<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>
<Desc/Clms Page number 11>

<Desc/Clms Page number 12>

The present invention relates to a device intended to control the weft thread in weaving looms in which the weft thread is inserted into the shed by insertion members provided with claws and which have, at least on the side of at the exit of the shed, a selvedge thread clamp which serves to hold the end of the weft thread until the pick is tightened.
Checking to see if the weft thread is correctly inserted is essential. In weaving looms in which the weft thread is inserted into the shed by inserting members provided with claws, it is known to explore the weft thread inserted from the entry side or the exit side. a crowd.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
This is the way, for example, that the weft thread between the tisgtt and the selvedge thread clamp can be observed by exploring the end of the weft thread, which is used for forming the selvedge and which, after insertion of the weft thread and after changing the shed is pulled into the shed, is present.
However, according to the invention, there is provided on the side of the outlet of the shed an exploration member intended to explore the weft yarn and whose displacement space is provided on the side of the displacement space of the clamp. with selvage thread facing away from the fabric.
This not only has the advantage that the insertion edge is narrow, the selvage thread gripper being able to grip the weft thread immediately against the fabric, but that with this arrangement of the exploring needle, the exploration can take place regardless of whether the weft thread is picked up by the selvedge thread clamp and if the insertion is faulty, the weft thread is not yet clamped and can therefore be easily removed.
The drawing schematically represents three embodiments of the invention:
Figure 1 is the cross section of the receiving boot of the shuttle from the shed exit side.
Figure 2 is a section along II-II of Figure 1.
Figures 3 to 5 indicate positions of the exploration member, the exploration support and the selvedge wire clamp.
FIG. 6 is a diagram of the movements of the explorer member, of the return shuttle bushing and of the selvedge wire clamp.

Figure 10 is a diagram of the movement of the acceleration of the explorer member.
Figs. 11 and 12 show a second embodiment of the explorer device.
FIG. 13 represents an exploration support actuated periodically.
Figs. 14 to 16 show a third embodiment of the explorer device.
The receiving box 40, figures 1 and 2, which is arranged on the side of the shed 41 exit, is connected directly to the guide of the shuttle made up of guide elements 42 and which is fixed to the leaf 38 with the comb.
39. The shuttle 43, entered into the receiving box 40, and which inserted the weft thread 44 in the shed 41 with the help of a thread clamp mounted inside this shuttle, was braked by the shuttle brake 45. At the right end of the receiving box 40 is arranged the selvage yarn clamp 46, the displacement space 47 of which is indicated in cross section in FIG. 2. To the left thereof , facing away from the fabric, is shown in figure
2 the exploratory organ, needle 48, in space
49. It is fixed by means of the screw 51 on the shaft 52.
The shaft 52 is mounted in the sleeve 53 which, for its part, is disposed in the sleeve 54. At the left end are fixed on the shaft 52 the exploration pawl 55 and the stop ring 56, and to the latter the rotation spring 57. The spring 57 imparts to the shaft 52 and the parts which are attached to it a rotational movement in the direction of exploration; its right end is embedded in the socket 53. By rotating the socket 53 in the socket
54 the spring 57 can be adjusted to a preliminary tension. The position of the sleeve 53 is fixed by means of the adjustment screw 50a screwed into the sleeve 54 and engaged in the groove 50.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The pawl lever 58 cooperates with the pawl 55.
It pivots around the pivot 59 mounted in the casing of the receiver box 40 and it is actuated by the link 61.
The rod 61 is articulated to the upper arm of the: operating lever 62, the lower arms of which are provided with cam rollers 63, 64 which rest on the periphery of the cams 65, 66 placed on the shaft 67.
The operating lever 62 pivots around the axis 68 which is mounted in the carriage 69. The carriage 69 is arranged to slide horizontally in the guide 71 and is continuously pressed against the stop 73 by the pressure spring 72. In the carriage 69 is a hole 74 with an inclined surface 75. In this hole is the peg 76 which has an inclined surface 77 of the same inclination as the surface 75 and cooperating therewith, The pegs 78 of the peg 76 prevent the latter from rotating because due to this rotation the surfaces 75, 77 would cease to be in engagement. On the ankle 76 rests the adjustment screw 79 of the rocking lever 80 which fixes pivots around the axis / 81 and which is applied by its left arm on the rod 82.
