<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

Method and devices for transferring the contents of vacuum storage containers to a vacuum tank.
The present invention relates to a method and to devices for enabling the contents to be transferred to a vacuum tank from vacuum storage containers.
It finds its application mainly in the case of jugs in which milk is stored under vacuum in order to avoid any contact with the external atmosphere and in particular to jugs of the type described in Belgian application 361.721 of June 21, 1946 in the name of same inventor.
The object of the invention is to enable this transfer to be carried out also sheltered from outside air and consists in providing the receptacle, for example the jug containing the milk, with a provisional plate with which is integral a sleeve mounted with gentle friction on an opening axis provided with a bore / in the reservoir and in that the setting in rotation of the jug around this axis via
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
of the sleeve with which the temporary plate is fitted has the effect of causing, under the action of the vacuum in the reservoir, the opening of a diaphragm or of another member with which a permanent cover of the receptacle or jug is fitted and determine the flow of milk to the reservoir while, after emptying the jug,
the removal of the jug is made possible by a further rotation of the tray-jug assembly, which is returned to a position where the vacuum supply to the jug is cut off but in which the outside air can enter a fitting between the provisional cover tray and the permanent jug cover.
Different devices allowing the practice of the method will be described below by way of example.
FIG. 1 is a sectional view of the device showing the different devices at the time when the jug has just been placed.
FIG. 2 is a view similar to FIG. 1 with the different devices in the position where the flow of the liquid takes place from the jug into the reservoir after the latter has been rotated by 180.
Figures 3 and 4 are elevational and plan views of the tray with which the container or jug is provisionally provided.
In Fig. 1 of the accompanying drawings, 1 denotes the jug in which the milk is stored under vacuum and which, in the example shown, is provided, as described in application no.361.721 of June 21, 1946 in the name of same inventor, with a cover Z conical on its periphery and fitting into a female cone 3 provided in the neck of the jug 1. This cover is provided with a diaphragm 4. which is usually in the form of a ring comprising a rubber sheet and a metal sheet and which rests on a series of holes 5 opening inside the jug. On a tubular protrusion 6 of this

cover, screw on a cap 7 provided with an opening 8 opening above the diaphragm 4.
According to the invention, in order to allow the transfer of milk from the jug 1 into the reservoir 9 where there is also a vacuum, the jug 1 is provisionally provided with a plate 10 which has a tubular rim 11 through which it s' introduced into the neck 12 of the jug and which further has an annular surface 13 bearing on a rubber seal 14 in order to absorb shocks.
This plate 10 has, in its center, a hollow conical projection 15 which takes a connector 16, preferably of rubber, the other end of which engages around a projection 17 which is also conical and hollow on the cap 7.
When the tray 10 is in place on the jug, the fitting 16 is bellows shaped and is compressed to produce a perfect adhesion, but it elongates to take a more or less cylindrical shape when the plate is removed. - water.
With the plate 10 forming a body, in a direction perpendicular to the central axis of the latter, a sleeve 18 having a conical longitudinal bore through which it engages with gentle friction on an axis which has on either side of a circular projection 19 two parts 20-201 of reverse taper, the sleeve 18 taking on one (20) of these parts, while on the other (20) engages a projection 21 of the reservoir 9 The elements 18 and 20 are assembled using a nut 22 which is screwed onto a threaded rod 23 and acts on a washer 24.
The gentle friction mounting of the tubing 18 on the conical part 20 allows the rotation of the plate 10 around this part 20.

<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The part 20-201 is pierced longitudinally by a channel 25 opening at one end into the reservoir 1 and at the other end into a channel 26 which is formed in the part 20 in a direction perpendicular to the axis of the channel 25 and which opens to the periphery of room 20-201.
A longitudinal groove 27 is drilled on this periphery of the part 20, the role of which is to allow atmospheric air (introduced through an orifice 28) to enter the rubber coupling 16, but this only when the jug is seated. found in the position shown in figure 1.
The plate 10 is also pierced with a hole 29 allowing air to enter the chamber 30 formed between the plate 10 and the cover 2.
The channel 25 could possibly be extended so as to also open at the other end of the axis 20, that is to say in front of the rod 23 which could serve as a closure member. This arrangement makes it possible to avoid any loss of vacuum and facilitates cleaning, a cleaning stick being able to be passed right through in the duct 25.
The operation of the device is as follows:
The jug filled with milk, will be introduced by its neck 12, being moved from bottom to top, on the projection 11 of the plate 10 and will be placed in the position shown in Figure 1. We then immediately fold the handle 31 of the jug (fig.l) on a part 18 'projecting from the sleeve 18 and the assembly constituted by the jug, the plate 10 and the sleeve 18 is made to describe a rotation of 180 in such a manner that the jug is brought into the position shown in figure 2.
Thanks to this rotation, the channel 26 is placed in front of the bore 32 formed in the plate and the vacuum of the reservoir 9 is communicated by the channel 25, the channel 26, the bore 32, in the fitting. 16 and acts on diaphragm 4
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
which is detached from its seat being helped by the weight of the milk.
A vacuum equilibrium is then established between the inside of the jug and the reservoir 9.
The milk can then flow from the jug into the reservoir 9.
When the jug has been completely emptied of its contents, it is important to disengage it with respect to its tray 10, which presents a difficulty resulting from the jug continuing to be kept under vacuum.
To achieve this release, all you have to do is have the unit describe: plate-jug a new rotation of 180 so as to bring the arch back to the position of figure 1.
In this position, the vacuum supply to the jug will be cut off but, on the other hand, the outside air will be able to enter the fitting 16 through the hole 28, the groove 27 and the bore 32. The fitting 16 is towards the outside also subjected to atmospheric pressure thanks to the air inlet at 29.
The removal of the jug can then be done without difficulty.
The system is supplemented by certain means whose role is based on the following considerations:
It could happen that during the emptying of the jug, the vacuum does not remain in equilibrium between the interior of the jug and the reservoir and that, therefore, the flow of milk stops due to a higher degree of vacuum in the spit.
In order to deal with this eventuality, certain holes 5 of the cover 2, for example two of these holes, are provided with tubes 33 extending to the vicinity of the bottom of the jug where they open out.
Channels 25, 32 and 8 have a width which is calculated so that, when emptying the jug, their section is not
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
never filled with milk so that, although the emptying operation is in progress, the vacuum of the reservoir is felt continuously to the bottom of the jug by the two tubes 33 fixed for example on two holes 5. The other holes 5 completing the series remain free for the flow of milk.
Claims s --------------------------- 1.- Method for transferring the contents of a vacuum storage container into a reservoir also under vacuum, characterized in that the receptacle, for example a jug containing milk, is provided with a temporary plate (10) with which is integral a sleeve (18) mounted with gentle friction on an axis (20) provided with a bore (25) opening into the reservoir (9) and in that the setting in rotation of the jug around this axis by means of the sleeve with which the provisional plate is provided has the effect of causing under the action of the vacuum of the tank, the opening of a diaphragm (4) or another member with which a permanent cover (2) of the jug is provided and to determine the flow of milk towards the tank while,
after the emptying of the jug, the removal of the jug is made possible by a further rotation of the tray-jug assembly which is returned to a position where the vacuum supply to the jug is cut off, but in which outside air can enter a fitting (16) provided between the temporary cover plate and the permanent cover of the jug.
