Abstract
367,658. Compound glass. I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE AKT.-GES., Frankfort-on-Main, Germany. May 21, 1931, No. 15043. Convention date, May 21, 1930. Addition to 349,283. [Class 140.] Splinterless glass is made by interposing between sheets of glass layers of a mixture of a polymerization product of a compound containing the group CH2 = C#, for example polyvinyl esters such as polyvinyl acetate, polystyrene, and polyacrylic acid ester and a condensation product of maleic acid or its anhydride with unsaturated alcohols or their derivatives such as castor oil or with compounds for example polyhydric alcohols such as 1 : 3 butylene glycol, which yield unsaturated alcohols by splitting off water. Softening agents such as tributyl phosphate or aliphatic esters of phthalic acid may be added. The glass sheets are coated with a thin layer of the mixture in a soft or molten state or in solution in solvent such as acetone, alcohol, and benzene, superposed and hot pressed.