The rod 82 stands on the lever 83 of the stop shaft 84 of a device not shown for stopping the loom.
The device works as follows:
As the shuttle 43 enters the take-up box 40, the weft yarn 44 rests on the yarn carrier 85. The scanning needle 48 descends from its upper resting position. In addition, the shuttle 43 is pushed back by the return shuttle pusher 86, from any braking position 89, resulting from braking, to a determined release position 91 towards the foal 41, FIG. 4. clearance 91, at which the weft yarn 44 is disengaged from the shuttle 43 by opening the mat yarn clamp is determined by the length of which it is desired to be exceeded.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
clamp the end of the weft thread 44 out of the shed 41.
The braking position 89 resulting from the braking of the shuttle 43 may vary from one yarn to another, in particular due to the alternate insertion of weft yarn 44 of different sizes or of different materials. With the aid of the return pusher 86 which is actuated by the operating lever 87, and due to the pushing of the shuttle 43 to the disengaged position 91, said length is invariably adjusted precisely for each weft yarn 44, as it is. is absolutely necessary, for example, to achieve a flawless insertion edge. On the shed launch side 41, there is a return yarn puller known per se, so that the weft yarn 44 remains taut when the shuttle is being pushed back.
The selvage thread clamp 46, too, has been brought from its rest position to. tip of the crowd 92 where the clamping takes place, with its jaw 93 open, at the launch line. However, it does not seize the weft thread 44 until the end 99 of the exploration member 48 has at least left the space for the passage of the shuttle 43 and the latter has been pushed back to the position. clearance 91.
We can see the positions of these members from Figures 3 and 4. The curves of their movements are shown in the diagram of Figure 6 on the extent of the angles of rotation of the main shaft of the loom, from ao to bo Curve A designates the movement of the exploration member 48 which begins its downward movement out of its rest position ce of FIG. 3, to the angular position co of FIG. 6. At the angular position co the roller 63 is moved to the left by the cam 95, figure 1. The.! roller 64 enters the notch 96 and the operating lever 62 pivots in the direction of clockwise. The Case 61 rotates the
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
ratchet screw 58 clockwise as well.
The stop tooth 97 of the pawl lever 58 descends.
The tooth 98 of the pawl 55 which rests on it and rests on it under the load of the spring 57, accordingly moves downwards, whereby the rotation of the shaft 52 is caused counterclockwise. shows and the downward movement of the exploring end 99 of the needle 48. At the position dd, FIG. 3, the end 99 comes into contact with the weft thread placed on the thread holder 104 and, in the movement descending biased by a spring of the exploring needle 48, it is stopped at the position ce by the weft thread 44 which forms an open loop, FIG. 4.
The stop tooth 97 of the pawl lever 58 rises from the tooth 98 of the pawl. A little later, the control tooth 101 of the pawl lever 58 enters the hollow of the teeth 102 of the pawl 55, figure 7. This movement is completed at the angular position fo, figure 8, after which the pawl lever 58 is brought. to pivot in the opposite direction and the upward movement of the exploratory needle 48 occurs when the stop tooth 97 comes to rest on the tooth 98 of the pawl 55, movement which comes to an end when the needle reaches its position of rest cc, figure 2, at angular position ho, figure 6.
In the event that the release position of the shuttle 43 is placed far enough to the right so that the right end of the shuttle 43 is placed within the displacement space 49 of the exploration needle 48, the movements of the return shuttle pusher 86 and of the exploratory needle 48 must be offset and caused to occur at such angular positions of the main shaft as at position gg, FIG. 3, at angular position go of figure 6, the needle
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
48 is at least sufficiently raised so that the end 99 is out of the displacement space 94 of the shuttle 43.
Curve B in Figure 6 indicates the movement of the return shuttle pusher 86 which, at angular position ko of the main shaft, is pushed to the right from its rest position, Figure 1, until that, at approximately 3600, the rear end of the shuttle 43 is in the disengaged position 91, FIG. 4, after which the return shuttle pusher 86 returns to its rest position at the angular position m.
