PEIGNE BOUCLEUR.

<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

CURLING COMB.
The present invention relates to a looper comb consisting of a cylindrical body suitably hollowed out to serve as a housing for a comb, capable of being erased inside the cylindrical body or brought into protrusion; in addition, the cylindrical body may have an attachment device on the outside making it possible to fix a curler, clip or pin of the type used for curling the hair.
This curling comb device which is the subject of the invention can be used either as a support for a curler, clamp or hairpin, in the known manner, or as an ordinary comb for combing the hair, or even as a winding comb for maintaining the hair. the curls, previously set, and that without having to resort to 1.'emploi curlers.
The invention relates to various implementation devices, in particular to the mechanism for controlling the movement of the comb by means of a spring plunger and sliding part with inclined grooves, and possibly to the addition, on the one hand, in the body. of the appliance, a heating resistor with thermostat limiting the temperature to a predetermined value and, on the other hand, on the body of the appliance a bar for retaining the hair at the start of loop formation. '
The description which follows, with reference to the accompanying drawing, given by way of non-limiting example, will make it clear how the invention can be implemented, the particularities which emerge from the drawing as from the text forming, of course, part. of said invention.
Fig. 1 is a front view of the apparatus forming the curling comb, the teeth of the comb being protruded from the body of the curling tool.
Fig. 2 is a section through II-II of fig 1.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Fig. 3 is a plan view of FIG. 1,
Fig. 4 is a view similar to FIG. 3, the teeth of the comb being erased inside the body of the apparatus and the curler being removed.
Fig. 5 is a partial detail view on a larger scale of the apparatus, this figure corresponding to a section through V-V of FIG. 7, the comb being caused to protrude from the body of the apparatus.
Fig. 6 is a section through Vl-VL of FIG. 5.
Fig. 7 is a view similar to FIG. 6, but the comb being brought into the retracted position inside the body of the apparatus.
Fig. 8 is a section on a larger scale showing an apparatus provided with a heating resistor and a current switch.
The apparatus shown in the drawing comprises a cylindrical body formed by two shells a1-a2 in contact along the straight portions x1- x2 and x3-x4 (fig. 1.)
Between points x2-x3; the upper edge a3 of each shell is, as seen in fig. 6, bent at right angles so as to constitute two flat walls a4, a5 opposite and parallel, situated on either side of the diametral plane of the apparatus passing through the line x1-x4.
It is in the interval between these two walls a4 and a that the comb b is housed. The latter is mounted in the apparatus so as to be able to be brought into a projection as shown in FIGS. 2 and 3 or erased inside the cylindrical body as shown in FIG. 4.
The comb control mechanism can be produced as follows: in one of the shells a1, an elongated plate c (fig. 5 to 8) is mounted which has oblique slots d; nipples e carried by the comb body b at its ends engage in these two slots.
The longitudinal displacement or sliding of the insert c takes place by means of a button! forming a spring plunger fo and moving in a buttonhole g provided on the shell a1. It can be seen that during the longitudinal sliding movement of the plate c the comb, as a result of the engagement of the pins, 2, in the oblique slots d and of the guiding of said pins by the rectilinear edges a6 of the wall a , is moved in a perpendicular direction, that is to say is caused to protrude out of the body of the apparatus, as shown in fig. 2, 3, 5 and 6 or, on the contrary, can be brought back and erased in the body of the appliance, the teeth of the comb no longer making, in this case, protrude externally from the body of the appliance (fig. . 4 and 7).
The body of the apparatus, formed by the two shells a1-a2, is mounted between a end piece h and a handle or handle i of plastic material, the assembly being arranged so that it can be dismantled or on the contrary, to form a united whole; in the latter case, the holding of the shells in place can be ensured by hot engagement of a stud .1 provided on each shell in the mass of said end piece.
On the outer face of the shell a1 are provided means for fixing a clamp or curler looper of the type of the 1-2-4 clamp described and shown in the Belgian Patent? 436,848 filed October 27, 1939 jointly in the names of Mrs. Veuve Sylow-Hansen and the applicant. cane can be seen in fig. 4 and in the section fig. 8, on the shell are provided two bridges k under which is engaged the strip or free branch 2 of the clamp 1; these bridges are similar to those shown at 8f in FIGS. 5 to 8 of said certificate of addition.
The comb-looper device works as follows:
The woman who wants to put her hair in folds (suitably prepared for this purpose) and who wishes to form curls with it, opens the clip 1 by separating its branches 4 from each other (fig. . 1 and 3) then in maneu-
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
turning the push-button to bring it from position f to position f1; it protrudes the teeth of the comb on the cylindrical body of the device (fig.
1 to 3).
With said teeth, it is possible to comb the hair and then, leaving the end of the latter engaged in the teeth, to wind the hair on the cylindrical body to form a loop.
Then, the branches 4 of the clamp are folded over the hair to grip the latter between said branches and the body 1 of the clamp.
By acting on the push-button to return it to its original position f, the teeth inside the cylindrical body are erased.
The looper comb can then be removed from the loop by causing it to slide in said loop which remains kept in shape by the clamp, the latter being released from the looper by sliding the blade 2 under the bridges k of said looper.
The erasure of the teeth inside the cylindrical body can be operated during curling, the teeth being especially necessary at the beginning of the formation of the curl to entrain the hair.
The woman proceeds in this way with the other locks of her hair so as to form a certain number of loops and she leaves the clamps in place for some time on the loops thus formed. When the styling is deemed sufficient, the woman removes the pliers by simply opening the branches 4 thereof and sliding the pliers out of the loop.
The curls thus formed by the styling can be easily maintained over a period of time without having to resort to the use of pliers or curlers but simply by using the looper comb.
For this said comb is used, not provided with the clamp 1 - 4 (fig. 4); after having brought the teeth to protrude, one proceeds as was said above after a light tolling one wraps the hair around the cylindrical body in order to reshape the curl, which is obtained very easily due to the setting in anterior fold, the looper comb is then released after having erased the teeth inside the cylindrical body.
The comb-looper apparatus, which has just been described, may include, internally, an electric heating resistor, formed for example by a wire 1 shown schematically in the pin 8 and which is housed in the shell a2. . The circuit of this wire has a switch button m and a thermostat n preventing the temperature of the device from exceeding a certain value.
The use of heating during the formation of the curl can, in many cases, depending on the quality of the hair, allow the styling to be done without having to use tweezers or curlers.
To facilitate the maintenance of the hair at the start of its winding on the cylindrical body, in particular in the case of locks of which the hair is of unequal length, provision can be made, as shown in mixed milking at p in FIGS. . 1 to 4, a bar or blade articulated at g on the cylindrical body, opposite the teeth of the comb b, which blade ends in a handle r placed in the vicinity of the handle i.
It goes without saying that any other control mechanism for the comb causing the latter to protrude or, on the contrary, the removal in the body of the apparatus, could be envisaged. In addition, the invention also extends to an apparatus not provided with bridges k, that is to say not intended to be used in combination with a clamp or curling curler or else an apparatus comprising any other mode. temporary fixing of such a clamp or curler.
Of course, modifications can be made to the comb which has just been described, in particular by substituting equivalent technical means, without going beyond the scope of the present invention.
