Abstract

The frictional properties of crepe rubber are improved by mixing short lengths, e.g. 1 to 4 mms., of fibres of e.g. nylon, cellulose esters and ethyl cellulose or condensation products such as polyesters, polyanhydrides, and mixed ester polyanhydrides, with the raw rubber. The fibres may be first mixed with raw rubber, and a bonding agent which may be polyisobutylene or polyvinyl resin, and then sheeted. This mixture is then mixed with the raw rubber to give from 25 to 30 per cent by weight of fibre to the rubber.
