The cyclic carbonates according to the invention are especially useful for the higher polymers of acrylic nitrile or for mixed polymerization products which contain acrylic nitrile because only very limited amounts of solvents are available for these materials. However, it can also be used with advantage for the shaping or plasticization of other higher polymers, for example cellulose esters and ethers or mixtures of various higher polymers optionally with the simultaneous use of other plasticizers, of resins or landfills.
