<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

ANTI-SLIP DEVICE FOR AUTOMOBILES TO BE MOUNTED ON THE WHEELS OF VEHICLES OF ALL WEIGHTS, WHEN THE ROADS ARE COVERED WITH ICE
AND ICE.
The present invention relates to an anti-skid device which can be moved quickly on the wheels and which satisfies the requirements of safety when driving on roads covered with ice, ice or snow, vehicles fitted with this device. .
This device consists in particular of projecting elements, intended to be mounted on the tire tread surface. To this end, the aforementioned protruding elements consist of at least two metal pegs, fixed to a flexible steel strip forming a frame and having attachment means for its mounting on a wheel fitted with a tire, the surface of the metal parts coming into contact with the ground have sharp edges of the aforementioned metal plugs and will preferably be of hardened steel.
According to a particularly advantageous embodiment of the device according to the invention, the outline of these metal parts has a triangular shape.
Other details and features of the invention will emerge from the description of an anti-skid device for: tire, given below by way of non-limiting example with reference to the accompanying drawing.
FIG. 1 represents a perspective view in cross section of a tire mounted on the wheel and provided with a device according to the invention.
Figure, 2 is a cross section of one of the flexible steel tapes with protective tape, triangular head plugs and tie hooks, ready for mounting.
In the various figures, the same reference signs designate identical elements.
The anti-slip device according to the invention comprises projecting elements formed by bolts I fig. 2) whose triangular shaped heads are attached to a flexible steel tape, described below.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The heads 6 of the bolts I are made of special hardened steel and have sharp edges formed by the triangular contours thereof. In addition, the surface of these heads intended to come into contact with the road are milled and have grooves 7, further increasing the number of cutting edges of the heads 6, and creating parts in relief which, by being lodged in the ice or sleet produce the anti-skid action under the effect of the speed and weight of the vehicle.
The aforementioned frame, carrying the aforementioned pegs, consists of a strip 2 of flexible tape steel, the ends of which are folded up after having passed through the opening made in the hook 3 and held by the bolts I fig. 2.
These completed frames (as in fig. 2) are independent of each other and can be mounted separately on a wheel fitted with a tire, after deflating the latter.
The number of bands to be mounted on a wheel fitted with a tire varies according to the size of the latter.
The rim of the wheel (5 fig. 1) has a rim 4 which can either be obtained by stamping during the construction of the wheel, or be added and fixed by a few points of electrical or autogenous welding, or even be a simple free ring bending perfectly and automatically - matically when the tire is re-inflated. - The simplest solution is the fixed rim provided for the construction of the wheel as indicated in 4 fig, 1), but free and independent rims of the wheel are also satisfactory.
In the edges 4 fig. I) whether they are fixed or free, there will preferably be notches intended to accommodate the hooks 3, thereby automatically adjusting the equal distance which must exist between the bands.
The bands or frame 2 fig. I), are arranged so that their longitudinal axis is in a diametral plane of the wheel. In addition the bolts making contact with lesol, are distributed so that their axes are in two parallel planes normal to the axis of the wheel.
The bolts I are fixed to the frame by means of nuts 8 and with the interposition of a steel washer 12, but riveting or welding could be provided, thus eliminating the screw thread and the nut.
When fixing the bolts I, the grooves of these bolts will preferably be arranged in the direction of the axis of the wheel, but given their triangular shape, the non-slip efficiency will not be reduced if they are arranged. other.
The hooks 3 fig. 2) carry to the upper part of the slot a round metal part attached and crimped by pressure, this part avoids any danger of breaking the steel tape, where the traction takes its fulcrum. This rounded face of the hook can also be obtained by making a cut in it and by turning the lip thus obtained.
The protective strips 10, interposed between the steel strip and the tire, prevent any deterioration thereof. These protective bands can be made of rubber, felt, an alloy of several materials, and whatever may be suitable for this purpose. They are fixed to the steel tape 2), by hollow rivets 13 fig. 2).
The silent operation of the device is obtained by the protective strip placed on the internal face of the steel strip rotating in the slot of the hook 3 fig. 2) and held by the same rivet 13 freezes 2) avoiding contact with metals, and, by a rubber washer II fig. 2) placed below the steel washer 12.
After the foregoing it will be easy to understand how quickly and easily these non-slip strips can be mounted on the wheels of a car, if necessary, by stapling them separately using their hooks,
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
on the edges of the wheel rim, they are automatically locked when re-inflating the tire. Thus equipped, a vehicle can even afford high speeds on roads covered with ice, without running the risk of skidding. .
It should be understood that the invention is in no way limited to the embodiment described above and that many modifications can be made to it without departing from the scope of the present improvement patent application.
Provision could in particular be made with regard to the pegs coming into contact with the ground, all other shapes other than triangular,
