<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>
<Desc/Clms Page number 11>
<Desc/Clms Page number 12>
<Desc/Clms Page number 13>
<Desc/Clms Page number 14>

Figs. 14, 16 and 18 show time-distance diagrams according to fig. 12, with indication of the position of the crank and the guide sleeve when the crank occupies its respective positions at 270, 360 and 90.
The tig.l shows a press comprising, as known hitherto, a profiled shoe, with a fixed relative position, for the control of the ejector mounted on the carriage of the press. In Fig.l, we denote by 1 the crank shaft, by 2 the eccentric plate of the crank, by 3 the connecting rod, by 4 the press carriage mechanism driven by a back-and-forth movement. comes by the crank, by 5 a part of the frame of the press with the stamping die, by 6 the punch of the press, this punch and the carriage forming in this case a single piece, by 7 an ejector finger which was part of the punch 6, by 8 the enlarged head of the finger 7, by 9 a recess formed in the body 11 of the carriage to receive the head 8 of the finger, by 10 a spring which, normally,
maintains the finger 7 and la.tête 8 in the position shown in fig.1.
The body 11 of the carriage carries, in a longitudinal passage,
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
an ejection rod 12 which is in contact with the free end of an arm 13 of an angled lever which can pivot about an axis 15 carried by the carriage 4. The free end of the second arm 16 of this bent lever 14 is in contact.
. by a roller 17 with the active face of a profiled shoe 18 which can be moved during the adjustment of the machine, so that the moment when the effect of the control takes place can be shifted in time to a certain degree . While the machine is running, the profiled shoe is not moved.
When the members occupy the position shown in fig.1, the roller 17 moves in the direction of arrow 19 when the crank 1,2 continues to rotate in the direction of arrow 20. The carriage thus moves away from the die 5. As soon as the roller 17 engages on the ramp or part of the transie ', tion of the profiled shoe 18, the bent lever 14 is moved angularly. The free end of the arm 13 is thus forced against the ejection rod 12, which moves the ejector finger 7 against the pressure exerted by the spring 10 on the head 8 of this finger. As a result, the front end of the ejector finger 7 protrudes on the punch-6 which moves back relative to the die, so that the finger 7 'releases the stamped part 21 from the punch, which adheres to it.
Fig. 2 shows a time-path diagram in which curve 22 represents the stroke H of the carriage
11 from the position shown in fig.l as a function of the angular position R of the crank shaft 1. If this position of the shaft, shown in fig. l, is considered to be that for which the angle is equal to zero and the stroke also equal to zero, the path traveled by the carriage 11, when the shaft 1 continues to turn, increases to the value H after the shaft has rotated 180 (HTP) and decreases again between 180 and 360.
The curve
23 shows the distance traveled by the ejector.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
the larger stroke is based on the position shown in fig.l, the smaller than the stroke of the carriage, as the ejector moves at the beginning with the carriage and begins to move more slowly, at point 24, as the carriage so that there is relative movement between the ejector and the. cart. This relative movement between the two parts lasts only until the point 24 of the curve 23 is reached. At this moment, the roller 17 has passed the transition ramp of the profiled shoe 18. A relative movement in the opposite direction then occurs during the period between point 26 of curve 23 and point 27 of curve
22.
During this time, the roller 17 rolls in the opposite direction on the transition ramp of the shoe 18.
The points 24 and 27 occupy symmetrical locations with respect to the apex of the curve 22. They can, by the displacement of the profiled shoe 18 to the right of FIG. 1, be brought closer to the apex of the curve 22 or, by displacement of the shoe to the left of fig.l, be further away 'from the top of this curve. But the positions of points 24 and 27, where the relative movement of the controlled ejector begins and ends, remain symmetrical with respect to the dead points of the movements of the carriage, these dead points being at the angular positions 0 and 180 of the crank.
As the control effect by the profiled shoe 18 is produced by the movement of the carriage, this shoe can only produce a zero control effect at the neutral point of the movement of the carriage and only a reduced effect near this point.
For the device, described below and making - -; the object of the invention, the control effect is independent of the position of the mechanism which carries the auxiliary element to be controlled and which is actuated by a crank.
