La présente invention concerne un procédé de conduite d'un mo teur à combustin à autalellmag suivant lequel, de manière connueon introduit le combustible avec de l'air de combustion supplémentaire dans la chambre de combustion du moteur, et cet air supplémentaire entraînant du combustible, est aspiré à travers un organe de réglage dans un oylin- dre d'alimentation où, sous l'effet de la chaleur de compression;
Ces procédés présentent les principaux inconvénients ci-après: ' a) risque d'auto-allumage du mélange fermé dans le cylindre d'a- limentation;

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
1) position extrême inférieuresl'antichambre 29 est fermée par rapport à la chambre de mélange 17;
2) position extrême supérieures l'antichambre 29 est reliée à la chambre de mélange 17, ce qui a pour effet d'agrandir la cham- bre de compression du cylindre 20;
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
REVENDICATIONS.

The present invention relates to a method of operating an autalellmag fuel engine according to which, in a known manner, the fuel is introduced with additional combustion air into the combustion chamber of the engine, and this additional air entraining fuel, is sucked through an adjustment member into a supply fluid where, under the effect of the heat of compression;
, it is vaporized, after which the resulting mixture is transferred to the working cylinders of an engine. according to known methods, the fuel must be completely vaporized by the heat of compression of the vehicle air, and the initial pressure is then 1.5 greater than the end of compression pressure in the working cylinder while that the temperature of the fuel-air mixture obtained is higher than the critical temperature of the fuel.
On the other hand, in the known processes, the fuel-air mixture is introduced directly into the compressed combustion air or into the combustion chamber of the engine.
These methods have the following main drawbacks: a) risk of self-ignition of the closed mixture in the feed cylinder;
b) poor mixing of the fuel-air mixture introduced into the working cylinder, with the compressed combustion air present in the cylinder, this air being practically discharged only at the point of injection
According to the present invention, these drawbacks are avoided on the one hand and by calculating the quantity of air drawn into the feed cylinder so that it takes up and conveys the fuel necessary for a given speed of the engine. and its heat of compression released during compression is used to vaporize the fuel, to such an extent that before it is introduced into the working cylinder, the compressed mixture has a final temperature below the ignition temperature the fuel used,
and on the other hand by not introducing into the combustion chamber of the working cylinder the fuel vapor-air mixture formed, but rather by introducing it at a pressure slightly higher than the pressure. final in the working cylinder, in a special mixing chamber, into which the compressed combustion air enters and by the effect of its kinetic energy, produces an intense turbulence and promotes the mixing of the combustion air and combustible mixture.
The implementation of the process has made it possible to observe that the fuel produced in the feed cylinder of the combustion engine resinous or lacquer-like deposits, caused by aging of the fuel and detrimental to the operation of the engine. The aging of the fuel depends on the presence of oxygen and the temperature of the mixture.
According to the present invention, in order to avoid these drawbacks, the quantity of vehicular air admitted into the feed cylinder is adjusted in such a way that the temperature of the compressed mixture is kept sufficiently below the ignition temperature of the cylinder. fuel and the reduced oxygen content, thereby simultaneously reducing the effects of fuel heating and thus avoiding fuel deposits prior to engine operation.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The invention also relates to a device for carrying out the method, in which, in a known manner, the fuel vapor-air mixture admitted into the working rolls is formed in a feed roll where it is compressed. , then is sent through a valve to the working cylinders of the combustion engine.
In known engines of this type, the dead space between the working cylinder and the supply cylinder is reduced by mounting the latter coaxially, their pistons then moving towards each other.
Devices are also known in which, during the compression stroke in the feed cylinder, the arrival of fuel in this cylinder is prevented.
These known devices have the disadvantage that for feed and work rolls mounted coaxially and the pistons of which work in opposite directions, a special device must be provided for running the piston of the feed cylinder.
On the other hand, it has been proposed to interrupt the flow of fuel into the feed cylinder during the compression stroke therein, but it is then impossible to prevent the flowing fuel from accumulating. accumulates in the air supply line, so that with each suction stroke the feed cylinder receives too much fuel and in irregular quantities.
In the device according to the invention, these drawbacks are avoided by directly controlling the piston of the supply cylinder by means of the engine crankshaft and by connecting the supply cylinder by a single channel of small volume to the inlet valve ' of the working cylinder of the combustion engine, which valve opens into a mixing chamber communicating with the working cylinder.
The flow of fuel is prevented during the compression stroke of the feed cylinder by opening the fuel feed line transversely into the feed cylinder suction line, the outlet of the fuel feed line. - ble being controlled by a valve subjected to the action of a spring, in the form of a sleeve, which throttles the cross section of the suction line and, under the action of the spring, closes the supply line of fuel and opens it under the effect of the air pressure going to the supply cylinder.

