<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

An apparatus according to the invention is shown, by way of non-limiting example, in the single attached figure which is a front view in longitudinal section of the apparatus.
The traction cable (not shown in the figure) enters the device in question via a guide 12 and then passes between two movable jaws 13 and 14.
These two jaws are actuated when ascending, by a shaft 15 on which a double crank 1 is rotatably mounted. The two jaws are connected to the crank 1 via: - for the jaw 13, a connecting rod 15 , articulated by one end on said jaw 13 and by the other on one end of the crank 1; - For the jaw 14, a connecting rod 16 articulated by one end on said jaw 14 and by the other on the other end of the crank 1.
The descent movement of the two jaws 13 and 14 is controlled by a lever 17 on the one hand articulated on an element of the jaw 14 and on the other hand connected to an element of the jaw 13 via a connecting rod 18 .
The lever 17 carries an axis 19 which, when it is urged towards the mooring of the apparatus, causes

one against the other during their descent.
The lifter 1 which controls the movement of the ma- ohotres is itself controlled, according to the present invention, by a connecting rod 2 connected to a lever 7 of variable length.
This variation in length is given by an eccentric 3 with multiple positions, which is placed in a hole 72 made in place of one of the points of application of the lever 7. The eccentric has two cylindrical seats 31 and a body 32, It is the axis of the cylindrical surfaces 31 which constitutes the very axis of the eccentric.
This body 32 is provided with orifices 33 arranged at its periphery, orifices making it possible to receive the end 4 ′ of a finger 4.
It is obvious that the circumferential displacement of the cylindrical bearing surfaces 31 relative to the axis of the housing 72 provided on the body of the lever 7 determines a variation in the center distance 31 21 and therefore of the lever 7. This lever is provided with a longitudinal hole 71 in which the finger 4 provided with a rod 41 engages. A retaining piece 9 mounted at the upper end of the lever 7, serves for the spring retaining screw 10 and for guiding the rod 41 of finger 4. The rod 41 of finger 4 is provided at its upper end with a button 5 enabling it to be actuated.
The operator can, the traction device being either at rest or under load, by acting on the button 5, 0 that is to say by pulling on the extended rod 41 of the finger 4, remove the end of this finger 4 of the body of the eccentric 32 and by acting on a means such as a pin 11, determine the rotation of the eccentric block 3, to obtain the introduction of the end of the finger 4 in a hole 33
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
determining an angular displacement of the lever 7, a displacement chosen by the operator.
The purpose of the spring 6 is to keep the finger 4 in position in one of the holes 33 of the body 32 of the eccentric.
The control means such as a pin is obviously placed in an accessible manner for the operator.
The invention presented the following advantages: a) possibility, by working at a low load, of obtaining a rapid advance of the traction cable, b) possibility of instantaneous adaptation of the operator's force to the load moved; c) possibility of varying the speed while remaining in charge.
It goes without saying that the invention is not limited to the exemplary embodiments precisely described and shown and on the basis of which other variants can be provided without thereby departing from the scope of the invention.
For example, the locking of the eccentric can be achieved by means of a key or other similar device.