Fig.3 pmotre, by way of example, one embodiment. tion of the new device. The press, shown in fig. 3, is
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
differs from that of fig. 1 by the fact that instead of the fixed profiled shoe 18 the press carriage mechanism carries an oscillating cam 28 and that the connecting rod 3 comprises an arm 34, curved in the form of a beak, the cam 28 and arm 34 being interconnected by means 30, 32 adapted to move cam 28 depending on the position of arm 34.
For the description of this example, in order to facilitate understanding, the initial position is adopted as the neutral position of the carriage having advanced after its active or stamping stroke and the angular position of the drawing is adopted in correlation. crank shaft at 0 as shown in fig. 7.
The oscillating cam 28 can pivot relative to the mechanism 4 by means of an axis 29 on which the cam is wedged.
. On this axis is also fixed a jointed fishplate 30, by a pivot 31, at the free end of another fishplate 32.
The other end of this fishplate 32 is articulated, by a pivot 33, to the arm 34, integral with the connecting rod 3.
The operation of the device of FIG. 3 is as follows. From the position shown in fig. 3, the crankshaft rotates in the direction of arrow 30.
The eccentric plate 2 thus rises from its middle position, shown in fig. 3, so that the pivot 33, established at the free end of the arm 34, moves on an arc of a circle whose center 35 is located to the axis of the member which connects the connecting rod 3 to the carriage 11 and whose radius is equal to the distance between this center 35 and the axis of the pivot 33.
The movement of the pivot 33 around the center 35 is done in an anti-clockwise direction (direct direction).
At the same time, the carriage 11 is moved from its rear dead center (H.T.P.) towards the die.
When the crankshaft has turned 90, the carriage, the crankshaft and the control device, together with the cam 28, occupy the position shown in fig. 5
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
that is to say that the carriage 11 has traveled half of its forward stroke while the cam 28 is displaced angularly around its axis of rotation through the intermediary. diary of the ribs 30 and 32 and of the pivot 33, in the direction 'direct, this pivot 33 moving on an arc of a circle to the left of fig.3. The roller 17 thus moves on the part of the cam 28 which corresponds to a circular arc having. the smallest radius and which is part of the periphery of the cam.
As a result, during this quarter turn, the angled lever 14 and the ejection rod 12 are not moved relative to the carriage. The carriage 11 and the rod 12 together perform a quarter of the stroke of the carriage but do not move relative to each other.
On the time (H) -path (R) diagram of fig. 4 and 6, the position of the press members in fig. 3 corresponds to the point of the curve at R = 180 in fig. 4 and the position of the press members in fig.5, corresponds to the point of the curve at R = 270 in fig.6.
. There is no relative movement between the carriage and the ejector during the 90 ° rotation of the crank, that is to say from the position of fig. 3. up to that of fig.5, so that the curves of movement of these] two organs overlap.
When the crankshaft continues to rotate from the position of fig. 5 in the direction of arrow 20, we. reached, after a further rotation of 90, the position of fig. 7. The arm 34 of the connecting rod 3 has moved, during this quarter turn, in such a way that the pivot
33 has retreated around its center of rotation 35 in the direction. indirect.
The carriage has, under these conditions, advanced on half of its stroke and the relative movement of the pivot 33 with respect to the axis 2: of the cam 28, via the fishplates
30,32, has the effect that the oscillating cam 28 is returned to its
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
position shown in fig.3, the roller 17 having not left the part of the periphery of the cam formed by an arc of a circle having the smallest radius. Fig. 7 therefore shows an ejection rod 12 which has not moved and the diagram
8 shows that after a rotation of the crank shaft up to position R: 360 or 0 there has not been a relative slip between the carriage at its front dead center when the work
21 is definitely stamped.
By comparing fig. 7 after a rotation of the crank of 1800 and fig. 9 after a rotation of the crank of 2700 we see what happens during the third, quarter turn of the crank shaft. . The carriage backs up on. half of its travel from the neutral point before the latter by moving away from the die and the arm 34 moves back the pivot 33 and turn the cam 28, via the ribs
30, 32, with an amplitude such in the indirect direction that the part of the periphery of the cam 28 which has the largest radius comes into contact with the roller 17. As a result, the angled lever 14 moves in the indirect direction and actuates the ejector 7 so that the stamped part 21 is released from the poir.çon 6 of the press.
