivoting causes the latch to slide into its groove 20, the end 25 enters the undercut 14 and the stud leaves the straight part 10 of the curved groove 9 of the plate 1.
When the pivoting of the plate 2 has reached 90 degrees as shown in fig. 12, the end 25 of the latch faces against the face 15 of the recess 14 and the pin 26 is at the beginning of the curved part of the groove 9, the end 24 of the latch being retracted and in contact with the bore.
11 of plate 2. If you continue to rotate the leaf
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
in the direction of the arrow 27 'the latch 23 secures the block 19 with the plate 2 and the pivoting must be done around the second axis, therefore around the journal 5 fixed on the plate 1, and the pin 26 moves in the groove curve 9, until the sash has rotated 180 degrees as shown in fig. 13.
In this position, the sash can be completely disengaged from the frame, for example to replace a broken window. It suffices for this purpose to remove the screws passing through the perforations 6 of the plate 1 and taking in the holes 7 (figs. 5, 6) of the journal 5; we can then slide the tenon 4 in the groove 3 of the plate 1 to separate the plate 2 from the plate 1.
The pivoting of the leaf is braked by clamping the block 19 in the bore 11 by means of a screw 18 (FIG. 3) at. narrowing the radial slot 17. The tightening exerted by the screw 18 also acts on the eccentric bore 21 (fig. 7) with radial slot 22 of the block 19. It follows that during the first pivoting movement of 90 degrees, the braking is noticeably more powerful than during the second 90 degree swing movement.
Because of this differentiated braking, the sash is pivoted back to the 180 degree pivoted position (fig. 13) around the pin 5 until the position of fig. 12 is reached. If the pivoting is continued, the end 25 of the latch 23 is forced by the face 16 of the recess 14 to retract, the end 24 of the latch returns to the recess 12 and the pin 26 the straight part 10 of the groove 9, so that the pivoting of the plate 2 takes place again around the block 19.
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
Of course, the invention is not limited to the embodiment which has been described and shown by way of example, and one would not depart from its scope by making modifications.
