<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

"Machine for collecting textile plants".
The present invention aims to provide a machine capable of picking up the textile plants, and more particularly the linseed, for example after retting, the plants being laid out in a thin layer on the ground.
Until now, this collection has been done manually.
The machine according to the invention is essentially characterized by the combination of a friction drive device with at least one stacker element arranged such that during the advancement of the machine on the ground, the e- the stacking element pushes back the spread textile material in front of it

in front of him, so as to form a pile directly requested by said drive device. In this way, it becomes possible to quickly and economically collect any textile plant and to transport it, for example, to a binder.
The machine according to the invention is essentially simple and mainly comprises two rotary members whose peripheries, preferably elastic, are in contact with each other, forming the drive device proper, and a rotary member provided with 'asperities arranged circumferentially, constituting the stacking element. These two main parts are driven in such a way that during the advancement of the machine, the roughness of the stacking element pushes back in the direction of travel the plants lying on the ground, and the pile thus formed and drives is, on the other hand, constantly absorbed by the driving device directing it, for example, to the binder.
By way of example, one of the many construction variants of the machine according to the invention is shown diagrammatically in the accompanying drawings, in which:
FIG. 1 briefly shows, in profile view, such a machine in which one of the load wheels participates in the driving device.
FIG. 2 is a detailed view of an alternative embodiment of the stacking element, in this case combined with the driving device.
The main parts of the machine according to Figure 1 are the rear load wheel 1 furnished with an elastic rim 2 carried by the axis 3 on a side member 16 of the machine. Said rim 2 drives by friction an endless belt 4 carried by two drums 1 and 6 with respective axes 7-8. The axis 7 is integral with an angled lever 13 whose arm 9 pivots at 10 on a side member 14, using a perforated sector 11 and a pin 12, so as to be able to modify the distance of the axes 2 and 8. The provision

@ tif aforesaid tensioner will preferably be as described in Belgian Patent No. 472,697 of the same Applicant. This spar 14 is articulated by a pivot 15 to the frame 16 of the machine.
The drum 6 carrying the belt is provided laterally, on the same axis 8, with the disc 17 provided with a certain number of asperities 18 disposed circumferentially.
The operation of this machine is understood as follows: the frame 16 carried, for example by four wheels including the wheel 1, rolls on the layer of plants extended on the ground, said wheel 1 driving the belt 4 through its rim 2, and hence Isolated stacker 17-18. In doing so, the rods are brought back into a pile 19 which is constantly increased and moved, and simultaneously gradually absorbed and drawn between said rim 2 and the corresponding surface of the belt. These rods leave the drive device in the direction of the arrow f, and for example reach the release plates (not shown).
Depending on the quantity of plants, for example flax, which must be collected, the contact pressure between the elements of the driving device can be regulated either by the pressure of the air introduced into the elastic rim 2 in the case of a tire. pneumatic, or also by the position of the tensioning lever 13, that is to say of the pin 12 in the sector 11. Thanks to the tilting arrangement of the lanyard 14, the belt carrier assembly can automatically adopt the optimum position determined by the thickness of the layer of plants entrained between this belt and the wheel 1.
The machine according to the invention may be provided with a stacking element comprising either a toothed disc integral with the aforesaid roller 6, or a drum simultaneously carrying one or more rows of teeth, and the belt, or any other equivalent device provided with circumferential asperities, driven in rotation by the advancement of the machine.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
Such an alternative embodiment is schematically represented by FIG. 2, where a common drum carries the belt 4 and, on either side, the aforementioned asperities 18.
Instead of the belt: any other suitable friction device can be used with success, such as, for example, that described in Belgian patent no. P.V. 30069 by the same Applicant.
The selected drive device may also include, for example, two belts the peripheries of which come into contact with each other over a suitable length.
The invention extends to any machine according to the preceding description, regardless of the mode of driving the stacker and drive devices, and regardless of the width over which the machine picks up, the latter possibly comprising, without leaving the framework of the invention, several adjacent devices, independent or not.