Fig. 10 shows, therefore, that in the position
R = 2700 of the crank there is an interval between the curve
22 indicating the position of the carriage and the curve 23 corresponding to the position of the ejector. From the position R = 180 of the crank begins the movement of the ejector rod 12 which, as shown by curve 23, moves behind the carriage 4 from the left to the right in fig. .9, so that the ejector 7 comes out more and more out of the punch 6 of the press until at the position R = 270 of the crank the interval between curves 22 and 23 reaches a maximum ce which releases the stamped part 21 from said punch.
During the last quarter turn of the crankshaft
<Desc / Clms Page number 10>
we obtain the passage from its position 4 270 (fig. 9) to the position at 360 which corresponds to that of fig. 3 for which
R is equal to 360 or 0. The oscillating cam 28 then returns to its position of fig.3 and the ejector rod 12 returns to its initial position so that the spring 10 can also force the ejector 7 to its initial position.
As visible on the diagram in fig. 10, the curve
23 again covers curve 22. The relative movement of 1 $ ejector in this angular zone is so rapid; that it reaches the end of its stroke long before the wagon
It has reached its rear dead center.
It follows from the foregoing that the movements of the ejector can be modified by the choice of the shape of the profile or the periphery of the control cam 28 and that they are independent of the movement or of the position of the carriage, unlike what has happened so far.
When, for example and as shown in fig. 9, the .came 28 is in contact with the roller 17 not by its circumference shown in solid lines but indeed with its periphery shown in broken lines, the stamped part is released. much later of the press punch 6.
A comparison between the time-path diagrams of Figs. 2 and 10 shows the advantage obtained with the new device for controlling the movement of the ejector, this advantage residing in the fact that the latter does not have to be brought beforehand to an active position and is not dependent on the movement of the carriage of the press, this ejector being only moved in the interval in which it must fulfill its functions to perform these, ,, its movement being controlled. The rate of this movement can be chosen at will in the sense that its amplitude can be lengthened or shortened for any period of time and that said movement can act faster or slower.
<Desc / Clms Page number 11>
Finally, the intervention of a control process of determined speed can be offset at will in time with respect to the movement of the carriage using the new device. As proof, the ordering of a guide sleeve has been described below.
The device shown in fig.ll corresponds essentially to that of fig.3 with the following differences.
The auxiliary element is not constituted by an ejector but rather by a guide sleeve 36 which surrounds the punch 37 of the press and which must be moved in such a way that it enters the die 5 before the punch. view to form a guide for it when the punch engages in the die and to delimit, together with the punch, the free space which remains in the die and which determines the final shape of the stamped part 21, this sleeve being released from the die at the same time as the press punch.
The carriage 4 has, like that of fig.3, a passa-. longitudinal ge which ends in the punch 37, before reaching the front face thereof through a blind hole.
In this passage is housed a single rod 38 which has at its front end engaged in the punch a hole trans =. versal serving as a housing for a pin 39 which tra-. pours two slots 40, 41 connecting the longitudinal passage in which the rod 38 is engaged with the external face of the punch 37, these slots being opposite one another and extending in the longitudinal direction of said passage . The ends of the pin 39 are engaged in the guide sleeve 36, so that the latter is rigidly connected to the rod 38 to slide therewith.
The slots 40 and 41 have a length such that it. allow the desired sliding of the guide sleeve 36 in the longitudinal direction of the punch 37 and the part of the shank, which is in fig. 11 to the left of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 12>
pin 39, has a length so small that it allows said sleeve to exceed the punch, by sliding, by the maximum desired amount.
The actuation of the rod 38 takes place, as in fig. 3. using the angled lever 14, the movement of which is produced by an oscillating cam 28 connected, by fish plates 30 and 32 to the movable arm 34 of the connecting rod 3 ..
