<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Desoriptive memory in support of the patent application for; "SHOCK ABSORBER FOR PNEUMATIC BREAKING HAMMER
OR ANALOGUE ".
The present patent relates to a shock absorber for a pneumatic jackhammer or the like intended to attenuate the effect of the shock during empty operation.
We know that during the idling of such a hammer, that is to say when the end of the tool shank no longer bears against the ground for example a layer of carbon, the impact of the piston has for effect of throwing the tool towards the front but that it is stopped in this stroke when its oollerette or shoulder comes up against the bottom of the retaining manohon thus producing a more or less violent shock on it.
To reduce the effect of this shock, a series of wavy elastic washers is placed in the bottom of the retaining manohon, of which the front one is supported if necessary on a ron-

delle or rigid ring while towards the rear another washer or ring is placed above the stacked elastic washers and is intended to receive the shock given from the collar of the tool in idling.
To maintain this set of washers, a split and elastic nozzle is introduced into the sleeve and by its elasticity due to its slot, is pressed against the inner cylindrical wall of the sleeve, thus preventing, when unscrewing the sleeve (for example to replace the tool), the spring washers and the rigid washers placed at the ends of their stack to escape and thus risk getting lost.
In order to bring out the above description more clearly, the accompanying drawings represent. by way of explanation and without limitation, one embodiment of the subject of the invention.
For this purpose, FIG. I, shows an elevational section through the end of a jackhammer fitted with the proposed damper.
Fig.2, an elevational view of the split nozzle intended to be introduced and pressed onto the inner cylindrical face of the retaining manohon.
Fig. 3, a cross section in elevation in one of the elastic wave washers.
Fig. 4, a plan view of an elastic wavy washer.
Referring to freezes. above,; shows the jackhammer cylinder, 2 its retaining sleeve and 3 its piston. The tool is represented by 4 and at 5 its collar is shown. The elastic split nozzle pressed on the inner cylindrical face of the manohon 2 is represented by 6 and the faces of its slot or cut by 10 and 11 see fig. 2.
This split nozzle 6 is in contact via its lower annular edge with the upper annular face of the rigid washer 7, the lower face of which is in contact with the tops of the corrugations 12 of the first elastic washer.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
with corrugations 8. (see fig. 3 and 4), the last of which in the stack rests on the rigid washer 9 housed in the bottom of the retaining manohon 2.
It is easily understood that when the shank of the tool is thrown forward and that if the tip of the latter is not in contact with the ground, that the annular face 13 of the collar or shoulder 5 strikes on the upper face 14 of the upper rigid washer 7 and thus the damping device consisting of the stacking of elastic washers 8 with corrugations 12, comes into play to absorb the shock,
The number and section of spring washers such as 8 may vary as appropriate with regard to the intended purpose. These washers 8 may even if desired in order to increase their elasticity be split in the diametral direction.
CLAIMS
I) Choss damper for pneumatic jackhammer or the like, characterized in that in the inner chamber of the retaining sleeve is arranged a first rigid washer on which is placed a stack of spring washers with corrugations, split? or not, on this stack a second rigid washer and in that the above assembly is retained in the chamber of the sleeve by an elastic split nozzle held by pressure on the inner periphery of the chamber of the sleeve by virtue of its elasticity.
