<Desc/Clms Page number 1> PROCEDE POUR L'OBTENTION D'ALCOOLS A PARTIR D'ACETALS ET D'AUTRES HYDROCARBURES CONTENANT DE L'OXYGENE FIXE SOUS FORME D'ETHER. Le Brevet principal n 504.813 décrit un procédé permettant d'obtenir des alcools purs à partir d'acétals par hydrogénation hydratante. A l'aide de ce procédé, on peut en général également traiter des alcools contenant des acétals,tels que ceux obtenus par exemple à partir des produits de l'hydrogénation catalytique d'oxyde de carbone. L'hydrogénation hydratante est particulièrement avantageuse pour des produits qui ont été soumis à une distillation. Quand on distille ou qu'on met en stock des produits de synthèse qui contiennent des hydrocarbures, alcools, aldéhydes, cétones, acides et esters en mélange les uns avec les autres et qu'on peut obtenir dans des conditions de marche appropriées par hydrogénation d'oxyde de carbone à l'aide de catalyseurs au fer, il est impossible, après la saponification et. la neutralisation des esters et acides à l'aide de composés alcalins, même après avoir effectué une extraction sélective des alcools, de transformer en alcools par hydrogénation hydratante les acétals extraits en même temps. Cette impossibilité de transformer les acétals est due aux savons et autres corps solubles dans l'alcool, ayant une réaction alcaline en présence d'eau, qui demeurent dans les alcools extraits. Ces savons ou ces sels d'acides carboniques demeurent dans la solution d'extrait et se retrouvent dans les alcools lors de la séparation des alcools insolubles dans l'eau après la séparation partielle du solvant sélectif par distillation. Quand des restes d'acétals demeurent dans les alcools lors de la distillation fractionnée, on ne peut pas préparer à partir d'alcools impurs de ce genre, des dérivés de haute qualité, par exemple des esters d'acide phtalique limpides comme de l'eau. On a découvert que, par hydrogénation hydratante, on peut également obtenir des produits finals purs à partir des alcools ainsi extraits si on abaisse la concentration en ions hydrogènes, lors de l'hy- <Desc/Clms Page number 2> drogénation hydratante des alcools, à une valeur du pH inférieure à 4, de préférence à une valeur de pH de 2,5 par addition d'acides minéraux, Au lieu d'acides minéraux, on peut également utiliser des sels acides. Une valeur du pH inférieure à 4 est inévitablement nécessaire car, à une valeur du pH de 4,8, par exemple en présence d'acétates ou de propionates, l'hydrogénation hydratante demeure déjà sans résultats. Ceci prov&ent du fait que des sels des acides acétique et propionique nécessitent pour leur décomposition une valeur du pH qui est inférieure à la valeur du pH de l'acide acétique ou de l'acide propionique. S'il n'existe que des sels d'acides carboniques supérieurs, la valeur du pH peut alors être plus élevée. EXEMPLE On sépare des produits de la synthèse dite oxosynthése, par extraction sélective, un alcool brut ayant les indices caractéristiques suivants : Indice d'hydroxyle OHZ = 530 Indice de carbonyle COZ =.15 Indice d'iode JZ = 4 Indice d'ester EZ = 0,3 Indice de neutralisation NZ = 0 Teneur en eau 12,8 % Teneur en cendres 0,15 % Quand on soumet cet alcool à l'hydrogénation hydratante à l'aide d'un catalyseur contenant 100 parties de nickel, 10 parties d'oxyde de magnésium et 100 parties de kieselguhr, pendant deux heures à 2100., il reste une teneur en acétals qui, après le cracking des acides, est caractérisée par un indice de carbonyle de 4. Quand on amène le pH de l'alcool brut ayant les indices caracté-' ristiques indiqués plus haut à une valeur de 4,8 par addition d'acide chlorhydrique, et qu'on effectue une hydrogénation hydratante dans les mêmes conditions, l'indice carbonyle rémanent est de 2. Pour une addition d'a- cide chlorhydrique jusqu'à obtention d'une concentration en ions hydrogène d'un pH de 2,5, l'indice carbonyle résiduel se réduit à 0. Ce mélange d'alcools donne, par réaction avec l'acide phtalique, un ester limpide comme de l'eau.. En partant d'alcools ,qui, contrairement à ceux-ci,n'ont pas été traités ou ont été traités par des quantités plus faibles d'acide chlorhydrique, on ne peut obtenir que des esters phtaliques jaunes à brunâtres.

- REVENDICATION Procédé pour l'obtention d'alcools à partir d'acétals ou d'autres hydrocarbures contenant de l'oxygène fixé sous forme d'éther, .en particulier par hydrogénation hydratante d'alcools bruts contenant des acétals et des sels d'acides carboniques solubles dans l'alcool ou autres substances ayant une réaction alcaline en présence d'eau, suivant le Brevet principal n 504.813, caractérisé en ce que, avant l'hydrogénation hydratante des alcools., on règle la concentration en ions hydrogènes à un pH inférieur à 4, de préférence à un pH de 2,5 par addition d'acides minéraux ou de sels acides.
