transplanted, it was found that ethyl bis (2-chloropropyl) carbamate of the formula:
EMI2.1
although it has no action against leukemia in mice, has a remarkable activity against transplanted walker's tumor in rats, superior to that of urethane. This compound exhibits less toxicity than its analogue as mentioned above and it does not show the severe hemopoietic toxicity of bis (2-chlorethyl) methylamine. The compound is useful in inducing remission of symptoms of malignant tumors.
The invention has for object, as a new product, ethyl bis (2-chloropropyl) carbamate.
This compound can be advantageously prepared according to the reactions below:
EMI2.2
For the first stage, any suitable chlorinator can be used, such as phosphoryl chloride or thionyl chloride.
The invention also relates to a process for preparing ethyl bis (2-chloropropyl) carbamate by reacting diisopropanolemine with a chlorinating agent, such as phosphoryl chloride or thionyl chloride, and then reacting the bis (2-chloropropyl) amine intermediate

with ethyl hydrogencarbonate.
The compound can be presented in any suitable pharmaceutical form. Since it is liquid, the unit dose is most advantageously presented in gelatin capsules.
A subject of the invention is also pharmaceutical compositions containing ethyl bis (2-chloropropyl) carbamte and a vehicle suitable for this compound.
The following examples illustrate the present invention without however limiting it.
EXAMPLE 1. -
Bis- (2-chloropropyl) amine hydrochloride.
A solution of thionyl chloride (936 g) in chloroform (600 cm 3) is slowly added to a refluxing mixture of diisopropanolamine (300 g) in chloroform (900 cm 3).
When the addition is complete, the mixture is further heated under reflux for 2 hours. The mixture is cooled and the solid material is filtered off. It is still collected by concentrating the mother liquors. The crude material, recrystallized from 50% acetone-etanol, gives 229 g (49% of theoretical yield) of bis- (2-chloropropyl) amine hydrochloride, mp 210-211 C ..
Ethyl bis (2-chloropropyl) carbamate.
A mixture of bis- (2-chloropropyl) amine hydrochloride (413 g) and chloroform (1.75 liters) is stirred, while triethylamine (275 cm3 + 135 cm3 + 170 cm3) and chlorocarbonate d ethyl (100 cm3 + 51 cm3 + 135 cm3) are added alternately, in the proportions indicated. The temperature is kept below 40 ° C by cooling. When the addition is complete, the mixture is stirred for a further 2 hours, then the mixture is extracted with water and then with 10% hydrochloric acid. The chloroform layer is then washed thoroughly with water until the water of
