MACHINE TEXTILE.

TEXTILE MACHINE.
The main patent relates to a machine for washing piece fabrics. Such a machine comprises a series of trays in which are housed suction devices over which the fabric passes continuously. If, thanks to this machine, the washing is fast, we have nevertheless found that it is not perfect. It has been observed that a mechanical action on the fabric prior to the washing proper, was of a nature to promote washing.
For this purpose, according to the present improvement, provision is made to cause mechanical means to act on the fabric before it passes through the washing machine proper.
One characteristic of the invention consists in associating the device forming the subject of the present improvement with a washing machine as described in the main patent. In other words, the fabric travels continuously, passing from the means with mechanical action to the washing machine proper.
According to one embodiment, the means acting mechanically on the fabric consists of a beater element driven by an alternating movement of partial rotation. This element is formed by a cylindrical drum, the outer surface of which is lined with projections and the bearing journals of which each slide in a vertical groove formed in the support frame of said cylinder. This cylinder, resting freely on the fabric, acts both by the pressure due to its own weight and by the friction resulting from its movement.
The present invention will be more readily understood by reference to the following description of the accompanying drawings which show, by way of example, one embodiment of the invention.
In these drawings-. -

Figures 1 and 2 are schematic sectional and perspective views of a device according to the invention. In figure 2, the front face of the tank is removed.
In the drawings, only the elements necessary for an understanding of the invention are shown, that is to say that only the part of a washing machine relating to the device has been shown. acting mechanically on the fabric.
As shown in the figures, the fabric 8 is brought between the two drive rollers 2a then it passes into the tray 3. This has the general shape of a trough, that is to say that it has a trapezordal transverse section; the two lateral sides 3a are inclined towards each other and are joined by a semi-cylindrical bottom 3b. In this tank is housed a cylindrical beater 4, the part of the external surface coming into contact with the fabric is lined with asperities. In the embodiment shown, these asperities are formed by longitudinal ribs 5.
A peculiarity of the device resides in that the radii of curvature of the cylindrical beater and of the bottom of the vat are approximately identical.
The beater 4 is carried by a shaft, the pins 6 of which can slide in the grooves 7 cut in the transverse sides of the tank so that the cylindrical beater 4 rests freely on the fabric shown in 8. This beater is actuated according to a reciprocating partial rotation movement by means not shown and comprising, for example, a pulley fixed to a shaft passing through the frame and controlling the beater by an arm, which gives it a reciprocating movement.
By virtue of the device which has just been described, the fabric is subjected at the same time to the pressure due to the weight of the beater and to the friction resulting from the movement of the latter. The fabric which has undergone the action of this means passes over the drive rollers 2b and into the washing machine proper as described in the main patent and not shown in the figures referred to above.
It is clear that without departing from the scope of the present invention, provision may be made to pass the fabric successively over several means similar to that which has just been described.
