<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>

"Improvements to Platinum Printing Machines."
This invention is an improvement in platinum printing machines. These machines form a well-defined class of very common use. A very strong main frame generally supports the form in an almost vertical position (eg tilted forward and upward about 10 from vertical). The stage is carried in a frame or turntable box pivoting around a transverse and horizontal axis, and at the bottom of the frame or turntable box there is provided a transverse bar which is moved mechanically backwards and forwards by a mechanism. with broken lever or toggle or the like actuated from the press motor.
In these types of platinum printing presses most commonly used, the sheet feed platform with its frame and clean sheet feed mechanism @

dit (suction bar or vacuum cleaners, levers, etc.) are arranged at the front of the printing press, that is to say between the operator and the platen. Further, the mechanism for delivering the printed sheets from the platen to the output or delivery platform is, in general, at the operator's right hand, and the gripping bar and its sliding carriage are actuated by an operator. Sénevé movement or Maltese cross.
Generally speaking, the objects of the invention are to simplify the control of the sheet feed mechanism and the sheet feed mechanism, and to make the entire press simpler and more accessible and its handling more convenient.
According to the invention, a platen printing press has its left-hand sheet feed platform of the platen and the right-hand delivery platform of the platen, and each of the feed movements is effected by a supply carriage moving alternately left and right on a rod, and carries the suction bar or the gripping bar at right angles to said rod.
In the preferred form of the invention, the alternate movement of the feed carriage is effected directly from the bottom of the pivoting frame of the stage (for example from a cross bar close to the bottom of the stage of the stage) by a simple linkage. or wheelhouse comprising (a) a connecting rod engaged with the bottom bar of the plate, (b) or several levers pivoting on a vertical axis actuated by the forward and backward movement of the bottom bar mentioned for giving a right and left movement to one end of each lever, (c) a transverse rod which alternates axially through the mentioned levers, and (d)
an arm set in motion perpendicular to the left and to the right by the mentioned rod which alternates axially and in connection

with said carriage so that, when the plate moves towards the form or in the opposite direction, the feed carriage is moved directly to the left or to the right by this linkage,
It is a known system to oscillate the bar in synohronism with the board so that lateral removal of a printed sheet can begin as soon as the board moves away from the form.
According to this invention, the two supply bars, the supply one and the delivery one, have this oscillating movement which is effected in any case by a transverse bar supported by the rod of the carriage on arms pivoting on this. rod, and brought forward and backward in synchronism with the board by a simple effeotive connection (the carriages of the gripping bar being rotatable on the rods of the carriage).
The nature of the invention and the manner in which it is carried out will be appreciated by the following description of an example, reference being made to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of portions of a platen printing press including the sheet feed and delivery mechanisms.
Figure 2 is a plan view (partially in section) of the lower part of said mechanism.
Figure 3 is a section on line 3-3 of Figure 1; and Figure 4 is a top plan view of only the platen and feed bars, these bars being mounted at the opposite end of their stroke from their positions of Figure 1.
The platinum printing press, considered as a whole, is of any normal shape, i.e. it includes a sturdy frame supporting all parts including the drive motor and the gear. The oscillating stage frame 13 (preferably a hollow molded part, resembling an open barge or barge) carries the stage itself 14 at its upper part and pivots on a shaft.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
transverse and horizontal 15 fixed in the frame and, near the bottom of the turntable frame, is a transverse actuator bar 16, which can be moved back and forth by means of a control mechanism normal such as for example an articulated lever mechanism or toggle 17, a connecting rod 18 and a crank (see Figure 3).
A second transverse bar 20 to, the lower part of the plate frame 13 is connected by a link 21 with a stick 22 sliding back and forward on the fixed guide rod 23. The stick 22 is connected by a link 24 with the front end of a lever 25 pivoting on a vertical axis 26, in the main frame or frame, and the opposite end (rear end) of the lever 25 is in connection by a link with the middle 27 of a lever 28 pivoting at its rear end 29 and coupled at its front end 30 to. a sliding transverse rod 31 which is driven in an axial reciprocation to the left and to the right to actuate the feed and delivery bars.
The sheet feed equipment is mounted to the left of the platen and the sheet feed equipment is mounted to the right of the platen. As usual, the feed and delivery platforms are movable vertically, either automatically or by hand for usual needs.
Thus the feed deck can have a feeler that sits on the stack of feed sheets and controls the automatic feed up the feed deck to hold the top sheet at the correct height for be gripped by, the supply feeder and, furthermore, the automatic movements of the supply and delivery platforms can be coordinated so that, as the supply stack decreases and when the supply stack decreases. delivery increases, the two platforms move up and down respectively. However, the platforms can be operated by hand independently.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
@ for filling or loading, removal or cleaning.
The assembly of the form and the movement of the plate do not form part of the present invention.
Returning to the feed bar actuation mechanism for supply or feed and delivery, there is provided a transverse carriage rod 32 secured in the machine and preferably cylindrical in shape. The carriage 33 for each of the feed bars is itself a cylindrical block which can both slide and rotate on the rod of the carriage 32.
In the case of the delivery feeder, the left-hand position of the carriage 33 is close to the plane of the right edge of the plate 14, while its right limit is located just above the right edge of the plate. -delivering form. The delivery feeder is preferably a clamp bar 34 and the jaws 35 of the clamp bar are closed to clamp the printed sheet and open to deliver the sheet to the delivery stack in known manner.
The clamp bar 24 is at right angles to the rod 32 of the carriage and this clamp bar can also slide on an oscillating bar 36 which passes through the frame 13 of the stage and this ensures that the oscillating movement in front and back of the clamp bar follows the movement of the plate.
The transverse sliding rod 31, placed under the frame of the plate, carries, at each end, a block 37 which is connected in a pivoting manner to the sleeve 38 surrounding the lower end of a lever 39 pivoting on an axis. horizontal 40 in the main frame, and at the upper end of the lever 39 is a sleeve 41 which can slide on a rod 42 whose lower end 43 moves in vertical guides 44, while the upper end 45 is pivotally connected to carriage 33, the arrangement being such that the delivery pinch bar 34 is raised to the right edge of the platen 14 just as
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
this leaves the form 46. The clamping bar 34 grips,
the sheet and moves away to the right by rocking with the platen 14, and the nip bar 34 drops the printed sheet when it reaches its correct position above the delivery stack (position shown in figure 4 ).
A very similar arrangement is used for the sheet feeder on the feed side. In this case, a suction bar 47 is advantageously employed, and it is understood that the suction bar is located at right angles to the rod 32 of the carriage and rocks with the platen like the delivery clamp bar.
the movements of the two feeders are so similar that they can be effected from the same transverse sliding rod 31, and by an exactly similar mechanism, and the two movements can be co-ordinated so that when the feeder 47 moves to the left to be ready to lift a new sheet, the delivery pinch bar also moves to the left to be ready to lift the printed sheet and, vice versa, when the pinch bar 34 moves to the right to removing the printed sheet, the infeed feeder 47 also moves to the right to bring the new sheet to the platen.
The infeed feeder or suction bar 47 can be very short, i.e. it can be the same length as the sheet, and this can result in a considerable saving in pumping. aspiration.
In well-known standardized forms of platen printing presses, where the feed equipment sits at the front of the platen, the suction bar normally extends left to right and moves back and forth. , and in this case it is customary to have on the rear edge of the supply platform a compressed air duct with orifices which allow the compressed air to act on the rear edge of the stack feed for easy single sheet removal.
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
If such a compressed air supply is employed in the present machine, the line is located on the right hand side of the feed platform parallel to the suction bar.
