<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

Improvements to handle bags,
The present invention relates to bags and more left or freely to the handle devices that they are made to include.
A type of bag commonly referred to as a shopping bag is widely used today.
This bag is usually made of paper, it comprises two main side walls to each of which is attached a loop constituting a handle this loop is arranged in the vicinity of the opening
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
of the bag and the loops of one and the other walls are located in via 11. screw when the edges of these walls are brought in contact, so that one can pass the hand through the two loops to carry the bag, The loops in question normally add 125 mm to 150 mm to the total height of the bag,
As the bag itself frequently has a height of at least 35 cm, its handling often becomes inconvenient,
The invention relates to a bag of the kind comprising two side walls facing each other, an opening determined by the edges or marginal ones of these walls and a clean loop to form a handle fixed to the area of each wall adjacent to the wall. 'opening to protrude above the latter, which bag is remarkable in that it comprises auxiliary handle devices constituted by two parts facing the marginal areas of the walls,
each of these parts being arranged between the extracts of one of the loops and each part being delimited by a free edge of the wall arranged parallel to the opening,
The appended drawing, given by way of example, will make it possible to better understand the invention, the characteristics that it has and the advantages that it is likely to provide @

Fig. 5 is a partial section on a large scale of the zsao of FIG. 4 in the closed position.
Fig, 6 is a partial elevational view of a fourth embodiment,
In fig. 1, the reference 10 denotes a bag of the conventional type, made of paper or the like and comprising two side walls 11 with an opening 12. In the vicinity of this opening, the marginal zone 13 of the walls 11 has been folded inwardly and at each of these walls, a loop 14 has been attached to form a handle. The ends of this loop can for example be fixed by gluing between the two thicknesses of the folded part 13.
The loops 14 are advantageously made of a fairly rigid material, similar to the rope, so as to be kept in a vertical position above the water opening.,
In accordance with the invention, a partial cut has been made in each of the walls of the titi flap bag 15 suitable for determining an opening for passage of the hand, this cutting being carried out in the part of the wall considered situated between the ends of the loop 14. As will show each flap 15 has a cut edge 16 parallel to the opening of the bag, two side edges 17 determined by a line of perforation 18 and an uncut upper edge 19 around which it is intended to be folded.
When it is desired to use the auxiliary handle device, the flaps 15 are pressed so as to completely detach the edges 17 from the walls of the bag, then the flaps are folded around the edges 19 forming the fold lines, making them. pass through the openings thus determined. The effective height of the bag can thus be reduced in a considerable hut, for example from 12 to 18 cm. Further, the use of such an auxiliary handle device results in a realistic closure.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
effective opening of the bag. Additional closure devices 20 can also be provided for this purpose, if desired.
Er fig. 2 and 3 there are provided in the walls 11 of the sao two openings 21 for passage of the hand, located opposite each other, as well as a reinforcing and closing member consisting of a strip 22 in paper or other soft material. One 23 of the ends of the strip 22 is fixed, for example by gluing, against the inner face of the marginal zone 13, between the ends of one of the loops 14. The strip is oriented upwards from its end 23 and its length is such that it can be folded around the zone or part 13 to which it is fixed, by making it pass through the openings 21.
The strip 22 has an end tongue 24 suitable for projecting through the opening of the other wall of the bag and this tongue 24 is provided at each end with foldable shoulders 25 which allow it to be retained in this position, which corresponds when closing the bag. It is understood that the width of the tongue 24 (including shoulders @ 25) is slightly greater than that of the openings, @
The. variant of fig. 4 and 5 is very similar to the embodiment of figs 2 and 3.
However in this case there is provided a strip 26, one end 27 of which is fixed to the inner face of one of the marginal zones 13, between the ends of the corresponding loop 14, this strip being folded over the outer face of the zone or part 13 considered. The tape dates back to. from its aforementioned end 27 and it can be folded twice in the opposite direction through the openings 21, as shown in FIG. 5. It has an end tab 28 with foldable side shoulders 29 to hold it in the closed position.
At this position, the band 26 ensures a double
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
thickness substantially over the entire area of the user's hand,
Fig. 6 shows another variant which is similar to the adhesive of FIG. 1, but in which the openings 30 have been made by completely cutting the walls 11 of the bag.
It should moreover be understood that the preceding description has been given only by way of example and that it in no way limits the field of the invention from which one would not depart - replacing the details of execution. described by all other equivalents,
