D'autres caractéristiques de l'invention apparaîtront au cours de la description qui va suivre faite en se référant au dessin annexé donné uniquement à titre d'exemple et dans lequel: la Fig. 1 est une vue en plan de dessus d'un brûleur à rayonnement auquel est appliquée 1-invention; la Fig. 2 est une vue latérale en élévation de ce brû- leur ;

la Fig. 3 est une vue en plan du dessous de ce brûleur la Fig; est une vue en bout prise dans le sens de la ligne 4-4 de la Fig. 2 ; la Fig. 5 est une vue en bout prise dans le sens de la ligne 5-5 de la Fig. 2 ; la Fig. 6 est une vue en coupe prise suivant la ligne 6-6 de la Fig, 1 ; la Fig, 7 est une vue partielle prise suivant la ligne 7-7 de la Fig. 6 ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

Burner.
The present invention relates to a gas burner generating infrared rays and relates more particularly to an infrared ray generator which is particularly suitable for grilling food.
The invention proposes in particular to provide a radiation burner which does not require the use of a venturi and which is inexpensive to manufacture.
Other characteristics of the invention will become apparent during the description which follows, given with reference to the appended drawing, given solely by way of example and in which: FIG. 1 is a top plan view of a radiation burner to which 1-invention is applied; Fig. 2 is a side elevational view of this burner;
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view of this burner; FIG; is an end view taken taken along line 4-4 of FIG. 2; Fig. 5 is an end view taken taken along line 5-5 of FIG. 2; Fig. 6 is a sectional view taken along line 6-6 of FIG, 1; FIG. 7 is a partial view taken along the line 7-7 of FIG. 6;
Fig. 8 is a sectional view taken along line 8-8 of FIG. 6; Fig. 9 is a partial view taken along line 9-9 of FIG. 6; Fig. 10 is a perspective view of the deflector shown in FIGS. 8 and 9.
The burner shown comprises a central plate 10 having an opening 12, on one side of this plate, an element 14 in which a gaseous fuel arrives, an incandescent element 16 on the other side of the plate. As shown the element into which the gas arrives is located above the plate 10 and the incandescent element is located below this plate.
The upper member 14 into which the gas arrives is preferably made of a planar sheet which is embossed to form an elongated domed portion 18 which connects with the marginal lateral planar portions 20 and with a marginal planar portion. 22 end.
The incandescent element 16 located below is preferably constituted by one or more grids having the same mesh dimensions or dimensions of
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
different meshes, which, when stamped, form an elongated domed portion 26 which connects with the flat marginal side portions 30 and opposite flat marginal portions 32 and 34. As can be seen in Figs. 6 and 7, when the element 14 into which the gas arrives, and the incandescent element are assembled on the opposite sides of the plate 10, the fuel admitted through the open end 35 of the element 14 of the inlet of the fuel, flows through opening 12 to the incandescent element 16.
In order to distribute the gas evenly over the grids, a deflector 36 is provided, which can be seen more clearly in FIG. 10. This baffle comprises a bottom wall 38, side walls 40, and an end wall 42. The side and end walls of the baffle are bent to form flanges 44 for destiny. born to be fixed on the underside of the plate 10.
Bottom wall 38 and side walls 40 have gauge slots 46 and end wall 42 has gauge opening 48. The end of the baffle facing the inlet end of the burner is fully open. . A portion of the metal which has been cut to form the opening 12 is bent upwards to form a deflector 50 inclined forward,
To ensure the assembly of the elements, the lateral marginal parts 20 and a marginal end part 22 are extended downwards as shown at 54 and 56 respectively and inwardly as shown at 58 and 60 respectively, to enclose and contain both the side and end edges of the plate 10 and the side 30 and end 32 marginal portions of the grids.
This is clearly shown in Figs. 3, 6 and 7. If desired, the marginal parts
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
nales 20 and 22 of element 14 are spot welded 'oomme shown at 61.
This way of securing the elements considerably reduces the cost of manufacture since it does not necessitate the use of continuous welding or other means to achieve a gas-tight peripheral seal. This is because any gas that might leak between the marginal parts of the element
14 from the gas inlet, and from the plate 10, are directed towards the adjoining parts of the grids where the leakage gas burns in the same way as the gas which is deliberately admitted through the opening 12. This makes possible the use of a spot welding process instead of the more expensive continuous welding or brazing or other methods of making a gas-tight junction.
To close the lower part of the element 14 which extends beyond the edge of the plate 10, on the side of the gas inlet., And / the marginal part 34 of the grille, a pro- length 62 which comes into contact with the plate 10 (Fig,
6) and which comprises an offset lip 64 which covers the underside of the marginal part 34 of the grid. The extension 62 is also spot welded at 63.
By making the convex part 18 so that it extends over the entire length of the plate 10, a reinforcement is produced which makes it possible to use thin sheet metal instead of parts obtained by molding; this further reduces the cost price and the weight of the apparatus.
As is known, venturis are usually used in order to ensure the suction or the entrainment of
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
combustion air. Applicants have found that the construction described above, in which the inlet opening is semi-cylindrical and disposed beyond the inlet end of the combustion grate, functions in a very satisfactory. This further reduces the cost of manufacture.
So far no theoretical explanation has been found for this phenomenon, but practical tests show the effectiveness of the arrangement adopted.
Of course, the invention is not limited to the embodiment shown and described which has only been given by way of example.