The movement of the selvage yarn clamp 46 is shown by curve C. At the angular position n the clamp 46 is moved towards the launch line to grab the weft yarn 44. The jaw 93 is closed by the force of a spring after the angular position r and thereby the weft thread 44 is gripped. At the angular position uo the gripper 46 reaches the edge 92 of the fabric where it maintains the weft thread 44 until the strike and the laying of the selvedge.
It results from the comparison of the curves A and B with each other, that at the angular position g, on the one hand, the return shuttle pusher 86 has brought the shuttle 43 to the edge of the movement space 49 of the explorer needle 48, FIG. 4. But as, on the other hand, the explorer needle 48 precisely leaves the passage space 94 of the shuttle 43 at the angular position go this last shuttle can be thrust without stopping to the disengaged position 91.
It results from the comparison of curves A and C that the selvage thread clamp 46 is moved to pick up the thread 44 at the same time as the exploratory needle 48 is lowered, the needle 48 being however raised from the weft thread 44 and the latter being tensioned again before the selvage thread clamp 46 has reached the position
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
left to the launch line, position shown in Figure 3, in which the weft yarn 44 enters the gripper 46 open at the angular position qo Only then is the jaw 93 closed to grip and hold the yarn at position r.
If the weft thread 44 then fails on the exit side of the shed 41 or if it is broken at any point inside the shed, the following feature occurs: The broken part of the weft thread 44 can no longer be pulled by the return yarn puller when pushing back the shuttle 43 and it becomes loose even when the break point of the weft yarn 44 is near the launch side.
The explorer needle 48, when it is lowered, is not then stopped in its downward movement by the end of the weft thread which is lacking or which is loose. The pawl 55 protrudes by pivoting the position of Figure 7 to the position of Figure 8, the exploratory needle 48 then arriving, beyond the position ee, at the position ii, Figure 3. When the ratchet lever 58 continues to rotate, the control tooth 101 can no longer enter the tooth cavity 102 since, in the position of the pawl 55 shown in FIG. 8, its tooth. stopper 103 bars the path of control tooth 101 and prevents lever 58 from continuing to pivot to the position shown in Figure 7.
The operating lever 62 is then stopped by the pawl lever 58, the movement of which is blocked, and by the rod 61. Its upper end remains in position K without being able to reach the extreme position L, FIG. 1. Therefore, the carriage 69 is moved to the left against the force of the pressure spring 72.
The inclined surface 75 pushes the ankle 76 upwards
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
sliding on the inclined surface 77, Figure 9. The lever 80 rotates and pushes the rod 82 down; rod actuates shaft 84 and the stop device it controls, so that the loom stops.
To raise the exploratory needle 48, the upper end of the lever 60 is pulled to the left, FIG. 1. The lever 60 pivots around the axis 60a arranged on the casing 40 and its lower end presses on the screw 50a, so that the sleeve 54 is caused to rotate clockwise against the force of the rotating spring 70, Fig. 2. At position ii of the exploration needle 48 , the lower arm of the pawl 55 is applied in FIG. 8 in the. cross 70a of the; sleeve 54. During the rotation of the sleeve 54 by means of the lever 60, the pawl 55 thus rotates at the same time as this sleeve and the stop tooth 103 passes by rotating under the control tooth 101. This tooth 101 can then fall into the tooth cavity 102.
This takes place by the pressure of the spring 72 on the carriage 69, the operating lever 62 then reaching its extreme position L. At the same time, the rocking lever 80 returns by pivoting to its previous position and the action on the shutdown device ceases.
The angular zone fo to ho of the return of the exploring needle 48 can thus be determined that, from the operation of the stop device until the stopping of the main shaft of the loom, the shaft 67 has rotated. sufficiently so that the exploratory needle 48 has already reached its stop position ce again, FIG. 3 at the angular position ho If this is the case, a corrective launch can be carried out after extraction of the weft thread defective without the service personnel having to first lift the exploration needle 48 and this needle is protected from damage.
<Desc / Clms Page number 10>
With thin weft threads, it is necessary to use two thread carriers 104, figure 5, enclosing between them an intermediate space 105 which is a little larger than the thickness of the end 99 of the exploring needle 48, increased by double the diameter of the wire. With a unilateral support, the weft thread still connected to the shuttle would be too flexible to be able to withstand the exploration movement of the needle 48 under the load of the spring 57.
