<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

CLOSURE-FOR CONTAINERS OF ALL KINDS.
We know that tubes, cans, barrels, barrels; Bottles and other similar receptacles are provided, for the purpose of their dispatch and their deposit, with a closure which must enable part of the contents of these receptacles to be withdrawn whenever desired. As a general rule, this closure is constituted by a pouring spout which can be closed itself, when it is a question, for example, of containers or tubes containing lighter fuel; it is constituted by screw caps in the case of cans, by plugs with sleeves for barrels and barrels, stoppers for bottles and the like.
Apart from caps, closures are usually made of the same material as the container; their connection requires the provision of joints, as well as several operations, which considerably increases their cost price.
Screw caps or stoppers intended to enable parts of the contents of the receptacles in question to be successively removed are lost in most cases. In addition, these closures generally do not constitute a guarantee of the authenticity of the contents of a container.
With a view to eliminating all these drawbacks, the invention recommends a closure made of a material of medium elasticity, such as plastics, preferably based on artificial resins, as well as acid resistant rubber; the base of the closure has, over its entire periphery, an external constriction, recessed with respect to a collar which delimits it from above, and whose widened lower collar allows the edge of the opening of the container to engage in the constriction, by tightening the collar which, in this way, applies tightly to this edge. '
In the case of receptacles comprising a neck, such as, for example, bottles, the base of the closure has, this time, a groove.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
interior which, when the closure is slipped over the neck of the container,
adapts to a corresponding projection of the neck in the form of an annular collar, which has the effect of tensioning the entire closure device.
The cap closing off the end of the central part of the closure is attached to it, or rather to the base thereof, by means of a connector which, being mobile and elastic, prevents the loss of the cap. , while allowing it to be removed and replaced each time the contents of the container are removed.
This arrangement of the closure of the container has appreciable advantages. The container can be easily filled through the opening; the closure is replaced by pressing it against the receptacle, until the edge of the opening thereof engages in the corresponding groove in the base of the closure, which has the effect of tightening - Rer the latter against the container, so that the opening of the container is closed in a hermetic and leaktight manner.
The opening of the mouth of the closure is blocked by a tear membrane, which constitutes a guarantee of the authenticity of the contents of the container.
After releasing the orifice of the mouthpiece, the cap is slipped or screwed onto it, so that, since the cap can be easily removed, the contents of the container can be emptied each time it is used. longed for ; the cap itself cannot be lost on this occasion, since it is attached by an elastic connection to the closure.
The detrimental effects exerted by the usual cork bottle stoppers on the contents of the bottles are avoided by the new closure which has no effect on the contents of the containers.
The cost price of the closure, according to the invention, is low, and its installation does not require any costly adaptation of the opening of the container, nor the use of tools or the like for handling the container. closure itself.
The invention is shown by way of example, in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig 1 is a view of the upper part of an open container, provided with a closure in the form of a pouring spout, shown partly in elevation, partly in section.
Fig. 2 is a view of the closure cap of the spout of FIG, 1, the cap being shown here as a separate part retained by a connecting member.
Fig 3 is a sectional view of a closure for cans according to the invention.
Fig. 4 is a top view corresponding to that of FIG. 3 with the cap removed.
Fig. 5 is a sectional view of an alternative embodiment of the container closure.
Fig. 6 is a view of a third variant embodiment of the can closure, certain parts of which are shown in elevation.
Fig. 7 is a sectional view of a bottle closure according to the invention.
The spout 1 of the container 2 consists of an elastic material which can be deformed under pressure, such as artificial resins or acid-resistant rubber ("Buna"), that is to say materials which, as soon as the pressure ceases, resuming, because of their elasticity, their original form. The base of the spout 1 is formed by a collar forming a sort of circular projection in the form of a roof; the lower edge of this collar forms a groove 4 which, for its part, is extended by a collar 5.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The opening in the ceiling 6 of the container is provided with an angled edge 7 which, when the pouring spout {engages in the groove or the constriction 4 thereof ;, the collar 5 is put in place; applying? by 'at the bottom', 'at this edge 7, which has the effect of tightening the collar 3, so that the pouring spout is connected to the container in a sealed manner. For shipping and storage of the filled container, 1 end 8 of the pouring spout is sealed at 1) factory, and the consumer pierces or cuts it in a known manner, using a needle or instrument. similar.
A cap 9 which is slipped over the spout 1, closes the latter. The cap 9 is preferably made of the same material as the spout @, and is attached to the base, that is to say to the collar 3 of the spout, by means of the member. 10 connection formed by a kind of elastic thread, thus, the cap can be removed and replaced without difficulty, but without the risk of losing it.
According to Figo 2, the free end of the wire 10 for connecting the cap can form a ring 11 which is wedged, by inserting the spout, between the collar 3 thereof and the ceiling 6 of the container.
After filling the receptacle 2, the collar 5 constituting the lower end of the pouring spout is introduced obliquely into the opening of the ceiling 6 of the receptacle, and the collar 5 is made to enter completely into this opening, exerting on the spout, a central pressure, the edge 7 of the opening then engaging in the groove 4 of the spout.
As regards closures for cans, barrels and the like, the central part 12 of the closure has, as can be seen from FIG. 3, of sufficiently large dimensions, but it also comprises the collar 3, the groove 4 and the collar 5. The upper opening 'of the central part 12 is closed, at the factory, by means of a thin wall 13 easy to destroy, consisting of a tear membrane or the like.
The membrane 13 is preferably provided with a tear tab 14.
The cap 9 is secured to the collar 3 via the elastic thread 10.
According to fig. 5, the cap is screwed onto the central part 12 by means of an internal thread 15.
The connecting wire 10 is, on the one hand, integral with the collar 3, and, on the other hand, it is attached, by means of a ring 16, to a button 17 of the cap 9, so that the latter can be screwed.
According to the arrangement of FIG. 6, the central part 12 remains open, and the cap 9 is applied to this central part by means of a thin tear strip 18. The tab 19 allows this strip 18 to be easily removed, so that the cap can be removed.
Fig. 7 is a method of adapting the central part 12 of the closure to a neck 20 of a bottle. This is provided with a circular projection constituted by an annular collar 21 to which corresponds an annular groove 22 inside the central part 12. This preferably comprises the tear membrane 13 according to FIGS. 3 and 4 as well as the cap 9 with the connection wire 10.
It is possible, without departing from the principle of the invention, and in a manner analogous to the various embodiments described, to apply the object of the invention to all kinds of closure.
