<EMI ID=1.1>
<EMI ID=2.1>
<EMI ID=3.1>

<EMI ID=16.1>

<EMI ID=20.1>
<EMI ID=21.1>

<EMI ID=42.1>

YARN TREATMENT APPARATUS.
The present invention relates to the art of making or treating
synthetic threads; its main object is to provide an improved method and apparatus for making or treating yarns of this nature.
The yarn collecting and advancing spool to which this text refers is formed of a number of rotating and elongated rollers which are disposed circumferentially about a central axis and mounted between two spaced apart supports. One of these supports can rotate relative to the other support so as to place the rollers obliquely with respect to the central axis.
When we manufacture or treat synthetic yarns continuously, we move the yarns,. following a single strand, along a collection and progression reel and during the movement of the yarn through different zones of this reel, it is treated with various liquid products to complete its formation or to make it undergo certain transformations. He obviously initially wound on the spool the front end of the wire freshly coagulated or intended to undergo a special treatment. The execution of this initial winding of the wire by hand has certain drawbacks which are too well known to be useful to enumerate.
An object of the present invention is therefore also to provide an improved means for facilitating the initial winding of the wire on the spool.
The rollers can rotate individually on their respective axes, and the spool can also rotate integrally around the central axis so that a wire wound on the spool moves along it in a geometric helix. In addition, it is necessary to submit
yarn at a controlled tension and controlled contraction so as to

of the finished wire,
Another object of the present invention is therefore to provide an improved spool for collecting and advancing the thread formed from rolls of special shape which allow the controlled tension and contraction referred to above to be achieved.
We have to take it apart from time to time, for some reason or
<EMI ID = 2.1>
Known tifs of this kind, one can not remove the rollers without carrying out a laborious and long disassembly of the device.
Another object of the invention is therefore the establishment of an improved reel in which it is possible to dismantle and reassemble individually the various rollers which constitute it with the minimum of work, time or skill.
As specified above, the yarn is treated with various liquid products as it travels along the spool, and it is desirable that the excess liquids and the excess liquids can be collected separately.
<EMI ID = 3.1>
liquid acting on the wire in one area of the spool to pass into the neighboring area and mix there with another liquid also acting on the wire.
The present invention therefore further proposes to provide an improved reel comprising means for wiping excess liquids or at least part of these excess from the rollers, and means for collecting excess liquids and liquids which have reacted on the wire. and direct them separately to the corresponding points provided for recovery
or use as appropriate.
The wire moves along the progression reel following a geometric helix comprising a large number of turns more or less apart from each other. Differences in the humidity of different rolls or of different parts of the same roll produce corresponding variations in the coefficient of friction between the yarn and the surface of the rolls; as a result, some turns tend to slide rearward or move forward at a slower speed than the other turns. These irregularities in the movement of the turns cause the accumulation of the wire
in bundles at any point on the coil. This bundling interferes with the processing of the yarn and seriously affects the value of the apparatus in which it occurs. To avoid this drawback, it has been proposed to groove the rollers of the spool so that the turns of wire placed in the grooves are thus necessarily separated from one another. We can do
objections to this process for several well-known reasons.
A further object of the present invention is therefore to provide an improved means for preventing bundling of turns of wire without resorting to grooving of the rollers of the spool.

The rod 44 supports two end plates 48 and 49 in in which the ends of the shafts of the rollers 36 to 43 journal by means of self-aligning bearings 51 (see FIG. 14). The . end plate 49 can rotate about the central axis relative to the plate 48 so as to place the axes of the different rollers obliquely relative to the central axis. Any suitable means (not shown)
can be provided to immobilize the end plates in their different angular positions relative to one another. The sense of obliquity

52 is wound on the right end of the spool, i.e. on the end supported by the support, and when the rollers turn around their axes, the wire moves in a geometric helix on the surface spool from the holder to the other unsupported end of the spool. The rollers are rotated by means of toothed wheels 54 carried by their shafts and meshing with a central toothed wheel 56 wedged on the shaft 57 of a motor M. (See for example Figures 1, 2 and 13). yarn 52 can be a yarn already manufactured and to which it is only desired to undergo a particular treatment / it can also be a yarn which has just been produced by delivery of a suitable solution through a nozzle 58 in a coagulant bath 59.
In the latter case, the wire passes over one or more bucket wheels 60 before being wound up on the take-up spool.
As the yarn moves along the spool, it is treated with various liquid products which are discharged onto the yarn through tubing.

