<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

"Metal prop for mine size"
The present invention relates to a prop for mine size, of the telescopic type, as well as to a locking device, at the desired height, of the telescoping element of this prop.
The prop according to the invention consists of a lower tubular shank and an upper shank also tubular, fitting into the lower shank, the said upper shank being provided on the outside with a net intended to be engaged by two nut portions respectively carried by a fixed element and a movable element of a locking mechanism resting in rotation on a plate carried by the head of the lower barrel and making it possible to block the upper barrel on the lower barrel, after adjusting the seal to the appropriate height for the opening of the vein, the respectively fixed and movable nut portions of the locking mechanism can be brought together or separated by the movement of a dual-use key pavement in one direction or the other.
By way of simple example, one embodiment of
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
the object of the invention is described below with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: FIG. 1 is an elevation view, in partial section, of a telecopic prop and its locking device produced according to the invention.
Fig. 2 is a plan view showing the locking device in the locking position.
Fig.3 is a similar view showing the same device in the unlocked position.
As shown particularly in FIG. 1, the prop according to the invention consists of a lower shank 5 in seamless tube and an upper shank 6, in cast steel, fitting into the shank 5, in which it can slide. On the upper shaft 6 is formed a trapezoidal coarse thread screw 7.
At the head of the lower shaft 5 is welded a plate 8, in cast steel, on which rests and can pivot or freely play the device intended to secure the two fats 5 and 6 when the prop has been brought to the appropriate height for the opening. in the vein.
This device, hereinafter called "lock", consists of a cast steel collar 9 carrying a nut portion 10 corresponding to the thread 7 of the barrel 6 while at its diametrically opposite part, this collar 9, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, opens into two parallel branches 9a and 9b, joined at their end by a cross member 9c, between which can slide a cleat 11 also carrying a nut portion 12 corresponding to the thread 7.
The collar 9 and the sliding cleat 11 each carry a hook 13 and 14 respectively cast with them and engaging under the rim 8a of the plate 8 with a view to retaining on the latter each of the two mobile parts formed by the said necklace and said cleat.
The two nut portions 10 and 12 can be brought together
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
or separated from each other by the displacement of a dual-use key formed of a key 15 and a key 15 of different taper. These two keys are engaged in suitable slots 15a and 16a, presented by the parallel branches 9a, 9b of the collar 9, and passing through corresponding recesses 15b and 18b formed in the cleat 11, in order to cooperate therein with ramps 15c and 16c of corresponding slope. The base of each key 15,16 is provided with a plate 17,18 making it possible to drive out said keys using a hammer.
The operation of the device is as follows:
The nut portions 10 and 12 being spaced apart, as shown in FIG. 3, these allow the barrel 6 to be freely raised. When the latter has been brought to the desired height, it suffices to drive the key 15 into the lock to cause, by displacement of the cleat 11, the approximation of the nut portions. 10 and 12. This bringing together has the effect, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, to engage these two nut portions in the thread 7 of the barrel 6, so that the latter is made integral with the barrel 5, this attachment remaining maintained as long as the key 15 is in the position of depression.
In the event that, as a result of the height position given to the fiât 6, the threads of the latter do not correspond to the threads of the nut portions 10 and 12 presented by the lock 9, which would consequently prevent the approximation of these two nut portions and the locking of the said barrel, just turn the lock
9 on the plate 8, to which it is made integral by its hooks 13 and 14, until the desired correspondence between the threads is obtained, to allow the fiât 6 to be blocked.
As a result of this arrangement, the blocking of the upper barrel can be obtained at any height of deployment of the prop, whatever the angular position of the screw. moreover, thanks to the fact that the head 19 of the barrel 6 can itself
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
pivot around the vertical axis of the latter, the barrel 6 and the lock 9 can, after locking the latter, be brought back to the optimum position, in the event that the locking maneuver described above would have immobilized said lock in an angular position not conducive to the execution of the subsequent unlocking maneuver.
This unlocking operation can be accomplished, this time driving the key 16, so as to separate the nut portions 10 and 12 from one another, until the thread 7 is completely released.
It should be noted that the ramp of the locking key 15 is faster than that of the locking key 16. This difference is motivated by the fact that at the time of locking, these elements of the lock 9 can be moved freely, while during the release they support at this time the load carried by the prop and therefore require a force much more maneuver.
In order to absorb the shock on the sole 20 of the barrel 5, due to the fall of the upper fat 6, during the release of the latter, a wooden plug 21 is driven to the bottom of the fat 5.
