<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

a new process, that is to say aryl-dimontriaxine, without the use of organic solvents and in a very rational manner, proceeds in accordance with the present trverion which also does not require organic solvents, present considerable interest.
The aryl-diamino-trianes or aryl-amino-hydroxy-trians to be used as starting materials contain as aryl residue, preferably a benzene residue, which may optionally bear as substituents halogen atoms, alkyl, alkoyx, carbonyl groups, oarboxyl, trifluoromethyl, -NO2, or-SO2-, Aryl residues can also originate from polycyclic hydrocarbons or their substitution products, for example diphenyl, naphthalene, anthracene, anthraquinone, pyrene, fluoranthene and chrysema. The hydrolysis is advantageously carried out with 70-96% sulfuric acid and, operating at a temperature of 90-150,
while taking into account the fact that for a high concentration of sulfuric adide the danger of hydrolysis of the triazine nucleus is less, while the danger of sulphonston of the aryl residue is greater. Surprisingly, despite the severe reaction conditions, many products and also 2-phenyl-4,6-dimain-1,3,5-triazin can be hydrolyzed without significant sulfonation. In some cases, on the contrary, such sulfonation may be desirable.
The treatment of the products resulting from the hydrolysis is extremely simple and consists of pouring the product into a mixture of ice and water, separating the product by filtration and washing it to neutrality.

Generally, the products obtained are pure enough for analysis; otherwise, they can be purified by dissolving them in dilute alkaline solutions and reprecipitating them with acetic acid.
In the non-limiting examples below, the parts and percent are understood, unless otherwise indicated, by weight and the temperatures are indicated in degrees centigrade.