zone Z (figure 9) before it leaves the reel and is wound up on a reel placed at the other end of the reel. It is possible, if desired, to rotate the entire coil around the central rod 44 at the same time as the various rollers around their respective axes.
It is believed that the preceding description is sufficient to provide the bases necessary for a good understanding of the various characteristics in accordance with the invention and constituting the subject of the present application. These characteristics will now be described one by one, in the order in which they were represented in the figures, but it must be remembered that
<EMI ID = 16.1>
ter any number of these characteristics.
Given the dimensions of the spool, the rotation of the various rollers around their respective axes, and possibly the rotation of the spool itself, it is difficult to grasp the end of the wire by hand and surround it on the line. end of the spool on the support side; one of the characteristics of the invention therefore resides in an improved means facilitating the winding of the wire on the end of the spool, on the support side.
As seen in Figures 1 and 2, the invention provides a winding ring 64 provided with teeth 66 which mesh with the toothed wheels
54 ensuring the drive of the rollers. Consequently, when the rollers rotate about their respective axes, the winding ring 64 itself rotates.
<EMI ID = 17.1>
the supported end of the coil it suffices simply to place the end of the wire in contact with the ring 64, the rotation of which causes the formation of a strip or bead of several wires B, and then push this bead
B, either by hand or mechanically, outside the ring 64 on the adjacent end of the spool. Through. following the obliquity of the axes of the rollers,
the bead B formed at the end of the wire moves along the spool and towards its end, on the side opposite to its support, where the bead is cut.

trairement to what happens in the system of Figure 1, does not necessarily rotate during the rotation of the rollers. In this second embodiment
<EMI ID = 19.1>
inner diameter is slightly larger than the outer diameter of the coil; as a result, when the strip is concentric with the spool, it does not touch any of the rollers. A suitable stopper 69 prevents the web 68 from moving longitudinally along the spool; by the way, the band
68 is free, so that it can be placed concentrically with the coil in
<EMI ID = 20.1>
let it descend under the effect of its weight to the position shown in solid lines in Figure 4: in this second position, the strip 68 is eccentric relative to the reel and rests on the upper rollers
39 and 40. When the strip 68 does not touch any of the rollers it does not turn under the effect of their rotation, on the contrary., When it rests on
<EMI ID = 21.1>
these latter.
The strip 68 is placed in its concentric position, that is to say in its non-rotating position, by means of a lever 70 which can slide in a fixed support, not shown, this lever 70 is connected by joints 76 to rods 73 and 74 themselves articulated on rollers 75 arranged under the strip 68. Rods corresponding to the rods 73 and
74 already mentioned are articulated on the one hand on the rollers 75 and on the other hand
at their upper ends at 72 on a fixed support. Thanks to this provision, when one. pull the lever 70 to the right, up to the position shown in dotted lines - the rollers 75 are moved upwards and lift the band 68 to its upper position shown in dotted lines, that is to say up to its position concentric with the coil. If the lever 70 is pushed to the left, to its position shown in solid lines, the rollers 75 descend to their position shown in solid and continuous lines.
<EMI ID = 22.1>
we want to wind the wire, we push the lever 70 to the left so that the strip 68 comes into contact with the rollers 39 and 40 and even rotated by the latter. After having pushed the bundle of thread B which has formed onto the spool, pull the lever 70 to the right, up to its position shown in dotted lines, so as to return the strip 68 to its position.

In Figures 6 to 8, the winding ring is constituted by a flexible belt 78 carried by the rollers and rotating with them. Only two rollers 79 have been shown in these figures which are arranged on the same vertical with respect to the central rod 80, as in FIG. 7, or which are arranged horizontally with respect to this rod as in < EMI ID = 24.1> can rotate around its own axis or around the axis of the rod 80, or around these two axes simultaneously in the manner which has been explained previously.

achieve controlled tension and contraction of the thread.
As has already been explained above, the nascent thread must be subjected to a certain tension during its formation in order to strengthen it; on the other hand, it should be allowed to shrink to a certain extent while it is being dried so as to minimize the shrinkage of fabrics made with this yarn.
When the thread is just beginning to form, it can and should be stretched more and with greater speed than during the continuation of its formation and at the time when it ends. Likewise, when the yarn is at its maximum moisture, it can and should be allowed to contract more and at a greater rate than when it approaches dryness.
<EMI ID = 26.1>
frustoconical ties whose angle of inclination varies in direction and size,
so that the wire is successively stretched and contracted, to different measures and at different speeds, as it travels between the two ends of the take-up spool.
To this end, the roll of Figure 10 (similar to the other rollers that the take-up spool has in all other figures) is divided into sections A, B, C, D and E, with section A starting at the end where the thread is wound initially on the spool as shown by arrow K, and section E ending where the thread leaves the spool as shown by arrow M.
The approximate characteristics of a roll capable of satisfying the requirements indicated above will be indicated below by way of example and without any limiting nature.
<EMI ID = 27.1>
Section C can have any length provided that it is not incompatible with the execution of the processing in question.