'
In the same way that there is provided in FIG. 3 a return for the elector 7 by means of a spring 10 housed in a cavity of the carriage and acting on the head 8 of said ejector 7 to bring it back. Here as well as the ejection rod to their inactive position, there is also provided in this case a return for the rod 38 to return it to its position shown in Fig. 11, but this return has not been indicated on this figure * because it is similar to that of figs. 1 and 3.
If we compare figs.3 and 11 we see that the cam 28 of fig.11 has the same shape as that of fig.
.but that its angular position is offset from that which it occupies in fig.3. This offset of the cam 28 causes the guide sleeve 36 to be moved relative to the punch during the advance or active stroke of. the latter while for the mechanism of fig.3 the movement :. relative of the ejector rod 12 produced by the same cam with the same control device and for the same press takes place only during the return stroke.
Figs. 11, 13, 15 and 17 show, like Figs. 3,5,7 and 9 for the ejector, the positions occupied by the moving parts of the press and of the new control device when it is this is the guide sleeve. Likewise, figs.
12,14,16 and 18 show time-distance diagrams with the positions of the carriage and of the guide sleeve at the start of the rotation of the crank and after a rotation of 90,
180 270 and 360 of it.
<Desc / Clms Page number 13>
From the initial carriage position, when the crank is at its angular position of 0, the crankshaft begins to rotate in the direction of arrow 20 until it has reached its angular position of 90 ( fig. 13). During this quarter turn, the cam 28 rotates, like that used for the ejector, in the direct direction.
While the ga @ and 17 is in contact, in fig.ll, with the cam 28 at a point for which the radius of the cam is the smallest, this roller
17 rests, in fig. 13, on a point of the periphery of the cam where the radius of the latter is the greatest. - It follows that the rod 38 is moved by the elbow lever 14 and that the guide sleeve 36 is moved to the left, advancing the punch 37 of the press while the latter is advancing, into the die.
Fig. 14 shows the movement of the guide sleeve bypassing the shape of the curve 42 in broken lines which represents the time-path curve of the guide sleeve 36 with respect to the curve 43 in solid lines which represents the curve time-path traveled by punch 37.
The amplitude of the advance of the guide sleeve relative to the punch after a rotation of the crank shaft of 90 corresponds, in fig. 13, to the distance existing between the face 44 of the carriage and the front face 45 of the sleeve. guide and in fig. 14 to the vertical distance (difference of the ordinates) between curves 42. and 43 when the abscissa of the angular position R of the crank shaft corresponds to 90.,
A comparison between the two figures 13 and 15 shows that, during the second quarter turn of the crank, the cam returns to its position of fig. 11, which returns the guide sleeve to its initial position, while the faces 44 and 45,
as visible at 46 in fig. 15 and on tig.ll, are in contact.
The subsequent shape of the punch and the
<Desc / Clms Page number 14>
command $ is shown by curve 43, shown in fig. 16, and 18, which covers the curve 42, i.e. no relative movement occurs between the punch and the guide sleeve until the angular position of 3600 (= 0) crankshaft is reached. The same effect is observed when we interpret figs. 15,17 and 11 based on the explanations given above.
Instead of using fish plates 30, 32 it is possible to establish the connection between the arm 34 and the axis of the casilating cam 28 by a rack control, the rack being '. articulated for example by means of the pivot 33 to the arm 34 and 'meshing with a pinion wedged on the axis 29 of the cam 28.'
In this case, the cam and the pinion can also be in one piece which can rotate freely around a pivot which replaces the axis 29.
Instead of the pivot 33, which is hinged 32 or instead of the rack, is fixed at a point on the arm 34, it is possible to mount thereon a perforated disc in which holes can be engaged. and fixed the pivot
33. The possibility of adjustment of the device can thus be considerably improved, in addition to the possibility of moving the oscillating cam 28.
It follows from the foregoing that the new control device as described makes it possible to control the movement of auxiliary elements, such as ejectors provided on the carriage of the press or guide sleeves for the punch of the press, added to crank-actuated mechanisms with a desired motion characteristic, with a desired time interval and in any position in time, with respect to the motion of the crank-actuated mechanisms and with respect to the motion '' of that -this. ,
