BREVET D'IMPORTATION
<EMI ID=1.1>
On a proposé
<EMI ID=2.1>
<EMI ID=3.1>

IMPORT PATENT
Devices have already been proposed on various occasions
with grapples, for vehicle wheels fitted with rubber tires
rubber, in which the grapples are placed, from
on one side of the wheel, above the tire and can
1
be brought back against the body of the wheel when these devices
are not in use - Their construction was very varied and
most often quite complicated. In general, the individual grapples were arranged so that they could pivot about an axis, parallel to the plane of the wheel and fixed at the height of the edge of the rim, so that they could be brought, by pivoting around this axis, from the rest position to
the operating position. The grabs were put out of action in the opposite direction, that is to say by pivoting in the direction of the wheel hub. In all the known devices, this resulted in the need to give the actual grapples sufficiently small dimensions to take account of the space available when, in the position of
rest, they gathered around the hub. However, grabs of such small dimensions only guarantee insufficient protection against skidding, because they cover, in the direction of the periphery of the wheel, only a small part of the tread running surface. This disadvantage of
grapples
<EMI ID = 1.1>
increase in the height of the grapple clamps due to
of its impact on the vehicle and on the road. The angular shape of the grapples which necessarily resulted from the fact of a single pivot axis - the branch of the grapples which is applied to the running surface having a length corresponding to the width of the tire - imposes, in the rest position, a certain distance to the body of the wheel, which presents drawbacks for traffic. It has also already proposed devices provided with resilient members, such as flexible cables, link chains and other similar members adapted to the side of the wheel. These components only come under the tire in the event of a lateral skidding of the wheel, to thus come into action. We proposed
<EMI ID = 2.1>
pivot or fold down and which, when pivoted inward and outward to bring them to the operating or resting position respectively,
pivot around two axes, perpendicular to each other and not arranged in the same plane, the grapples in the case where they pivot inwards, that is to say towards the rest position, in front be raised in the direction of one of the axes, despite the force of an opposing spring, then caused to pivot around this axis * and finally having to be folded around a second axis arranged perpendicular to the first. In addition, there are devices whose individual grapples are formed by studs, each of which is brought into the operating position by means of hinges,
<EMI ID = 3.1>
At least re must be removable to return the crampons to the rest position. This construction is only suitable for solid rubber wheels; it is not suitable for wheels with pneumatic tires, because for the latter there occurs, when the wheel is loaded, such a great deformation of the part of the wheel which is precisely in contact with the ground, and consequently a displacement of the crampon in the radial direction, which results from it that the closure provided, by means of three pivots, opens again under the effect of a force corresponding to the radial load of the wheel, because the one of the pivots is moved away from the periphery. The conditions here are even more unfavorable when, in addition, a couple
must be transmitted, so that only then
spikes their real purpose.
All these drawbacks and many other drawbacks of the known devices are eliminated by virtue of the grapple device which is the subject of the present invention and in which the individual grapples are pivotally connected to the body of the wheel by short connecting rods, with two bolts in the
f
plane of the wheel, so that, when the grapples are not in use, they are on the outside, in front of the connecting rods folded inwards, and cover these connecting rods. The grapples and the connecting rods are here shaped so that
the grapple cannot separate from the profile of the rubber tire. This particular construction, comprising the arrangement of two articulations with pivot axes parallel to the plane of the wheel, makes it possible to bring the grapple device from the operating position to the rest position, by simultaneous rotation around the two pivots. ie by bending, inward or by folding.
But the grabs, thus brought to the rest position, are not distributed in 1 ', restricted space around the hub of the wheel and, for the rest position, there is a much larger space which is not limited. outwards only through the periphery of the bandage. This makes it possible to give to the grapples in all lesons, but mainly in the direction of the width, dimensions such as, in the position
operation, the periphery of the tire can be covered up to two-thirds. Grapples of this width ensure safety against skidding on all terrain usable by vehicles, without having to give the ribs or studs a height that would harm the vehicle and the road. Thanks to the possibility of folding, the grapple device, in the rest position, lies flat along the body of the wheel, without any part constituting an obstacle.
The possibility that the grapple and its arm have to rotate simultaneously around the two pivot axes also allows the grapple to be mounted in the working position, even when, between the periphery of the tire and the mudguard for example, it does not. There is no more space than necessary for the free passage of the grapple when the wheel is turning.
Finally, thanks to the arrangement with two pivot axes, the grapple can give way both radially and radially.
in the axial direction, towards the tire.