<EMI ID = 30.1> du with a relatively large rate of increase in tension as it moves from the receiving end of the roll to line ba, this increase in tension can be represented by the slope ratio 3/154. Then when the wire moves along section A its formation. progresses with relatively great rapidity and therefore the rate of increase in its voltage is reduced to a value which can be represented by the slope ratio 16/3300. In fact, during the journey followed by:

This is necessary in order to maintain a suitable spacing between the turns because, if the wire is wet and is not sufficiently tensioned on the roll, these

a yarn not subject to any restriction. When the yarn reaches section E it is completely dry and its tendency to shrink is just sufficient to ensure a suitable coefficient of friction between the yarn and
the roll .. This is why the section E has a uniform diameter, like the section C although this diameter is smaller than that of the section C.
The inclination of the generatrices of the different sections of the roller produces the tension and the contraction of the wire by varying the peripheral speed of these sections. Thus if the peripheral speed of the roller at the beginning of section A, where the diameter of the roller is 7 cm, 16, is expressed by the fraction 100/100, the peripheral speed increases gradually.

For this purpose, the bearings 51 of the rollers 36 to 43 (or rollers 79 of FIG. 6) are carried by the shafts of the rollers, and the ends of these shafts extend to. beyond the bearings, as in 81, to engage in the end plates 48 and 49. consists of a shell 84 curved so as to match the curvature of the roll, and provided with protruding strips 85 disposed longitudinally as well as transverse and spaced strips 86, all of these strips adapt to the surface of the rouleszz. The bands 85 and 86 are made of a material softer than that which constitutes the roll so as to withstand most of the wear, and are held in position by rivets or the like 87 which are made of the roller. same soft material as the bands or other soft material. Band 85 is used to remove excess liquid from
the surface of the rotating roller against which it is applied; as for the transverse bands 86, they are spaced from one another so as to correspond to the different processing zones of the yarn on the spool. For example,

of the surface of a roll, prevent or at least reduce the mixing of the various liquids supplied to the portions of the roll enclosed between two of these bands. The shell 84 is also provided with drainage openings 88 and
89 (see figure 22); these openings can be arranged on one side or the other of the strip 85 depending on the direction of rotation of the rollers to which the wiper and separation device is applied. For example,. if as in figure 19 the rollers 39 and 40 rotate in the opposite direction to that of <EMI ID = 41.1>
the opening 89 below the strip 85. By this means, the liquid scraped off the roll 39 is discharged through the opening 88 and the liquid scraped off the roll
40 is discharged through opening 89. Although this is not shown in the drawings, each drainage opening 88 and 89 is provided with a discharge spout 90, which serves to direct the liquid thus drained away from the outlet. convex rear part of the shell 84, as seen in Figure 34. If no outlet 90 is provided, it is possible to use ribs 92 arranged

39 and the other on the roll 40, these two rollers being closest to the point where the different liquids are poured onto the spool. The scope of the present invention naturally encompasses all arrangements in which the wiping and separating devices are applied to any one of the rollers, to any number of them or to all of them.
It is desirable that each shell 84 be pushed towards the corresponding roller with a predetermined pressure and capable of following in its movements the pressed part. When two shells are placed back

The spacer 93 has two parts 95 which are wider than the space available between the convex rear walls of the adjacent shells 84 and are provided with notches 96 intended to engage the rods. To fit the spacer 96, turn it so that its width is parallel to the elastic rods 94 and lower it between the shells 84 until the notches 96 are at the height of the elastic rods. 94; we then rotate the spacer until its width

In Figures 23 and 24 the shells 84 are pushed by their own weight towards the rollers 39 and 40. For this purpose, one of the shells is provided with a tab 98 notched at 99 so as to form a seat, and the other shell is provided with a tab 100 carrying a finger 102 capable of engaging on the seat 99. The weight of the tabs 98 and 100 is chosen so that, when the parts are assembled as shown in the figure 23, the lower portion of tab 98 tends to rotate counterclockwise while 1a. lower portion of tab 100 tends to rotate in a clockwise direction; the shells are thus pushed

, In Figures 25 and 26, the elastic rods 94 are provided with T-shaped members 104 whose rods 105 can slide in slots
106 provided on the opposite faces of wedge-shaped members 108. Organs
108 wedge-shaped have tapped openings in which engages a stud 109 whose end threads are respectively not
to the right- and one step to the left. By virtue of this arrangement, when the stud 109 is turned in a certain direction the wedges 108 approach each other and exert an increasing pressure on the elastic rods; the opposite effect is obviously obtained if the stud is turned in the opposite direction; it is thus possible to vary the pressure which applies the wiping and separating devices in contact with their respective rollers.
