  DISPOSITIF POUR LE SOUDAGE DE PLAQUES THERMOPLASTIQUES. 



   La présente invention se rapporte à un dispositif pour le soudage bout à bout de plaques en matériau thermoplastique, par exemple en polyéthylène, en employant un bâton de soudure continu et déjà liquéfié. 



   Dans la technique du soudage d'éléments en matériau thermo- plastique, le problème qui se pose toujours est celui du soudage intime de deux plaques posées l'une à côté de   l'autre    Il s'ajoute encore la dif- ficulté supplémentaire que ces plaques ne sont en général   atteignables   que d'un côté seulement, car elles servent souvent de recouvrement inter- ne pour les récipients les plus divers. 



   Il est bien connu d'employer un dispositif de soudage, qui dirige au moyen   d'une   tuyère, de l'air chaud ou un gaz chaud sur la coutu- re. En employant alors un bâton de soudure du même matériau que les plaques, on les soude l'une à l'autre par leurs arêtes. Ceci peut se faire éventuelle- ment en exerçant encore une pression sur les plaques au moyen d'un galet. 



   En comparaison avec ces appareils connus, le dispositif selon l'invention pour le soudage frontal de plaques thermoplastiques est de construction simple, est très maniable et ne   requiert   aucun courant d'air chaud. 



   Le dispositif selon l'invention est caractérisé par un organe de soudage présentant un patin destiné-à glisser sur les bords des plaques à souder, ce patin présentant une saillie longitudinale passant entre lesdits bords., des moyens pour chauffer ce patin et cette saillie et par là ces bords., le patin présentant encore un évidement dans lequel on enfile un bâton de soudure., qui ressort   liquéfié   entre lea bords des plaques.

   La poignée 1, en bois ou en un autre matériau isolant appro- prié, présente un évidement axial, dans lequel passe un câble électrique 2. Une douille 3 est montée sur la poignée 1 et porte à son extrémité une plaque   4.   Cette dernière présente sur sa face tournée vers la poignée 1, une prise de contact 5. La plaque 4 est fixée à une plaque 7 au moyen de boulons 6, de façon qu'entre ces deux plaques un espace libre 8 serve d'isolant et protège la main tenant la poignée contre les brûlures. La plaque 7 est sou- dée à un récipient 9 en matériau conducteur de chaleur, et contient l'élé- ment électrique de chauffe 10. Une enveloppe isolatrice 11 entoure le ré- cipient 9. Deux câbles 12,13 relient les pôles de l'élément 10 à la prise   5.   laquelle est connectée au câble 2.

   Cette prise 5 permet de remplacer rapidement l'élément 10 par un autre. L'organe de soudage 14 est monté dans un évidement de la partie inférieure du récipient 9, il y èst fixé par une vis de réglage 15. Il peut pivoter dans cet évidement et être fi- xé dans n'importe quelle position. 



  Il présente un patin 16, ayant une surface de chauffe 16a et une saillie longitudinale 17 sur cette surface 16a. Cette saillie s'étend de l'extré- mité antérieure du patin 16 jusou'à environ son milieu. Ce patin 16 présen- te de plus un évidement 18 passant au dessus de la saillie 17 et aboutissant juste derrière elle en 21 à la surface 16a du patin 16. On procède avec le dispositif décrit de la façon suivante: Les deux plaques 19 et 20 à souder, en matériau thermoplastique, sont posées l'une à côté de l'autre (fig.2) sur un support quelconque, de façon à ne laisser entre leurs arêtes qu'un espace correspondant à l'épaisseur de la saillie 17. Lorsque le dispositif sert à souder des plaques ayant toujours la même épaisseur, on donnera à la saillie 17 une hauteur au-dessus de la surface 16a correspondant à l'épais- seur des plaques.

   On applique alors le dispositif sur les plaques de façon que la saillie 17 passe entre elles, cependant que la surface de chauffe 16a repose sur les bords des plaques 19 et 20. La chaleur engendrée par l' élément 10, se transmet par le récipient conducteur 9, à l'organe de sou- dage, c'est-à-dire à la surface 16a et à la saillie 17. Celles-ci chauffent les bords des plaques jusqu'à ce qu'ils se liquéfient. 



  On promène alors le dispositif, la saillie 17 restant toujours entre les plaques. En même temps on pousse le bâton de soudure dans l'évidement 18 et il ressort liquéfié par l'orifice 21 entre les bords chauds des pla- ques 19 et 20.

   The device is then applied to the plates so that the projection 17 passes between them, while the heating surface 16a rests on the edges of the plates 19 and 20. The heat generated by the element 10 is transmitted through the conductive container. 9, to the welder, that is to say to the surface 16a and to the projection 17. These heat the edges of the plates until they liquefy.