Despite the presence of a weft thread 44, the end 99 would drop enough that the stop tooth 103 nevertheless prevents the control tooth 101 from continuing its movement and the loom would stop.
End 99 has downwardly, i.e. on the side contacting weft thread 44, a concave curvature to prevent weft thread 44 from moving away or escaping along the edge. top of the portfolio 104.
When the loom is running fast and when the end 99 of the exploring needle has a relatively large path to travel, a relatively large acceleration is required so that this path can be performed in the short amount of time available for each stroke of the loom. 'exploration. This requires that the elastic force of the spring 57 necessarily has a determined value to sufficiently accelerate the exploration needle 48. As the elastic shape decreases during the exploration movement, the acceleration also decreases. However, an imperative connection by elastic force existing during the exploration movement between the pawl lever 58 and the oliquet 55, the risk occurs that the tooth 98 of the pawl rises from the tooth 97 of the pawl lever 58 and remains behind. compared to this one.
This could obviously be avoided by tightening more strongly beforehand or by making stronger the spring 57 of fuçon than the
<Desc / Clms Page number 11>
@ pawl is able to follow the pawl lever 58 all the way.
As long as the explorer end 99 is not in contact with the weft yarn 44, the magnitude of the acceleration is irrelevant. But when this end meets the weft thread, with thin weft threads or threads of very flexible material and even if there are two thread holders 104, the loop drawn by the exploring needle 48 could be large enough, owing to the great force of the spring 57 required for the benefit of the great acceleration, for the stop tooth 103 to come in the path of the control tooth 101 and for the loom to stop properly that a weft thread 44 is present.
The decrease in the acceleration of the explorer needle 48 as the force of the spring 57 decreases is not a disadvantage. It is simply necessary that the acceleration of the pawl lever 58, or tooth 97, be increased. is adapted to the acceleration of tooth 98 of pawl 55.
This emerges from FIG. 10 Curve D reproduces the path of the end qq of the exploration needle 48 from the angular position co to the angular position fo Curve F represents the positive and negative acceleration. Up to point s of curve D at which end 99 comes into contact with the weft thread, the acceleration decreases from p1 to p2 After it comes into contact with the weft thread 44 the needle exploratriece
48 is slowed down.
From the angular position s2 the acceleration is negative, it has the value p3 multiple of p7 and P2 The decrease in acceleration p. at p2 is chosen according to the characteristic G of the spring

end 99, from u1 to u2, G2 representing the value of the voltage prior to the lower position of end 99.
Parallel to the line G and at a certain distance from the latter passes the line H from which can be deduced the magnitude of the force available for the movement of the exploratory needle 48 of mass M.
We can deduce from this by calculation the plot of the first part of the acceleration curve E. The acceleration P2 has a determined minimum magnitude, depending on the size and the material of the weft thread 44, so that a safe exploration of the weft thread 44.
The quantity P1 and the acceleration at the start of the exploration movement result from the drawing of lines H and E.
The magnitude of the negative acceleration P3 is independent of the force of the spring 57, this slowing down being caused by the slowing down of the movement of the tooth 97. The control of the pawl lever 58, that is to say the shape of the cams 65 and 66 is formed on the basis of the acceleration curve E. This has the advantage that even in looms with a high number of launches any delay of the pawl 55 relative to the pawl lever 58 is excluded, even at the position the lower of the needle 48, and hence the angular area of the main shaft corresponding to the scan can be kept small.
As a result of the positive reaction of the pawl 55 or of the exploration member 48 when it returns from the extreme exploration position to the rest position, the angular zone from so to ho may be smaller by half or even smaller. less, for example, than the angular zone of rotation from co to f, provided for the exploration movement, as shown by the phantom line in Figure 6.
The son carriers 104 of Figures 3 to 5 are interchangeable. They are made of elastic, similar to expansion retaining rings. In this way, their /

installation or removal, as also the adjustment of the gap 105 are very simple. These rings are inserted into the support bracket 107 by means of pliers engaged in the holes 106? this bracket 107 is fixed after the frame by means of screws 108.
