<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

In vertical filing devices, it is known to connect to a common suspension bar two edges of adjacent files, said bar being provided for this purpose with slots or cut-out parts making it possible to insert the folded edges of the files in question therein. However, the known suspension bars have the drawback that the documents placed in the file, in the immediate vicinity of the interior surfaces of the folder, are often found hanging by the bar, a drawback which has already been tried to eliminate by providing inside the liner bosses or similar protruding elements suitable for keeping the documents away from the inner surfaces of the liner and therefore from the bar.
The object of the present invention is to eliminate the drawback indicated above, more surely and without having to resort to the protruding elements in question. Its object is a vertical filing device by hanging files carried by bars common, each with two adjacent backrests, said bars being provided with slots or longitudinal cutouts, arranged so as to allow the insertion of a folded back edge of the backrest and the suspension of this backrest edge on the bar , said device being remarkable in that the suspension bar is disposed between the edges of the two adjacent files outside these files and is arranged so that it does not constitute an obstacle to the withdrawal of documents.
According to another characteristic of the invention, the fold line of the backrest edges is curved so as to form a very elongated spherical surface.
The invention will be better understood on reading the detailed description which follows and on examining the appended drawings in which a few embodiments of the invention have been shown, by way of nonlimiting examples.
On these drawings s
Figure 1 is an elevational view of the front side face of a suspension bar according to the invention, on which is suspended a backrest edge.
Figure 2 is a cross section taken on line II-II of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a cross section taken along line III-III of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a partial elevational view corresponding to Figure 1 and showing one end of the bar.
Figures 5 and 6 are two cross sections taken along the line V-V of Figure 4, showing two construction variants of the sliding surfaces of a hanger bar.
Figure 7 shows a shirt back viewed from the front after inserting its folded edge into a split bar.
Figures 8 to 13 are cross-sections, on a larger scale, respectively along lines VIII-VIII, IX-IX, XX, XIrXI XII-XII, XIII-XIII, and figure 14 shows a backrest edge along the invention seen in section and from above.
As can be seen in Figures 1 to 6, the hanger bar can be obtained by bending from a thin rectangular plate of sheet metal or other suitable material; after folding, the bar has a front side face a and a rear side face b
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
while 19 element which connects these faces constitutes an upper edge c, preferably in the form of a bevel. At their ends, the side faces a and b may be provided, in a manner known per se, with a tongue h forming a hook and with a recess! (cfo figure 1) allowing the bar to be suspended and held in a drawer or: similar, for vertical filing.
In each side face a and b is formed, preferably by stamping, a narrow cut-out portion, or slot d, extending longitudinally at a distance from the lower edge of said face.
The lower edge d1 of each slot is intended to support a backrest side (e, f), which rests on said edge after total insertion of the folded edge g in the slot d. The folded edge of the back e of any backrest is carried by the front side face a of a first bar, while the folded edge of the cover f of the same backrest is carried by the rear side face b of a second bar placed immediately in front of the first in the vertical filing drawer.
Thus, each bar carries two shirt edges belonging to two dif- ferent files o The longitudinal edges d1 and d2 are in the same vertical plane only at the ends of the slots d, as shown in figure 2, while, on the rest of the length of said slots, said ridges are in different vertical planes, as can be seen in FIG. d. The ridge d1 preferably extends, slightly set back from the ridge d21 so that once the edge of the backrest is fully engaged in the slot, the bar tends to prevent it from escaping from said slot.
The ends d of each slot d are wider than the rest of that slot, so that, in this region, the top edge d2 is further from the bottom edge d1, an arrangement which facilitates the insertion of the backrest edges folded as well as the affixing of titles. To ensure silent handling of the bars in the vertical filing drawer, the recesses 1 are provided with sliding surfaces i @ and i @ (see figures 5 and 6) by folding the cut edge i1 (see figure). 4.)
In Figures 7 to 14, the reference e designates a back of the backrest and the reference g the end edge of the backrest folded around a fold line in the form of a very elongated spherical surface k.
The front lateral face of the bar is designated by the reference c and the longitudinal slot of this face bears the reference d. It is very important that the fold line k is slightly rounded spherically, so that the suspended edge forms an arch in its highest region, that we look at this edge from the front, from the back, from above, or at the end.
There is a certain relationship between the radius of curvature of the hanging edge and the width of the slot d. The radius of curvature of the fold line k is chosen as a function of the width of the slot, so that at its highest point (see Figure 4) the backrest edge is above the upper edge of the slot, the lower edge thereof being taken as the base. The folded backrest edge is inserted into the slot d from the outside of the side face c, and takes a position parallel to that of the backrest side. The edge of the back rests, at its ends, on the lower edge of the slot.
In FIGS. 8 and 13, there is shown, in cross section, the various relative positions between the edge of the backrest and the slot in the suspension bar at various points along the length thereof.
Due to the spherically curved shape of the edge of the backrest the middle part of this edge is forced automatically, in the transverse direction towards the inside of the side faces and when loading the document folder, the middle part of the edge is clamped. against the inner surface of the side face of the bar above the slot. Thus, the backrest is fixed, removably but nevertheless effectively, to the suspension bar and it can undergo considerable forces without being detached from the latter.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
When you want to remove a backrest, use holes 1 provided in the edge of the backrest, near the fold line and on the non-folded part, holes through which you can pass your fingers to conveniently grip the backrest and remove the folded edge of the bar slot
Of course, the invention is in no way limited to the examples described and shown. It is susceptible of numerous variants accessible to those skilled in the art, depending on the applications envisaged and without departing for this from the spirit of the 'invention.
