" Etançon de mines. "
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
2 et
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

"Mine prop."
The invention relates to a mine prop. The object of the invention is to provide, up to a high load ,. a low sag in the inner member and to increase this sag from a high load and corresponding to subsequent load increases, that is to say to provide the prop with a property which allows it to withstand rigidly, up to a high load, and which subsequently allows faster sagging. Another object of the invention is to reduce the forces acting on the lock of the prop, and thus to unload the lock in such a way that it no longer bears a low weight.
According to the invention, an independent batten is connected
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
the interior element in such a way that it is forcefully driven by the interior element when it is pushed in and that the friction forces of the lock act on the batten. Depending on the needs, two or more battens can be provided. Preferably, the battens are placed in such a way that they are only subjected to tensile forces. The battens can be of different shapes and be made, for example, by strips of flat iron or have a wedge-shaped cross section.
Two embodiments, given by way of non-limiting example, are shown in the accompanying drawings. wherein :
Fig. 1 shows an elevation of the prop, according to the invention, the head of which is removed and the foot cut away for clarity.
Fig. 2 shows, on a larger scale, the upper part of the outer element and the lower part of the inner element, removed from the first.
Fig. 3 is an elevation of another embodiment of the prop.
In the embodiment according to fig.l, the outer element is of the usual shape, that is to say, au'il has a quadrangular cross section. A lock b is bypassed at the external element a. The interior element ± also has a quadrangular cross section. The interior element tapers very slightly from top to bottom. A flat iron d is arranged around the inner element c and is kept at a certain distance from it by the fact that it goes around, at the lower end, a half-round part f, connected to the interior element c. The two upper ends of the flat iron d are connected to the internal element ± by an axis e.
In the lock b are arranged, between the flat iron d and the interior element c, two furs and h, long enough to be able to rest, with their ends, on the edge of the lock and whose height is approximately 1 to 3 cm. smaller than the side opening of the lock. A corner k is
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
is arranged between the inner wall of the lock b and the flat iron d; an additional fur i being inserted.
The prop works as follows: When installing the prop, the inner part c, together with the flat bar d, is removed from the outer part a, until its top, not re- presented, butts against the ceiling of the mine gallery. This operation can be carried out in a known manner, by means of a laying device. which forces the prop against the ceiling of the mining gallery, under a pressure of several tons. At this moment, the wedge is driven, by a few vigorous knocks, into the lock. However, during this operation, the lower edges of the furs g and h must remain at 1-3 cm. from the lower edge of the lock. This can be done by means of light springs, which push the furs upwards against the edge of the lock.
When the prop is subjected to a stronger pressure, following a movement of the ceiling, the inner element begins to sink into the outer element, from a determined pressure. The inner element inevitably drives the flat bar d and the furs and h. The value of the sinking depends on: the pressure exerted on the prop by the ground, the degree of thinning of the interior element c, the force with which the wedge k acts on the interior element and the friction between the fur i and the piaf iron d, on the one hand, and the flat iron d and the wall of the lock b, on the other hand. After a determined depression, the furs ± and h are placed by their lower edges on the edge of the lock.
The load of the interior element is taken up at this moment, apart from the aforementioned friction faces, by the friction faces present on both sides of the furs and h. The interior element will only continue to sink into the lock if the load has increased considerably. At a determined, considerably higher load, the interior element will snap back into the lock, but at a greater speed in relation to the increased load.
By increasing the total friction face, the e-
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
shark can be subjected to very strong pressure, without excessively tiring the lock b. Indeed, according to the invention, by such a load on the wedge k, the inner element only begins to sink into the outer element, under a load of 10 tonnes, this property means that the sinking to about 50 tons is only a few millimeters, for example, 10 or 20 mm., and that, with an increase in the load, the sag increases in speed, that is, it attains already several centimeters. during a load of 60 tons. In this way it is certain that under normal pressures the stability of the ground is not altered, while under strong pressures the destruction of the prop is avoided.
Figs. 2 and 3 represent an outer element m also of quadrangular cross section. A lock n is welded to the outer element. The interior member o consists of an I-joist. The web of the joist thickens slightly from the lower end to the upper end of the interior member. Above the core of the interior element o * are slid, spaced apart from each other, two U-shaped battens p. thus each side of the interior element is provided with two battens, connected, below the interior element o, by a shoulder q.
The battens 2 have a trapezoidal cross section. Supports u are welded to the inner sides of the outer element m. The supports u carry the corners ± and t, independent. The corners ± fit between the flanges of the interior element o and the battens p.
The wedges t, on the other hand, fit between the two battens ±, when the interior element is placed in the lock and in the exterior element. Through the wedge v, the series of corners ± and t is advanced towards Inner isolation o. In this way, the interior element ± is wedged and the corners and t act on the battens p. The position of the battens in the wings of the interior element o have the advantage of exhibiting only a low torque.
The operation of the prop following the fies. 2 and
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
3 is similar to that of the stanchion following the fi.l. When the prop is loaded through the ground, the interior element sinks into the exterior element as soon as this load exceeds certain limits. The wedges s and t sink more strongly into the spaces remaining between the battens and the wings of the interior element o. The friction increases in proportion to the increased pressure, so that the inner member either stays in position or sinks only slightly.
If one of the wedges, for example wedge t, is pulled slightly by the interior element o, the same property as that described in the prop according to fig. 1 comes into play. Below each wedge t one can provide, for example, a spring which rests on the support u and which forces the wedge t upwards, for example, by 1 to 2 cm.
In order not to alter the ground excessively, that is to say, to achieve a low depression while strongly loading the prop, it is possible to use different and additional means. It is possible, for example, to increase the friction of the two cooperating pieces of the prop. This can be done by choosing. materials exhibiting a higher coefficient of friction, either by making the parts in such materials, for example light metals, or by coating them with such materials. In addition, when light metals are used, a reduction in the weight of the prop is obtained. It is also possible to give the furs and h, or the corresponding wedges and t a wedge shape, in the vertical direction.
If these parts g, h, s, t thin up or down, the resistance of the lock increases in proportion to the thinning, when the interior element is pushed in.
To obtain absolute safety of the prop against destruction as a result of overloading, it is advantageous to thin one of the pieces, h, or ±, t, in the opposite direction, so that it is narrower at the top than at the top. the bottom. A body is interposed in the residual spaces and is eliminated under a determined charge.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
mined, for example, by crashing or shearing. When using a body which destroys itself during a maximum load of the prop, the opposing wedge-shaped piece frees the interior element, so that it sinks, with certainty, to an appreciable value. in the outer unit and can be removed easily.
In such an arrangement it is important that the battens d or 1 are only subjected to tensile effects. By choosing a suitable tensile-resistant steel, it is possible to further reduce the weight of the prop. It is also possible to thin the battens in their longitudinal direction, instead of thinning the interior element in this direction. It is obvious that the two pieces can be correspondingly thinned. It is also possible to thin the battens in such a way that the longitudinal slit remaining between them is trapezoidal and therefore thinner at the bottom than at the top.
The operation of the lock can of course be effected in another way than through the wedges k or v. A variety of other arrangements can be used. The arrangement according to the invention has the advantage, however, that it does not require complicated mechanisms, frequently recommended, to exert the force necessary for wedging the interior element.