In the description below and in the drawings, the same reference numbers designate the same elements of the device.
In fig. 1, the feed cylinder is designated by 1. The piaton 2 which moves there is controlled by means of a connecting rod 3 by the crankshaft 4 of the engine. The air suction pipe 6 opens into a slot 5 of the cylinder 1. In a constricted part of the pipe 6, and perpendicular to the latter, the fuel supply pipe 7 opens. This part The constricted pipe 6 constitutes an element of the fuel regulator 8 formed of a rotating barrel 9 controlled by a lever 10. By rotating the barrel 9 in the regulator 8, the cross section of the air passage is modified in proportion to the displacement angular barrel, so that the fuel mixture is adjusted gradually.
The barrel 9 is adjusted so that the air which enters the feed cylinder can only entrain in the form of mist as much fuel as it can absorb and convey. There is therefore no fuel condensation in the cylinder. In the part 11 of the front end of cylinder 1, constituting both the cylinder head of the supply cylinder and that of the working cylinder 20, is arranged the inlet valve 12, subjected to the action of a spring 13 which normally keeps it closed. The tension of the spring 13 can be adjusted by means of a lever 15 attacking the nut 14, which makes it possible to determine the moment and the duration of the admission.
The valve 12 is connected to the supply cylinder by a channel 16 of small volume.
In the cylinder head 11 is provided a mixing chamber - constituted, by a chamber 17 and a channel 18 which connects it to the working cylinder 20.-
As shown in the drawing, the intake valve 12 opens into the channel 18 near the chamber 17.
The arrangement of the channel 18 and the shape of the chamber 17 are such that the fuel vapor-air mixture introduced by the valve 12 is driven by the combustion air compressed by the piston 21 of the working cylinder, in room 17 and there, is stirred intensely.
The piston 21 is connected to the crankshaft 4 by the connecting rod 22.
This engine works as follows:
When the piston 2 descends from the position shown in the drawing, there is produced in the cylinder 1 a depression which increases with the displacement of the piston, until the latter discovers the lumen 5.
The air then sucked in through line 6 passes through regulator 8, entraining fuel arriving through line 7. Barrel 9 is adjusted so that for a given engine speed a suitable quantity of air and finely divided fuel. or introduced into cylinder 1. The quantity of air is calculated so that it can absorb and convey this quantity of fuel.
During the consecutive compression stroke of piston 2, the heat of compression of the air is used to vaporize the fuel and this so that the final temperature of the mixture before the latter enters the mixing chamber, is even lower than the ignition temperature of the fuel used.
When the pressure in the cylinder 1 is strong enough to overcome the set pressure of the spring 13 of the valve 12, the latter rises from its seat and the admission is made in the part of
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
the mixing chamber of the cylinder 20 constituted by the channel 18. This admission can take place before the piston 21 reaches the top dead center, so that the admitted mixture is entrained, by the air passing through the channel 18, in room 17 where it is intensely stirred.
The mixture admitted after the piston 21 has reached the top dead center, is driven by the gas stream leaving the chamber 17 in the combustion chamber of the cylinder 20 where it is mixed with the combustion air accumulated at this location.
In the second embodiment shown in figs. 2 and 3, the feed cylinder 1 is double-acting. The rear end of this cylinder is closed by a cover 23 in which is mounted a valve 24 through which air is sucked in when the piston 2 moves upwards. The air suction line 6 shown in FIG. 1 is replaced by a pipe 6a connected to the lower end of cylinder 1.
The double-acting feed cylinder is designed to be able to compress, before entering this cylinder, the air used to convey the fuel, in order to increase the speed of the air passing through the fuel line. suction during the suction time of the piston, and to use the heat generated during this compression to dissociate and partially vaporize the fuel. In this way, the mixture introduced into the feed cylinder is treated homogeneously, which from the start of the compression stroke facilitates the subsequent vaporization of the fuel.
It has been found in practice that with a fuel regulator as shown in FIG. l, there is a flow of fuel in the suction line during the compression stroke of piston 2, and during the next suction stroke of the piston, this fuel is entrained by the air in cylinder 1. Hence done, and despite the correct adjustment of the governor, the cylinder receives too much fuel.
To avoid this drawback, according to the invention, a device is provided by means of which the outlet opening of the fuel line in the air suction line closes automatically after each suction stroke. In this way, above all, training is avoided. tion of fuel drops during the suction time.
This device is shown in FIG. 3.
In the part of the pipe 6a passing through the barrel 9, a sliding sleeve 25 is threaded which, at its periphery, has a groove 26 communicating through an opening 27 with the inside of the sleeve 25. The latter constitutes the constricted part of the pipe. 6a into which the fuel feed pipe 7 opens. This sleeve is subjected to the action of a spring 28 and the device is executed so that, at rest, the sleeve 25 is pushed back by the spring, to such an extent that the groove 26 is no longer in contact. sight of the fuel line 7 which is thus closed.
