The invention relates to a drive device comprising a motor, one or more rails combined with wheels.
motors, driven by the motor, as well as a mechanical speed variator. Such devices * are known; they affect
the most diverse forms and are used for applications

res, etc. To vary the speed, it is customary either to modify
the number of revolutions of the engine, either to use variable speeds by means of gears, pulleys or in some other way
known.
According to the invention, the variation of the speed is obtained
using one or more bevel drive wheels whose
inclined face is in contact with the rail and which are arranged
so that the distance between the axis of these wheels and
the rail is adjustable.,
When using two conical drive wheels "whose

is, so to speak, wedged between these two inclined faces; we
obtains a very simple embodiment by making '
-that the spacing of these wheels is adjustable. In this way, the distance between the axis of the wheels and the rail is adjusted.

The device according to the invention is suitable, for example, for driving, at various speeds, a drum, used for mixing, various substances and comprising,
<EMI ID = 6.1> the bevel drive wheels are stationary. Another application of the device according to the invention is the driving of conveyor belts as used in very large series production. In general, the device is used in those fields of the art which do not require very large quantities. speed variations These variations are in fact limited by the distance between the axis of the driving wheels and the rail, that is to say by the radius of the circle along which the drive takes place. for practical reasons, very large diameter driving wheels cannot be used so that the transmission ratio is limited.
In the drive device according to the invention, there is hardly any essential difference between the case in which the motor and the driving wheels are stationary while the rail is movable and integral with the device to be driven and that in in which the rail is stationary while the motor and the drive wheels are attached to the device to be driven. The choice between these two possibilities is guided only by practical considerations and depends on the form of construction of the device to be driven.
The drive device according to the invention is particularly suitable for welding installations, in particular arc welding installations. In this case, the assembly of the motor and the driving wheels is preferably fixed to the welding device which, in this way, can move, at variable speed, along the stationary rail or rails. It is therefore good to provide between the motor and the welding device, an articulation such that, to vary the distance between the axis of the driving wheels and the rail, it is sufficient to modify the position

welding lation.
The description of the appended drawing, given by way of non-limiting example, will make it clear how the invention can be carried out, the features which emerge both from the text and from the drawing, of course, forming part of said invention.
In fig. 1, a stationary rail 1 is in contact with
<EMI ID = 8.1>
another by an electric motor and idle mounted on a shaft 3. This shaft has two threaded parts 4 '; the thread of one of these parts comprises a step to the left, that of the other, a step to the right. The shaft 3 can turn in the plates 5, which act as bearings. At one of its ends, the shaft has a head 6 of square section. Between the inclined faces of the wheels 2 is stuck the head of the rail 1. The wheels 2 are held in place by two threaded nozzles 7, the thread of which meshes with that of the threaded parts of the shaft 3. The nozzles 7 have fingers guide 8; these fingers pass through the plates 5, which act as bearings. Just spin the shaft
using a crank fixed to the square head 6, to modify the spacing of the nozzles 7. Depending on the direction of rotation, this spacing is increased or reduced. The modification of the spacing of the nozzles 7 causes that of the bevel wheels 2 and starting from the distance between the shaft of these wheels and the rail. The engine speed being kept constant, the radius of the tangency circle to the rail and hence the transmission ratio is modified. We therefore regulate the speed.
It goes without saying that the modification of the spacing of the two bevel wheels can be obtained in other ways.
<EMI ID = 9.1>
Figs. ' 2 and 3 show schematically an assembly of the motor as well as the drive of the bevel wheels 2. The motor, indicated by 9, comprises an endless screw 10 and a mating toothed wheel 11. The shaft of the toothed wheel 11 also carries wheels 12, which come into contact with the driving wheels 2 and which drive the latter.
The entire device is connected, for example by means of the rod 13, to a welding device so that this device moves automatically along the part to be welded or on the latter. The drive device constituted by the motor, the worm, and the driving wheels 2 is connected to the welding device by means of a joint so that, when using another speed, only this device rises or falls relative to the rail.