To prevent, during scanning, the weft yarn 44 from being pulled too far downward out of the feed line, the yarn holder 109 can be made to be movable. In FIG. 11 it is fixed on the lever 110 which pivots around the fixed axis of rotation 111 and whose roller 113 is applied by the tension spring 112 to the periphery of the cam 114 of the cam shaft 67 by which the exploration edge 115 of the thread holder 109 is pushed. then

in the receiving boot 40. On the shaft 67 is fixed the cam 125 provided with the groove 126 in which the roller 127 of the lever 128 passes. The lever 128 pivots around the axis 129 which is mounted in the carriage 130, which is pressed against the stop 132 by the tension spring 131.
The lever 128 actuates the bar 133 which has at its left end three notches 135, 136, 137. The controller 138 which is provided to note the presence of the shuttle 43 passes vertically through the guides 139 arranged on the casing. the receiver box 40 and it is constantly * pulled downwards by the tension spring 140. At the bar 133 is articulated the angled lever 141 which pivots around the fixed axis 142 and which is engaged by its point 143 in the recess 144 of the controller 138.
The exploratory needle 145 pivots around the fixed axis 146 and it is permanently connected to the lever 147, the right end of which has a heel 148 in the form of a hook and which cooperates with the notch 137 of the bar 133.
The thread holder 149 which is fixed to the elbow lever 150 is designed to be movable. The lever 150 pivots around the axis 151 and, after its right arm, the cam roller 152 is provided which cooperates with a cam 153 of the shaft 67.
As long as the roller 127 is in the outer circular part of the groove 126, the push bar 133 is in its extreme left position, the tip 148 of the lever 141 is raised and therefore the control member 138 also its moment. or. the shuttle 43 enters the receiving box 40, the roller 127 arrives in the internally inflected part 134 of the groove 126, the bar 133 is pulled to the right by the lever 128 and at the same time the angled lever 141 pivots around the axis 142, so that the heel 143 of the crank lever 141 lowers, as shown in the drawing, and releases the or-

gane controller 138 for the exploration operation.
The controller 138 is therefore pulled down by the spring 140 but is in the presence of a shuttle 43 in the position shown in Figure 14. For this reason, the heel 154 of the controller 138 remains out of reach of the notches 135, 136 and the push bar 133 can move freely to the right.
The notch 137 has an edge 155 formed as a cam which cooperates with the heel 148 of the lever 147.
FIG. 15 represents the position of the bar 133 in its extreme left position, the heel 148, that is to say the lever 147 then being raised, so that the exploratory needle 145 remains in its rest position 0.
In Fig. 14, on the contrary, as a result of the movement of the bar 133 to the right, the heel 148 has risen from the edge 155 after the needle 145 has pivoted clockwise and is stopped. at its lower end due to the presence of the weft thread 44. At the same time, the thread carrier 149 has been moved to the right up to the launch line, so that the weft thread 44 which forms a open loop inside yarn holder 149 prevents exploring needle 145 from continuing to rotate. The heel 148 therefore only lowers to the position shown in Figure 14, its toe tapers, at the distance t, above the heel 156 of the notch 137, and the bar 133 can move freely to 'until the exact extreme position N of lever 128 is reached.
There is no shuttle 43 present, the control member 138 lowers until the heel 154 hooks either in the notch 135 or in the notch 136 and prevents the bar 133 from continuing to move to the right. As the roller 127 has not yet reached the bottom
<Desc / Clms Page number 16>
of the deflection 134 of the groove 126, due to the stopping of the bar 133, the lever 128 pivots around the articulation 157 and moves the carriage 130 to the left. The stop lever 158, on the shaft 84 therefore pivots clockwise and causes the loom to stop.
The same also happens when a shuttle.
43 is present and that the control unit 138 does not react, that on the other hand the weft thread 44 is lacking; the exploratory needle 145, then, is not stopped. The tension spring 159 pulls it completely to the left to position P, the lever 147 then lowering until the heel 148 sits at the bottom of the notch 137 and catches the heel 156, figure 16, so that the bar 133 is stopped in its movement to the right before the lever 128 has reached its extreme position M. Then also the carriage 130 is moved to the left and the loom stopping is caused by stop shaft 84.