The force of the spring 28 is calculated so that the pressure of the air stream leaving the pipe 6a pushes the sleeve into the position shown in the drawing, in which the fuel pipe opens into the pipe 6a.
The feed cylinder of this second embodiment operates as follows:
When piston 2 is near its top dead center, as shown in the drawing, it has sucked air through valve 24 into the lower part of cylinder 1. As the piston moves to point
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
dead low, this air is compressed and expelled through line 6a. When piston 2 is near bottom dead center, it uncovers lumen 5 in the cylinder wall so that compressed air in line 6a can enter the cylinder.
Due to the air pressure on the end of the sleeve 25 directed towards the pipe 6a, this sleeve is moved to the left against the action of the spring 28, so that the annular channel is placed. next to line 7. The air which passes thus entrains through opening 27 a certain quantity of fuel in the form of a finely divided mist. The compressed air loaded with fuel expands in cylinder 1 and is compressed by piston 2 to the pressure required for intake.
Thanks to this device, any accumulation of hard fuel due to the formation of drops in line 6a during the compression stroke in the feed cylinder is avoided, so that each suction stroke is not introduced. than the quantity of fuel entrained by the air and coming from the opening opening into the suction line.
To the mixing chamber 17 is connected an antechamber 29 containing a controlled valve 30 with double seat, which depending on its position can establish the following connections:
1) extreme lower position the antechamber 29 is closed relative to the mixing chamber 17;
2) extreme upper position the antechamber 29 is connected to the mixing chamber 17, which has the effect of enlarging the compression chamber of the cylinder 20;
3) middle position: the mixing chamber 17 is connected to the outside air through the antechamber 29.
This device works as follows:
To allow the engine to start easily, the valve 30 is placed in the middle position, so that with little force it can be rotated at a determined speed. Thereafter, the valve 30 is closed down, which has the effect of rapidly bringing the engine to a high speed due to the high compression ratio and the high temperature of the compressed fuel air. In normal engine speed, valve 30 is closed upwards and the antechamber is connected to the mixing chamber and to the combustion chamber of the engine.
As can be seen in figs. 4 to 6, showing a third embodiment, the part of the air suction pipe 6 passing through the barrel 9 of the regulator 8, forms a Venturi tube in the throttle of which the supply pipe opens. of fuel. As can be seen in fig. 5, this pipe is made up of several parts, of which that designated by 7 opens into the wall of the feed cylinder 1. A longitudinal groove 7b is formed in the piston 2.
On the other hand, cylinder 1 comprises a part serving as a pipe 7a, connected to the fuel regulator 8.
The arrangement is such that, at the bottom dead center of the piston 2, when it completely uncovers the slot 5 and the air is sucked into the cylinder 1, the groove 7b of the piston connects the two bearings 7 and 7a to each other. of the fuel supply line. The fuel can then, and only then, flow into the air intake pipe 6.
As soon as the piston 2 goes up and closes the port 5, it interrupts

also the arrival of fuel to the regulator 8. The arrival of fuel is therefore controlled desmodromically by the piston 2 of the supply cylinder 1.
The fourth embodiment shown in fig. 7 is intended for a two-stroke combustion engine with self-ignition. As can be seen in this figure, there is an oil bath 32 in the crankcase 31 of the feed cylinder 1, so that when the shaft 4 of the engine turns, oil 33 finely divided is projected upwards. The working cylinder 20 has a crankcase 34.
The combustion air intake channel 35 opens into the cylinder 20. The crankcase 31 of the supply cylinder 1 is connected by a pipe 36 to the working cylinder 20 and this pipe is connected to a nozzle 37. located in the suction channel 35.
In operation, the line 36 sucks from the housing 31 finely divided oil 33 transformed into mist in the suction channel 35 by the combustion air flowing therein, after which it serves as lubricant for the elements. movable in the casing 34 of the working cylinder.
This process and the device for its implementation are particularly suitable for the use of heavy fuels, for example diesel oil.
CLAIMS.
1.- Method of driving a self-igniting combustion engine according to which a fuel-air mixture is introduced into the combustion chamber of the engine, while the air entraining fuel is sucked into a cylinder feed and the heat of compression of this air is used to form the mixture, characterized in that the quantity of air sucked in is calculated so that the air can absorb and convey the neo-test fuel at a given rate of the engine, and its heat of compression released during compression is used to vaporize the fuel, to such an extent that the final temperature of the compressed mixture is, before its introduction into the working cylinder, lower than the ignition temperature of the engine. fuel used.
