In the preparation of synthetic resins, use is made of polymerized drying oils or their fatty acids which have been deprived of their unpolymerizable constitutents by distillation. According to the examples: (1) colophony is esterified with the purified polymerized fatty acids and with glycerol; the same fatty acids may be esterified with phthalic anhydride and glycerol; in each case the product may be dissolved to a lacquer; (2) esters of the purified polymerized fatty acids are converted into resins together with vinyl compounds, such as vinyl acetate or chloride.
