<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

"Apparatus and system for photographic reproduction of manuscripts, printed matter and documents" For some time there have been apparatuses for the photographic reproduction of manuscripts, printed matter, etc., and which achieve this impression by reflection: the reproduction is obtained by the illumination of a photographic paper, the sensitive surface of which is brought into contact with the original to be reproduced. If the paper is very thin, or better still, transparent, you can also put the non-sensitive side in contact with the original. Less sharp images are obtained, but this is indifferent to the purposes of the present invention.
This relates to a particular embodiment of the aforementioned known principle by means of an apparatus and a system capable of simplifying and facilitating operations.
Figure 1 shows the principle of operation
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The sensitive paper is wound up in a reel which, through the drum A, runs over the cylinder of glass (or other transparent material) B, which, while turning, compresses the sensitive paper against the original to be reproduced 0 , pressed on the plane P. Instead of the cylinder B, you can use any other means suitable for making the sensitive paper run in contact with the original 0. After having been in contact for the necessary time, the sensitive paper will roll up on drum C.
Its movement can be obtained either by means of an automatic mechanism, for example with a winding spring, or by motor, or simply by hand by making the cylinder run like a roller over the fixed original, so that the sensitive paper is driven by the rotation of the cylinder. An equivalent variant would consist, if necessary, in making the plane P carrying the original run in contact with the cylinder placed above.
A light source L, consisting of one or more lamps placed inside or outside with respect to the cylinder, serves to illuminate the sensitive paper at the point where it is in contact with the original. The contact area between the paper and the original, which is theoretically a line, has practically a width depending on the radius of curvature of cylinder B and it has been found that there is a relationship between the radius r of cylinder B and the width z of the zone to be illuminated: more precisely, this width must in practice be between the two limits: z = r. 0.2 and z = r. 0.5
The delimitation of the illumination zone is carried out by one of the following two devices:
1 - by means of a screen S fitted with a slit F, a rear opening exactly delimiting the illumination zone.
2 - by means of an elongated lens indicated at D in FIG. 2, or an equivalent optical system such
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
let him converge the light into a narrow beam.
The second device has the advantage of intensifying the light in the contact area.
Fig. 3 shows an execution model: the light source L y is outside the cylinder B, inside which the lenticular element D is placed, which remains fixed while the cylinder rotates.
Another embodiment can be achieved by giving the lenticular element sufficient force so that it is substituted for the rotating cylinder, either that the optical element lpi itself is rotatable, or that it remains fixed and. the sensitive paper slides over it. In this case, the lenticular element has an optical focus located in the immediate vicinity of the point of contact with the paper.
All the aforementioned organs: coil, drums, cylinder, optical part, light source, etc., are brought together in a single chamber E, carrying on one side an opening of the same length as the sensitive paper, and sufficiently wide so that the part of the paper that must come into contact with the original protrudes. A G trim prevents the external light from coming to impress the sensitive paper once approached the sheet to be reproduced.
Coils A and C can be removed for replacement.
Fig. 4 represents, among several, one of the various mounting possibilities.
