PROCEDE POUR LA PREPARATION D'UN NOUVEL ETHER ET NOUVEAU PRODUIT AINSI
OBTENU.

On laisse ensuite reposer 8 heures à 0 , puis 16 heures à 20-25 .

GOT.
It is known that, when the tubers of autumn colchicum (Colchicum. Autumnale La) are extracted with alcohol and then the alcoholic extract dissolved in water is extracted with chloroform, a mixture of bodies is obtained. crystallized products, from which it is also possible to isolate by chromatography, alongside colchicine, a compound with a melting point of 180-181, which has been given the name "substance F". If one proceeds to hydrolysis of substance F with hydrochloric acid at. 2%, a hydroxyl compound of acidic character is obtained which melts at 133 to 134; [@] 24 = -234 3 (in chloroform).
According to the research carried out by the applicant, substance F is the

This new compound is obtained ... as well as its salts, next to substance F. by treating N-methyl-trimethyl-colchicic acid with agents capable of giving rise to the formation of methyl ethers, in separating the mixture of isomeric methyl ethers formed by isolating. where appropriate in the form of its salts, the

The treatment carried out in accordance with the invention with agents capable of giving rise to the formation of methyl ethers can be carried out according to methods known per se; preferably. the reaction is carried out with diazomethane. The separation of the mixture is carried out in the usual manner. in particular by physical methods ,. like chromatography; likewise, the compounds formed, above all by crystallization, can be isolated in the usual manner.
N-methyl-deacetyl-iso-colchicine is a valuable intermediate. in particular for the preparation of substance F, which preparation can take place by the methylation described above. Since the new isomeric methyl ether is formed at the same time. the yield of substance F is not very high. The starting material thus transformed can, however, be largely recovered by the isomerification of the isolated isomeric compound according to the invention. to be - processed again to obtain substance F.
Furthermore, this new compound exerts an action analogous to that of colchicine and is characterized by low toxicity. It can, therefore, be used as a medicament or as an intermediate.
Depending on the procedure involved, the N-methyl-
