<EMI ID=3.1>
<EMI ID=4.1>
<EMI ID=5.1>

profiled shapes obtained from these masses "
The present invention relates to a method of manufacturing
of artificial masses or of yarns, fibers, films, tapes, hoses and similar shaped products capable of being produced from these masses. Preferably, it is here
masses whose molecules have a structure in
chain and bridges of amides or esters. The present process thus leads to a whole new class of materials, which are suitable both for the manufacture of these masses and for that
profiled products obtained therefrom by the injection casting process, but in particular also from
the manufacture of threads and fibers by spinning.

For the manufacture of artificial masses having particularly interesting properties, one uses today ^^ especially also for theoretical reasons, substances of which
the molecular structure presents a filiform macromolecule or
this/
in chain. Macromolecules of the genus are obtained by poly.condensations, by etherification of dicarboxylic acids by means of glycols, by removal of water from dicarboxylic acids, by formation of polyamides from aminocarboxylic acids or from diamines and d ' dicarboxylic acids. Among these methods of manufacture, only, until now, the condensations mentioned last, of which the condensation products, that is to say the polyamides find use, have acquired industrial importance. These products exhibit outstanding mechanical properties and a sufficiently high melting point; their chemical stability is good.
To manufacture these polyamide masses, one proceeds by heating equivalent amounts of the diamine and of a dicarboxylic acid or else of an aminocarboxylic acid until the mass becomes stringy or has sufficient viscosity. The melts thus obtained are then shaped according to the injection casting process or they are spun in the form of threads or cast and rolled in the form of films.
It has been found - and this forms the object of the present invention - that it is also possible to manufacture masses and profiled products having quite similar properties by an entirely different and novel route.
For carrying out the new process, a condensation product is first prepared from an amine or a glycol, of the type usually employed for syntheses of this kind, and a non-equivalent quantity of an acid. , dicarboxylic. The amount of the dicarboxylic acid is chosen so low that there are still sufficient free amino or hydroxyl groups available for carrying out a subsequent reaction. Therefore, according to the invention, it is not possible to use so much dicarboxylic acid that already with the diamine or glycol only high molecular weight polycondensates can be formed. The amount of dicarboxylic acid can vary within wide limits, but must however always remain less than the equimolecular amount with respect to the diamine or to the glycol. It was found that the quantity
<EMI ID = 2.1>
molecular; the minimum quantity is equal to or close to zero, that is to say that it is also possible to obtain masses which can still be used from an amine or a glycol alone, without any addition of dicarboxylic acid .
The subsequent treatment of the aforesaid masses, which contains
<EMI ID = 3.1>
takes place in accordance with the invention in the form of an addition of the amount of a disevenol, or instead of a corresponding (equal) amount of the disulfocyanate (dirhodanate) reacting in the same way, which corresponds to the groups amino or hydroxylic still free.
These compounds can be added either as they are, therefore optionally in the finely pulverized state, the reaction being completed by heating the melts, or they can also be added to the melt or to a solution, optionally also dissolved in a mixture. solvent.
We proceed in the manner most consistent with the intended purpose,
by adding a precondensate prepared from glycol or
<EMI ID = 4.1>
of dicarboxylic acid, about the same amount of disevenol or disulfocyanate, as the less dicarboxylic acid, calculated on the diamine, had first been used. A violent reaction already takes place at cold or at moderately high temperature, which can finally be supplemented by a short subsequent heating.
The masses thus obtained are fusible and can be deformed well, that is to say put into the desired form. The precondensates obtained from diamines and glycols without addition of dicarboxylic acid give, by this process, masses which are a little less usable, but are well suited, despite this, still for many uses.
The products obtained according to the new process, which,
d
when famines are used as a raw material, contain thiourea groups, but which, when glycols are used are probably urethane derivatives, do not yield in any way to artificial materials of this known kind; in some respects they even exceed their properties. Thus, for example, the breaking length is most often greater than
to that of a comparable fiber obtained by the old process. The absorption capacity with regard to water is greater,
which above all constitutes an advantage for the fibers obtained from diamines compared to known polyamide fibers.
The new process can also be carried out by reacting the diamines or glycols with a non-equivalent quantity of disevenols or disulfocyanates and only then passing to condensation with dicarboxylic acids.
The disevenols and disulfocyanates are chosen especially in the aliphatic series or in the cycloaliphatic or arylaliphatic series or else in the heterocyclic series. The following is a list of a series of such compounds which have been shown to be used with success: hexamethylene disevenol, ethylene disulfocyanate, trimethylene disulfocyanate, pentamethylene disevenol, xylylene sevenol and xylylene sulfocyanate , cyclohexyl disulfocyanate, and / 3, / 3-diethyl ether sevenol.
The new process will be explained in the following examples, without it being intended by this to be a limitation to this.
which is revealed here:
EXAMPLES:
1) 1 gram molecule of hexamethylene diamine is reacted in benzene or pyridine with one gram molecule of sebacic acid chloride. Exhaust the reaction product
<EMI ID = 5.1>
After removing the hydrochloric acid which has formed during the reaction, the reaction product is separated by filtration and the organic solvent is separated in the filter from the aqueous portion. The solvent is then expelled and the residue thus obtained is added to the residue of the filter. The excess diamine is then removed by distillation and the amount of free amino groups contained in the residue is determined by titration. In accordance with the amount found, hexamethylenic disevc nol obtained from dichloride is added by reaction with a sulfocyanate, and the mixture is stirred well. The reaction is soon made noticeable, preferably after short heating, by heat toning. Finally, a short time is still heated until melting, and after some time strings can be drawn from the surface of the melt.
We can now give the desired shape to it.
2) We melt 2 gram-molecules of hexamethylenediamine with 1 1/2 gram-molecule of adipic acid in an auto-

two more hours at this temperature in a stream of indifferent gas. The product thus obtained gives, after cooling, a crystalline impression; it turns out to be unsuitable for the manufacture of artificial masses. By analyzing a test portion, the amount of free amino groups is then determined, which can be done, for example, by treating the test portion for several hours hot with
of titrated sulfuric acid and then renaming the unused sulfuric acid. A quantity of octamethylenic disevenol equivalent to the still free amino groups is added to the precondensate. There is a significant heating, which can be supplemented by additional heating. The product thus obtained is very suitable for the manufacture of yarns, fibers, tapes and films.
3) First usefully heated in the autoclave 1 moleculegramme of sebacic acid with 1 molecule-gram of hexamethylenic glycol for 4 hours at 220 [deg.] - 240 [deg.]. Then the mass is treated for 3 hours in a vacuum at 200 [deg.], During this time glycol is removed by distillation. This quantity removed by distillation is weighed. Then a mixture of hexamethylene diisocyanate and hexamethylene disevenol (50:50) is added in an amount corresponding to the amount

complementary. The mass thus obtained has a relatively low melting point, which moreover varies between certain limits with the pretreatment.
4) The pre-product or pre-product of Example 1 is reacted with the amount of tetramethylene disulfocyanate corresponding to the free amine, while heating. The pro-

5) First, as indicated in Examples 1 and 2, a precondensate is prepared from diamine and less than the corresponding amount of dicarboxylic acid. This product is dissolved, after determining the amount of free amino groups, in phenol or cresol, after which the corresponding amount of disevenol hexamethyleni-

eminently suitable for being spun in the form of threads.
